The Lightning Leopard's form was initially as agile as lightning, but ultimately, due to the vast difference in strength, it was no match for the Qilin. After less than half an hour, it began to fall behind.
Its body was covered in deep wounds, one of which was gushing blood, staining the surrounding fur a dark red and giving off a rusty, bloody scent.
The Lightning Leopard's belly rose and fell continuously, clearly exhausted. With so many wounds bleeding profusely, it could not hold out much longer; at most, it had another fifteen minutes before it would be defeated and become a meal for the Qilin.
The Lightning Leopard was well aware of this but refused to give in. Perhaps it understood that if it surrendered now, the result would be the death of both Li Rui and Old Monster.
Considering that they were both beasts, the Qilin might spare its life. However, its own fate would not be much better; it could end up crippled or even dead.
"Ha ha—"
"Give up! You can't defeat me!" The Qilin arrogantly raised its head.
"No, don't even think about it!" As long as its master could break through quickly, there was still hope!
Time passed second by second. The Lightning Leopard found it increasingly difficult to catch its breath; its limbs were growing weak and gradually losing strength.
It cast a feeble glance at Li Rui and Old Monster.
The energy above their heads was gradually taking shape, swirling and layering upon itself, almost reaching their heads but still seeming to be separated by a thin membrane that prevented it from descending.
No, it couldn't fall yet; its master needed another minute to break through. Old Monster appeared more optimistic than Li Rui. Although he looked as thin as a piece of paper, his skills were profound, requiring much more True Qi than Li Rui, meaning he would take longer.
In other words, it had to hold on for at least another minute.
However, looking at its current situation, it would be a blessing if it could hold on for another moment!
Sure enough, after a moment, the Lightning Leopard was defeated. The Qilin narrowed its eyes and walked in front of it, looking down as if to deliberately intimidate the Lightning Leopard. It could have easily killed the Lightning Leopard with a single swipe, but the Qilin merely raised its paw and held it there for two or three minutes without striking.
A trace of despair crossed the Lightning Leopard's face as it closed its eyes heavily.
The Qilin smiled lightly, and its paw suddenly came down.
"Bang—" A deafening sound rang in the Lightning Leopard's ears.
Is it dead? No, if it were dead, how could it still hear sounds?
With this thought in mind, the Lightning Leopard opened its eyes in shock.
It saw a figure standing in front of it—not the Qilin, but the Old Monster! The Qilin was facing the Old Monster, gritting its teeth and glaring at him. Something was seeping from its blue fur on the right side of its forehead.
Some fur that had been knocked off by the Old Monster lay quietly in front of it, speckled with crimson against the beautiful blue fur, making everything that had just happened clear.
"Old Monster, you finally woke up!" it blurted out, complaining to the Old Monster.
"Hehehehe, you missed me, right? You go take care of your injuries; let me teach this ignorant bastard a lesson! If he dares to bully us like this, he should be prepared for what’s coming!" The Old Monster nodded and looked at the somewhat disheveled figure of the Qilin.
The Qilin met the Old Monster's mocking gaze and was actually startled back a step by the aura emanating from him. Then it was shocked by its own reaction.
It is the Qilin! The Qilin, leader of the five divine beasts! How could it be frightened by a mere mortal?! Impossible!
"Don't think I will be scared by your words! Just a moment ago, you were crying out in pain after I hit you. Now, just because you blinked, you think you can defeat me? Let me tell you, that's a foolish dream! Humans all have such flaws!" Qilin's voice echoed as if to bolster its courage.
However, there was a hint of panic in its eyes.
"Hmm? So you're saying I'm just bluffing?" Old Monster raised an eyebrow. "How about we have a match?"
"Of course, I won't assume that you would let me off."
As soon as Qilin finished speaking, Old Monster vanished from his spot. He was the Poison Doctor; the words insidious and cunning were second nature to him. So what if he struck first? So what if he ambushed? All's fair in war!
The figures of the human and beast intertwined. In an instant, just as Qilin was about to lie down next to Li Rui to tend to its wounds and observe the battle between Old Monster and Qilin's Lightning Leopard, it felt strong winds sweeping in from all directions, converging around the area where Old Monster and Qilin were fighting.
"Has Old Monster successfully advanced?" Lightning Leopard's eyes widened in disbelief.
Old Monster had indeed successfully advanced, and not just by one level but two! His cultivation now surpassed that of Qilin!
So within just a short tea break, Qilin found itself at a disadvantage. Old Monster truly lived up to the name "Poison." Qilin was covered in wounds, and almost every scar matched those it had previously inflicted on Lightning Leopard.
It realized that Old Monster was avenging Lightning Leopard and recalled the scene where it had wanted to slap Lightning Leopard to death. Qilin shuddered and hastily left without uttering a word of defeat.
Old Monster did not pursue but returned to Li Rui's side to guard him, allowing him to continue his cultivation.
He was on the verge of a breakthrough; if no one was guarding him and some reckless beast happened to brush against him, it would be light if he merely went mad or had his meridians severed!
Moreover, there was an injured person here that needed his treatment. The Poison Doctor did not differentiate; he could also take a look at Lightning Leopard.
After applying medicine and stopping the bleeding from Lightning Leopard's wounds, Li Rui successfully woke up from his breakthrough.
"You’re awake," Old Monster said. "I have a call to make to you."
Li Rui didn't rush; instead, he focused his gaze on Lightning Leopard, who had been so badly injured by Old Monster's explosion that it was hard to recognize his original form.
Old Monster awkwardly cleared his throat and turned his head away.
Although medicine and poison are closely related, there is still a difference. For example, Old Monster only knew how to kill with poison and not how to save with medicine, especially when it came to bandaging; that had always been his weak point.
After carefully checking Lightning Leopard and confirming that he was fine, Li Rui said, "Let's go. If we stay here any longer, I'm going to mold."
"Uh, that's what I was thinking. It seems like we're trapped here and can't get out."
"Huh?"
"When you broke through, I tried to jump up, but no matter what I did, I couldn't get out."
