Chapter 76
"What are you talking about?" I rolled up my sleeves and walked in. "I'm here to help."
"Get out of here and stop causing trouble," Qiao Qiran said.
"I'm not causing trouble," I insisted. "I didn't know how before, but now I want to learn. Is that a problem?"
Lu Weize walked over and said, "Just go outside; the smoke in the kitchen is bad for your skin."
"See? Lu Weize is so considerate," I shot a glance at Qiao Qiran and then stepped outside.
I leaned against the kitchen door, watching Lu Weize's tall figure, feeling warm inside.
...
Forty minutes later, Lu Weize and Qiao Qiran came out carrying dishes.
"It's time to eat."
I immediately rushed over to help.
Lu Weize pulled out a chair for me. "You can sit here."
"Thank you," I smiled as I sat down.
Qiao Qiran pouted but didn't say anything.
During dinner, I asked, "What were you two talking about in the kitchen just now?"
"Nothing much," Qiao Qiran replied. "I was just asking Lu Weize what he was working on."
"Oh," I nodded, not pressing further.
After finishing our meal, Qiao Qiran suggested that Lu Weize and I play cards, with the loser having to accept the other's intimate gestures.
Qiao Qiran and I exchanged glances and both agreed without hesitation.
After playing for two hours, I had lost almost every round, while Lu Weize lost very few. Qiao Qiran couldn't stand it anymore.
"I'll take over," Qiao Qiran said as he sat in my spot.
Lu Weize raised an eyebrow. "Qiao Ge, the loser is supposed to get punished."
"I know," Qiao Qiran said nonchalantly. "Bring it on."
Lu Weize smiled faintly. "Then let's get started."
"Wait a minute," I suddenly called out. "I'm changing the rules."
Lu Weize looked at me. "Go ahead."
"The one who loses gets beaten up, and the one who wins also gets beaten up," I said.
Lu Weize: "..."
Qiao Qiran: "..."
...
After playing for another hour, Lu Weize said his goodbyes and left.
I reluctantly saw him to the elevator door, and only after the doors closed did I look away.
Qiao Qiran cleared his throat: "He's already far away."
I shot him a glare.
Qiao Qiran leaned closer to me: "I can tell that Lu Weize clearly likes you."
"So what?" I replied unhappily, "We've already broken up."
"If he pursues you, why not agree to him?" Qiao Qiran frowned, "When did you become so easygoing?"
"Huh?" I looked at him in confusion, "What do you mean?"
"Right now, you're the one who got dumped, not the other way around," Qiao Qiran explained, "Shouldn't the one pursuing you be him?"
"Ah?" I was even more confused.
Qiao Qiran patiently said, "You should be a bit reserved now and not forgive him too easily."
I: "..."
The next morning, I was going to the airport to pick up a new senior brother, and I invited Qiao Qiran to come along.
"The senior brother is coming to Luzhou for the first time; let's take him out for a meal," I suggested.
Qiao Qiran nodded, "Sure, where do you want to eat?"
"I'm fine with anything," I replied. "Just don't make it too expensive; the senior brother is paying for himself."
"Then let's eat at a hotel," Qiao Qiran proposed. "I'll book a private room."
"Let's not do that," I shook my head. "Let's eat at home; it shows sincerity."
Qiao Qiran looked a bit surprised. "You're willing to let him into our home?"
"Why wouldn't I?" I asked, puzzled. "He's our senior brother and he's here to help us; we should show him hospitality."
"Alright, we'll do it your way," Qiao Qiran nodded.
At the airport, Qiao Qiran and I picked up Senior Brother Liu Yu, who was a very handsome man.
Tall and elegant in demeanor.
"Lin Chu, I didn't book a hotel. Let's stay at the same place," Liu Yu said.
I smiled and replied, "I don't stay in hotels; I live at home."
Liu Yu paused for a moment, "Oh, I see."
Chapter 77
Liu Yu followed me and Qiao Qiran back to Qiao Qiran's house.
"Senior Brother, this is my brother, Qiao Qiran," I introduced. "Brother, this is the Senior Brother I told you about, Liu Yu."
"Hello," Qiao Qiran and Liu Yu shook hands.
"This is a gift for you," Liu Yu handed over a gift box.
Qiao Qiran glanced at me.
"This is just a small token of appreciation from the Senior Brother; please accept it," I said.
Only then did Qiao Qiran take it, "Thank you."
The three of us had dinner at the table, and Qiao Qiran and Liu Yu got along well. However, their conversation always revolved around me.
Qiao Qiran wanted to know who Liu Yu's parents were, but he clearly did not want to talk about it.
After dinner, Qiao Qiran accompanied Liu Yu to the hotel while I packed my things, preparing to go to Guanlan Temple.
Liu Yu's job was to paint murals, and as his assistant, I had to follow him.
"Senior brother, my brother just worries too much; please don't take it personally," I said apologetically.
Liu Yu smiled faintly and asked, "Is he your biological brother?"
"No," I replied, "but my brother treats me very well, like a real sister."
"Oh," Liu Yu nodded. "What does your brother do?"
"He works in the military," I answered.
Liu Yu nodded again and did not say anything further.
At Guanlan Temple.
Liu Yu and I arrived at the temple and joined other professionals to study the themes and styles of the murals.
This was a massive project that required everyone to work together to complete it.
"I think we could use Buddhist stories as our theme..."
"I think we could make it more abstract, using colors to express the depth of Buddhism..."
Everyone shared their opinions, and the discussion was very lively.
I kept my eyes on everyone discussing, my gaze fixed on the computer screen, fingers swiftly gliding over the desk, recording the opinions being shared.
Liu Yu looked at me seriously, a slight smile tugging at the corners of his lips.
He thought, "This girl, although young, is quite reliable. She really is my type."
After the discussion ended, Liu Yu and I returned to the office to continue refining the proposal.
Suddenly, my phone rang.
Liu Yu glanced at it; it was an unfamiliar number.
It seemed he didn't hear it and continued working.
The phone rang for a while before stopping, only to ring again shortly after.
Liu Yu casually said, "Are you going to answer that?"
After a pause, I replied, "Can you answer it for me?"
Liu Yu picked up the phone: "Hello?"
There was a moment of silence on the other end before two words were spoken: "Thank you."
After that, the caller hung up.
From the tone of the caller's voice, Liu Yu sensed a hint of tension.
He raised his eyes to look at me, focused on his painting, completely unaware of my gaze.
Liu Yu squinted.
Who is this man?
In the following days, Liu Yu and I continued to stay at Guanlan Temple, confirming the theme and style with everyone, and then began preparing the initial draft.
He was extremely serious about his work, almost to the point of being oblivious.
Chapter 78
Late at night.
I finally finished today's work.
Liu Yu had ordered takeout dinner in advance but hadn't eaten yet.
Liu Yu left early for a business cocktail party.
After packing up, I glanced at my phone and saw three missed calls, all from Lu Weize.
After hesitating for a moment, I called back.
The phone rang only once before it was hung up.
With a slight frown, I put my phone into my bag and then left Guanlan Temple, taking a taxi to Yunshan Hotel.
The taxi stopped in front of the hotel.
As I got out, I immediately saw Lu Weize standing at the entrance.
He was wearing a black suit paired with a deep blue checkered shirt, looking handsome and poised.
Lu Weize also spotted me and waved.
I walked over.
"Let me introduce you. This is my teacher, Steven," Lu Weize said. "This is my roommate, Li Mingjiao."
"Hello," I greeted politely.
"This is my..." Lu Weize hesitated for a moment, "my friend, Lin Chu."
"Miss Lin Chu is very beautiful," Steven complimented.
I smiled shyly and replied, "Thank you."
"Let's go inside," Lu Weize said.
"You go first, I'll wait for Liu Yu," I said.
Lu Weize's expression darkened.
At that moment, Liu Yu's car stopped at the entrance.
He got out, surprisingly holding a bouquet of roses.
I was taken aback.
Liu Yu walked up to me and handed the roses to her: "Lin Chu, I like you."
I was quite surprised.
"Mr. Liu, I'm sorry, but Lin Chu is allergic to pollen," Lu Weize stepped forward to take the roses from him.
Liu Yu frowned: "Don't misunderstand, I have no ill intentions towards her."
"I know," Lu Weize replied with a smile, "she's just allergic to pollen, so please don't misunderstand."
Liu Yu chuckled: "I was being abrupt."
"Let's go inside," Lu Weize said.
I nodded.
In the private room, a few people were having a lively conversation.
"Lu Weize, several research institutions want you to join them. Have you made your decision?" Steven asked.
"I want to stay in the country," Lu Weize replied.
"Why?" Steven asked, puzzled.
Lu Weize glanced at me and smiled faintly, "Because the person I care about the most is here."
"I understand," Steven nodded. "I hope you succeed."
Lu Weize nodded in response.
Downstairs.
Liu Yu and I stood outside.
"Lin Chu, I really didn't know you were allergic to pollen. Sending you that bouquet was my way of expressing my feelings for you."
Liu Yu's voice trembled slightly, but more than that, it was sincere. "I know this might come as a surprise, but I can no longer hide my feelings for you. I want to say that I liked you ever since we were apprentices together, and now that we are working together, those feelings have only grown stronger..."
I looked at Liu Yu, feeling a bit moved, but soon regained my composure.
"Liu Yu, your flowers are beautiful, and I can feel your intentions. But I'm really sorry; I cannot accept your feelings. You are a good person and deserve someone better to love you."
"Why?" Liu Yu asked, confused. "Is it because of Lu Weize?"
I shook my head. "It has nothing to do with you or anyone else."
"Is it because you have someone you like?" Liu Yu asked.
I lowered my gaze and remained silent.
Liu Yu said, "I understand."
A hint of disappointment flashed in his eyes, but he quickly adjusted his emotions and showed an understanding smile.
"Lin Chu, I respect your choice. If you ever need help in the future, please feel free to let me know."
I replied, "Okay."
He smiled faintly. "I'll head up first."
I also went to the restroom. I knew that Liu Yu was a true gentleman; his affection was sincere, but he also understood respect and letting go.
I looked at myself in the mirror, the corners of my lips slightly curling up.
Actually, Liu Yu is a really outstanding person, but I have no feelings for him.
Because I know my heart is small and can only accommodate one person.
That person is Lu Weize.
I decided that once this job is over, I would go find Lu Weize and tell him how I feel.
As I left the restroom and passed by the smoking room, I saw Lu Weize standing inside, smoking.
I frowned and pushed the door open to walk in.
"Aren't you supposed to keep your promise and not smoke?" I questioned.
Lu Weize extinguished his cigarette and looked at me. "Is that agreement still valid?"
I paused. "Of course it's valid."
