As I slowly opened my eyes, I found myself surrounded by deep darkness. The clock on the wall had its hour and minute hands frozen at 3:30 AM. My shadow on the floor twisted and turned, as if it were about to break free from me at any moment. That feeling was truly unsettling.
Then, I heard a sound like a heavy sigh coming from those shadows. I sat there on the bed, my back soaked with cold sweat, feeling sticky and uncomfortable. I kept telling myself, "This can't be real, this can't be real. It's just a nightmare."
So, I walked to the window to see what had changed in the outside world. The stars had vanished, and an indescribable darkness covered the night sky; the entire city was so quiet that it filled me with fear.
Suddenly, a rapid knocking on the door jolted me from my thoughts. "Open the door quickly!" "If you don't hurry, it will really be too late!" It was the voice of the Old Hunter.
"The Shadow Weaver has already begun to act; we need to take action fast." I had no time to think and could only follow the Old Hunter's lead as we hurried downstairs.
The streets were silent; there were no cars or bustling crowds, and the streetlights swayed uncertainly in the wind. The Old Hunter seemed very familiar with the Shadow Weaver; he led me through narrow alleys, turning left and right.
"We're here!" He suddenly stopped, took a few deep breaths, then turned back to ask me, "Young man, are you ready?" "Inside are all kinds of monsters; are you sure you can face them bravely?"
I took a deep breath, trying to keep myself calm.
"I am mentally prepared."
"No matter what is inside, I am willing to face it bravely."
The Old Hunter led me to the front of an abandoned factory.
"That guy is inside."
"Be careful; don't look into his eyes. Even if you see something, don't trust it easily."
I nodded and gently pushed open the heavy iron door.
"Creeeak—"
The interior of the factory was dimly lit, with only a few faint beams of light streaming through the dilapidated windows.
I gathered my strength and cautiously moved forward step by step, always on guard for any potential danger.
Suddenly, a bone-chilling gust of wind howled past me.
An unimaginable force surged toward me, and when I turned around, I was shocked to see my shadow struggling and writhing on the wall.
No, I realized now that it wasn't my shadow at all!
Its strength grew stronger, and I felt as if I could no longer resist it.
At that moment, the Old Hunter's voice suddenly echoed in my ears.
"Get out of the way!"
"Bang!"
I felt as if I had crashed into a wall and quickly slid aside, just in time to see a dark figure zip past me.
I immediately drew my dagger and hurled it at the shadow with all my might.
"Whoosh!"
The dagger sliced through the air, and the shadow let out a piercing scream as if it were alive before crashing heavily to the ground.
Upon closer inspection, I realized it was my shadow; it had betrayed me and launched an attack against me.
How could this be possible?
My shadow, how could it attack me? Before I could gather my thoughts, the Old Hunter had already dashed out quickly. His movements were so swift that in the blink of an eye, he was in front of the shadow, raising the thick branch in his hand and striking down fiercely.
"Smack!"
With a dull thud, the shadow was instantly shattered into pieces, transforming into wisps of black smoke that vanished without a trace. The Old Hunter's eyes showed no hesitation; they were decisive and ruthless, completely different from the person he used to be.
