Jiao Long suddenly grew larger, now occupying the entire height of the cave. Jiao Long lowered its body to allow Li Rui and the others to climb up, then lifted itself again as they crawled up along Jiao Long's head.
"Go out from here and head north. When you see a cave, you'll reach my old friend's place. Just tell him, 'Old friend, long time no see.' You humans have a saying, 'Honesty is golden.' I have kept my promise, and you must fulfill yours to me," Jiao Long said, slowly transforming back to the size Li Rui and the others had first seen.
"No problem, we will definitely do what we promised," Li Rui shouted towards the cave entrance, which had also closed behind them.
"Do we really have to go to that Qilin Beast?" Lightning Weasel asked. They could now find their own way out; this swamp was strange, and their priority was to escape rather than fulfill an empty promise.
"Jiao Long is right; honesty is golden. If a mere Beast understands the importance of keeping promises, shouldn't we as humans do even better than a Beast whose intelligence is not fully developed?" Li Rui replied.
"Yes, one should not speak without integrity," Old Monster agreed.
"We're supposed to go north, but this place is all swamp, and with the flying restrictions in place, how do we get out?" After saying this, Lightning Weasel fell silent, and both Li Rui and Old Monster regretted not asking Jiao Long how to exit the swamp earlier.
"Smart all your life, foolish for a moment," Old Monster sighed.
"Let's think about how to get out," Li Rui said as he began to study their surroundings.
The water in this swamp was unusual; even feathers dropped onto the ground would sink. Perhaps if he used the Time Rule to stop the flow of water here, they could escape. Li Rui quickly decided to try this method.
He first used the Time Rule to cover the surrounding water area and then tore a piece of cloth from his clothes and tossed it onto the water's surface.
"Just as I thought," he exclaimed in surprise as he watched the cloth float without sinking.
The swamp was covered by a layer of flowing water, like a mechanism. Once something obstructed the flow of water, the mechanism would activate, causing the swamp to swallow whatever blocked it.
Knowing how to solve their problem, Li Rui headed north while continuing to use the Time Rule on the surrounding water area. Seeing that Li Rui did not sink, Old Monster and Lightning Weasel followed him.
"Look over there," Li Rui pointed out. Ahead of them was a white lotus flower. The white lotus emitted a faint glow; its purity stood in stark contrast to the surrounding scene, making it seem very out of place.
"This must be the legendary Sacred Heart Lotus," Old Monster said excitedly, his voice trembling slightly.
"What is a Sacred Heart Lotus?" Li Rui asked; he had never heard of such a thing.
“The Sacred Heart Lotus is a legendary herb said to dispel all evil. But this thing has been lost to time; how could it appear in this swamp?” The Old Monster fell into deep thought.
“Perhaps it’s because the conditions here are quite special. Some rare treasures only manifest in specific environments, but this isn’t something I recall from my ancestral memories,” the Lightning Weasel said, puzzled. Did even the ancestors not know of its existence?
No one noticed a faint fragrance wafting through the air, as Li Rui and his companions were completely immersed in the allure of the Sacred Heart Lotus.
Li Rui thought to himself how beautiful this lotus was. If he picked it and gave it to his wife, she would surely be delighted. He took a step toward the Sacred Heart Lotus.
I have seen the legendary Sacred Heart Lotus; I must obtain it! The Old Monster also stepped forward toward the Sacred Heart Lotus.
The two reached the location of the Sacred Heart Lotus and began to grapple with each other, both red-eyed and fiercely competing for it, unwilling to yield.
“Roar!” The Lightning Weasel let out a roar that snapped the two back to reality, only to find that the Sacred Heart Lotus had already vanished. It was then they realized that the location of the Sacred Heart Lotus had not been covered by the Time Rule.
It turned out that the Sacred Heart Lotus was merely an illusion of the swamp; this environment had no effect on the Lightning Weasel, which allowed both to escape disaster.
If Li Rui and the Old Monster had continued fighting, the consequences would have been unimaginable; even if one emerged victorious, they would still be consumed by the swamp.
“This swamp is truly extraordinary,” the Old Monster couldn’t help but exclaim.
After this incident, the three continued on their journey without encountering anything similar to the Sacred Heart Lotus again.
“This should be Qilin Cave,” Li Rui said as he arrived at the entrance of Qilin Cave.
“It should be; I can sense a pressure inside comparable to that of Jiao Long,” said the Lightning Weasel as he felt the aura emanating from within the cave.
“Qilin Senior, we are here to deliver a message; are you present?” Since the other party was on par with Jiao Long and could easily put them in danger, Li Rui’s tone was somewhat respectful.
No sound came from within the cave, so Li Rui had no choice but to step inside, followed closely by the Old Monster and Lightning Weasel.
“Who gave you the audacity to trespass into my cave?” As soon as they entered, they heard a commanding voice, and then Qilin Beast appeared before Li Rui.
“Qilin Senior, just now I didn't hear any movement inside the cave, so I came in to check,” Li Rui said respectfully. Although they had recovered somewhat on the way, they hoped they were not Qilin's match.
“Enough nonsense. Those who trespass into my cave have only one path—death,” Qilin declared and launched a fierce attack.
Qilin first lunged at Li Rui, who dodged to the left. Little did he know this was merely a distraction; Qilin's true target was the Lightning Weasel behind Li Rui.
Ah, the Lightning Weasel. If he kills him and seizes his power, he could defeat Jiao Long. The more Qilin thought about it, the more excited he became.
The Lightning Weasel wanted to evade, but it was too late. At that moment, Old Monster stepped forward to attack Qilin, drawing his attention.
“Old Buddy, I hadn't noticed you at first and was going to let you go, but it seems you seek death,” Qilin temporarily spared the Lightning Weasel and approached Old Monster.
“Wait, Qilin Senior, Jiao Long sent us to deliver a message: ‘Old friend, long time no see,’” Li Rui hurriedly interjected. If what Jiao Long said was true and Qilin was indeed an old friend of his, then the three of them should be safe.
“Old friends we truly are, haha,” Li Rui thought he might escape disaster, but unexpectedly, Qilin's attacks grew even fiercer.
In an instant, Li Rui understood what was happening. They had been set up. Damn that Jiao Long, he cursed inwardly. He never expected that Jiao Long and Qilin were this kind of “old friends.”
