After obtaining the Yin Yang Grass, Li Rui and the others made their way out, originally planning to take a good rest. The previous battle had been too intense, and he longed to lie down in bed and relax for a while, taking a deep breath.
The weather in this valley was unpredictable; it was not only fluctuating between hot and cold but also began to snow.
"No way, it was just fine a moment ago. How is it snowing now?" Li Rui exclaimed, shivering. The Crazy Old Man was dressed very lightly, resembling a reincarnated frostbitten ghost as he clung to Li Rui's neck for warmth. Even in the deeper parts of this valley, it shouldn't be this cold. The surroundings were filled with an oppressive chill, and the heavy snowflakes danced in the air gracefully, as if showcasing their beautiful dance.
Before long, everything was covered in white snow, blanketing the ground in silence and beauty. However, beauty often conceals deadly dangers. A gust of icy wind whipped past, leaving marks on Li Rui's face, and his frozen hands and feet became stiff. The peaks on either side were capped with ice, while the snow on the ground was deep enough to bury their feet. Some creatures had already succumbed to the cold.
For someone of Li Rui's level, ordinary snow wouldn't usually feel cold at all, but this snow... was exceptionally frigid.
In this eerie valley, such conditions were not unusual; the deeper one went into the valley, the stranger and more dangerous it became. There had been those who reached the bottom of the valley; just above that lay the peak. They were only one step away from reaching the summit but were crushed by an unknown energy and could never be reborn. This further highlighted the perilous nature of the valley—an unparalleled realm of danger.
Li Rui complained, "Why is it getting colder? Are we even going to survive here? We can't stay for long." The chill clearly stemmed from some kind of energy rather than just atmospheric conditions. How could it be snowing in Great Xia? Li Rui felt an ominous premonition rising within him.
Winter seemed to be spreading; in the distance, there was a sudden collapse as an avalanche swept across the ground, accompanied by terrifying roars.
Li Rui understood that this was the Old Monster in the deep mountains unleashing its power. It must be incredibly strong to chill the earth and summon such heavy snowfall. Li Rui couldn't help but shiver.
At that moment, like a torrent, the avalanche rushed downwards, followed by a massive Ice Bear charging down with tremendous momentum.
"How is this possible? This is terrifying! An Ice Bear can turn the earth into winter and trigger an avalanche—how powerful must it be?" Li Rui screamed in shock.
The Ice Bear's assault was overwhelming; its furious roar combined with the force of the avalanche created a powerful gust that uprooted ancient trees hundreds of years old. These were giant trees with unmatched strength—how could they be taken down so easily? The creatures in their surroundings desperately ran for their lives, trying to escape from its terrifying claws.
Li Rui and his companions wasted no time fleeing; how could they possibly contend with such a beast?
The Crazy Old Man was scared half to death; in fact, half of it was due to the cold. He curled up in Li Rui's arms, too afraid to open his eyes. Li Rui, however, remained calm. He chose the most remote path, surrounded by large rocks and numerous trees, which could at least weaken the Ice Bear's assault. Without looking back, Li Rui silently felt fortunate that he wasn't blindly fleeing like other animals, but he couldn't guarantee his survival. In truth, he had long been prepared to be killed in an instant.
When Li Rui reached the southernmost point, thinking he had evaded the attack, he realized it was not the case. The monster behind the Ice Bear was the leopard he had encountered before in the valley!
"Hmph, if you have the guts, then don't run!" The leopard was filled with rage because at that moment, they had someone backing them up!
"What are you waiting for? Run!" The Crazy Old Man shouted angrily, pulling Li Rui along as they ran without looking back.
In the distance!
Li Rui was panting heavily. Fortunately, they had finally escaped. Looking around, there was a vast emptiness ahead; perhaps the Ice Bear's fury had subsided. He didn't know who had angered it, leading to this disaster. The entire valley was mostly covered in snow; the cold wind had died down, and sunlight shone brightly but offered no warmth. He still felt that the Ice Bear's presence lingered.
"Was it submerged hundreds of meters above?" Li Rui could only see clearly from the peak; otherwise, he would have been completely submerged like those hundred-meter-tall trees. At this moment, aside from his area, everywhere else was a mess. If it weren't for the massive rocks and numerous trees to the south, it would have looked just like that. Li Rui silently felt fortunate that he had chosen the right escape route.
The sky began to darken; it was still chilly and damp. The north wind howled, sweeping away dust and sand with reckless abandon. There was an ominous feeling in the air; time and space seemed to sense something.
Not yet! Time was flying by.
Almost there; he had a vague feeling they were just an hour away.
When time froze and space became solidified, it arrived—it had come.
A raging inferno blazed! Everything burned red in the midnight hour! What kind of beast tribe was this?
"What is going on!" Li Rui shouted, feeling as if he was surrounded by a raging fire, the flames roaring and occasional cries of despair echoing around him.
Just moments ago, he had been shivering from the cold, but now he was burning up. Li Rui couldn't make sense of the situation; it felt like his body was being cooked, steam rising all around him. Dudu beside him was panting like a dog, clearly suffering from the heat.
At the same time, countless fireballs rained down from above, the intense heat scorching everything in sight. The ground was ablaze, and several peaks were struck by the falling fireballs, exploding with a terrifying flash of light.
Suddenly, a massive fireball came flying towards Li Rui, rolling and tumbling through the air, its flames obscuring his vision with a deafening roar.
The ground beneath Li Rui's feet felt scalding hot, and he jumped up in alarm, desperately trying to escape. He was right in the middle of the hottest area! As he saw the fireball approaching—first one large one followed by countless others—Li Rui stumbled down the mountain and spotted a refuge in the distance—a deep pool!
This place was originally a bottomless crevice in the mountains, likely caused by an earthquake that created a huge gap perpendicular to the earth's core. Due to Ice Bear's snow cover and the intense heat from the flames, the snow had melted into water, causing everything around to flow toward the crevice, forming an unfathomably deep lake. Li Rui was overjoyed; he certainly didn't want to end up as a roasted version of himself. He dashed toward it while the fireball followed closely behind him.
"Ah, it can turn!" Crazy Old Man cried out in fear. What is happening? Why is it coming straight for me? Li Rui thought to himself, silently hoping that the lake would keep him safe.
The scorching ground was filled with smoke and chaos; no living creature could be seen. All that could be heard was the sound of flames consuming plants, with some areas glowing red from excessive heat.
Fortunately, Li Rui managed to escape just in time; behind him lay a carpet of red earth, and all around was a dark haze filled with the smell of charred remains.
