In a moment of daze, Li Rui had already left the Sect. Looking at the mountains and water before him, Li Rui knew he must have arrived at the Multiverse.
The trees on the mountain were very lush. Li Rui chose to settle in a town at the foot of the mountain. He originally planned to rest well in the town, have a couple of drinks, and enjoy some snacks, then slowly plan for the many things ahead. However, he did not expect that from the moment he stepped into the town, he was already being watched.
This place felt very eerie, Li Rui thought to himself. Normally, such a mountain town would not be bustling with activity, but there should be some people coming and going. Backed by such abundant natural resources, local markets would be inevitable. However, after scanning the area, Li Rui found only a few distracted individuals crossing the street; there were no other signs of life.
"How strange!"
Li Rui felt increasingly puzzled. Just as he was observing a nearby tavern, he suddenly felt a chill behind him. His heart tightened, and an involuntary shiver ran down his spine. Relying on instinct and years of developed habits, Li Rui slightly ducked his head back. When he turned around to look, he realized he had narrowly avoided a deadly ambush.
"What audacity!"
Li Rui was furious. The person who had attempted to ambush him was wearing a blue robe and hat, looking ordinary at first glance. However, having failed in his attack, anger was now evident on his face. Li Rui knew he must be burning with rage and would likely attempt another strike. With a slight smile, Li Rui could tell that this person was weak enough to be subdued easily; however, he changed his mind.
This town was so strange that it surely had some connection to this individual. If he could extract some information from him, it would save Li Rui a lot of trouble. Adopting the mindset that it’s better to avoid unnecessary trouble, Li Rui felt compelled to investigate further; yet for some reason, he sensed that if he did not pursue this matter, it might lead to significant regret.
This kind of ominous premonition was deadly because every strong individual is born from countless fortuitous encounters and extraordinary courage. Where does this courage come from? It comes from seizing every possible opportunity.
The man's eyes suddenly turned blood-red without warning. As he waved his hands, Li Rui could vaguely see dark waves emanating from him; this disturbance made his heart skip a beat as if recalling something.
Never mind! Li Rui steeled himself and grabbed the man’s arm, forcing it down onto the ground in a half-kneeling position. "Haha! You fell for it!"
Unexpectedly, instead of showing any panic, the man revealed an unusually fierce expression. This is bad! Li Rui's sense of crisis intensified; however, it was too late. With a swift push from Li Rui's hand filled with spiritual energy, the man was sent flying several yards away. But in an instant of distraction, the man began to laugh maniacally right before Li Rui's eyes and suddenly exploded with a loud bang. A large cloud of black smoke rapidly spread outwards. Caught off guard, Li Rui inhaled several mouthfuls of smoke; as soon as it entered his mouth, he felt parched and began to cough violently. He raised his hand to block it and felt something strange; looking back at his hand revealed it was covered in blood!
Unexpectedly, this guy was so ruthless. This suicidal attack had brought too much trouble to Li Rui. He felt an unbearable agitation in his heart, as if his entire spiritual power was about to boil over. His eyes turned red, and with a thud, Li Rui could no longer hold back and collapsed to the ground.
"Ah!" Li Rui continuously let out low growls. He temporarily suppressed the boiling sensation of his spiritual power, but he knew that if this continued, he would likely lose a significant portion of his strength, which Li Rui could not tolerate. However, the more he thought about it, the more he tried to suppress the turmoil with his energy. Yet, the reality was often worse; the rebellion of his spiritual power resisted even more violently under Li Rui's forced suppression. A surge of counterflow erupted, and Li Rui's vision darkened as he fainted instantly. In the moment Li Rui lost consciousness, without an outlet for its rampage, the violent nature of his spiritual power began to manifest in a surging explosion. For a time, spiritual light surged, but Li Rui, in his unconscious state, remained oblivious to everything.
"What a strange and interesting fellow," chuckled an old man who quietly observed everything from a high building at the scene. Seeing Li Rui succumb to the encroachment of black mist and fainting only drew more attention as his body erupted with even stronger spiritual light.
Chen Wang thought for a moment and took out a green pill from his pocket, which flew through the air and landed perfectly in Li Rui's mouth.
"Go, bring those people up from below."
A figure emerged from the shadows. "What if those people obstruct us?"
"Then they're foolish," Chen Wang replied in a calm tone.
"Understood."
When Li Rui finally woke up, he found himself lying on a bed in an attic. He struggled to sit up and looked around the room but found no one else there. Instead, he noticed two items on the table. Curiously, he picked them up and discovered that one was a demon-style token. Instantly, Li Rui recognized its origin, and his eyes blazed with fury.
"Howl! I, Li Rui, vow to eradicate you!"
There was another token that Li Rui knew granted him access to their Dan Hall. With this thought in mind, it made sense that someone of such mediocre strength would nearly cause his own death by exposing himself at such a critical moment.
Li Rui did not understand why these two things appeared here. After thinking for a long time, he decided to take a good rest and then go in with the token to take a look.
After stepping outside, it was noon. He looked up at the sky and stretched lazily. Li Rui could only squint his eyes as the sun was so bright that he couldn't open them. After some thought, he realized he had to go check the street. After all, the significant events that had occurred recently all took place on the street, and since he had gone there at night last time, he felt it was necessary to explore during the day this time to see if it was different from what he had seen at night. With many questions in mind, Li Rui walked towards the street.
Upon arriving, he noticed that the road was not as difficult to traverse as it had been during his previous visits. The path was smooth and unobstructed, with no abnormalities. The trees along the roadside were still neatly arranged, and the air was filled with the sounds of birds and the fragrance of flowers. It turned out that the back mountain wasn't as terrifying as it had seemed at night. Seeing such a beautiful scene lifted his spirits considerably and eased his fear of the back mountain.
Li Rui walked for quite a while without realizing how long this mountain path actually was. By this time, he was tired and sweating profusely, so he found a spot to sit down and rest.
