The guards in City of Forgotten were indeed dressed in ancient costumes that seemed to transcend time, their eyes revealing a mysterious magical power. When they suddenly appeared before us, the three of us felt an overwhelming pressure.
The guards wore ancient armor, and their gazes exuded a sense of enigmatic magical strength.
"You shouldn't be here," one of the guards stepped forward to speak, his voice booming like thunder, echoing clearly down the street.
I quickly swallowed hard, hoping to engage them in conversation to ease the tension. "We really mean no harm; we just want to uncover the secrets of City of Forgotten."
But the guards were not swayed at all. They advanced towards us with firm and powerful strides, their weapons gleaming with a cold light.
"You really shouldn't be here."
"You really shouldn't be here."
"You truly..."
They repeated this over and over, as if we had committed some unforgivable act.
The three of us had no choice but to stand back-to-back, forming a small defensive formation.
Old Li whispered, "These guys look formidable; we can't let our guard down."
Xiao Jie nodded in agreement, his expression turning very serious. "We can only fight with all our might if we want to survive."
I gripped my weapon tightly. "Then let's go all out; we can't die here."
Just then, Old Li suddenly pointed at the wall behind the guards and shouted, "Look over there!"
Following Old Li's finger, we noticed that the wall was covered with various patterns and symbols, resembling a puzzle.
"Those symbols..." I squinted to take a closer look. "I feel like I've seen them somewhere before!"
Could this be the key to unlocking the secrets of City of Forgotten?
"We need to solve that puzzle quickly!" I whispered, "This might be our only chance to escape from these guards."
Old Li nodded.
"Now the question is, who will solve the puzzle?"
I looked around, my gaze finally landing on the guards.
"I'll hold them off; you guys focus on solving the puzzle."
"No way, that's too risky!" Old Li immediately rejected my suggestion.
But I had already made up my mind.
"I have no choice; I need to buy you some time."
I picked up a stone and threw it hard towards the guards.
The guards were drawn to the stone and immediately charged towards us.
I gritted my teeth and followed them into the fray.
I planned to use my body as a shield to buy more time for Old Li and Xiao Jie.
I had never felt this nervous or scared before.
But I absolutely could not back down.
I couldn't let these guards hurt my friends, nor could I allow them to stop us from uncovering the secrets of this city.
I engaged in a thrilling battle with the guards.
Their magical powers were strong and mysterious, and each attack put immense pressure on me.
Though I had almost no way to retreat, I still fought back with everything I had.
Just then, Old Li's voice reached my ears.
"We've solved it!"
I looked up and saw symbols on the wall beginning to glow, gradually forming a portal of light.
The guards stopped their assault, surprise etched on their faces.
"Come over here!" Old Li and Xiao Jie stood in front of the portal, reaching out their hands to me.
I used my last breath to rush towards the light gate. The guards finally understood our intentions and launched another attack. But this time, they were too late. I successfully passed through the light gate and escaped that terrifying place with Old Li and Xiao Jie.
