I felt my heart racing and instinctively tightened my grip on Old Li's arm.
Old Li's face was ashen, his gaze fixed intently on the crystal atop the altar. At that moment, the atmosphere in the ancient tomb became exceptionally tense.
"We're about to start this ritual," I said. Looking at Old Li, his expression was serious, and his eyes shone with determination. Then I glanced at Molly; her eyes were filled with confidence, tinged with a hint of cunning.
I took a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves. "We need to be careful. If anything seems off, we stop immediately."
Old Li nodded. "I'll be ready for any emergencies."
Molly shot us a glance and then scoffed. "You two are such cowards."
She walked over to the edge of the altar and began arranging the sacrificial items. Her movements were quick and practiced, clearly indicating that this wasn't her first time doing something like this.
Old Li and I stood by cautiously, keeping an eye on our surroundings and ready to respond to any potential danger.
Once the last offering was placed, the atmosphere in the tomb shifted dramatically. The air felt as if it had frozen, creating an oppressive sensation.
Molly stood in the center of the formation and began chanting a spell. Her voice was low yet powerful, resonating in every corner of the chamber.
I felt a chill rising from beneath my feet, as if something was slowly awakening from its slumber. Old Li gripped his staff tightly, his eyes locked on the altar.
I held my breath, fully focused on observing any movement from the altar. The crystal began to emit a faint glow; as the incantation grew louder, the light intensified. I sensed an invisible force flowing through the air, and it felt as though the entire formation had come to life.
As the light of the magic circle began to flicker erratically, the ancient tomb started to tremble. Molly's expression suddenly turned grim, and her voice became sharp. "This is bad; the power is too great for us to control!"
I felt a chill in my heart and quickly looked at the flickering light of the magic circle. The entire tomb was shaking, feeling as if it could collapse at any moment. "Old Li, hurry up and interrupt her!" I shouted, then ran towards the altar. We had to stop this immediately; otherwise, the consequences would be unimaginable.
Old Li and I exerted all our strength to try to break Molly's incantation. But just then, a tremendous force erupted from the center of the magic circle. This force sent us all flying away. I felt dizzy, and all I could see was a door slowly opening before me. Behind that door was endless darkness.
I exchanged glances with Old Li; we were both filled with mixed emotions. We had indeed come this far! Behind that mysterious door lay the legendary City of Forgotten. However, none of us knew what exactly was hidden behind it. It could be a safe place or an even more terrifying trap. But now we had no choice.
"Are we all ready?" I turned back to Old Li. "No matter what happens, we have to face it head-on." Old Li nodded, his eyes filled with determination. Molly looked a bit nervous, but after a moment, she wore that confident smile again. "We can definitely handle this."
She was right; we were mentally prepared. No matter what we encountered next, the three of us would face it together.
