Zhao Gang showed a hint of joy on his face, repeatedly nodding in thanks. I closed the door and turned to walk towards the living room. I understood that this time, Zhao Gang truly realized his mistake.
I reached the living room and told my parents about Zhao Gang's family's predicament. My father was smoking, his brow furrowed, and he said nothing. My mother sighed beside him.
"Do we really have to help them?" I asked.
"What do you think?" my father countered.
After a moment of thought, I replied, "I think we should help them. After all, we are neighbors, and they are indeed in a difficult situation right now."
My father nodded and said, "I think so too."
"But what if we help them and they end up hurting us instead?" my mother said worriedly. This was also my biggest concern. We all knew the character of Zhao Gang's family; they were not the type to be grateful.
"I don't think they would do that," my father said.
"Why?" both my mother and I asked simultaneously.
"Because they need our help right now. If they were to think about harming us in this situation, it would be self-destructive," my father calmly analyzed.
My mother and I fell silent, realizing that my father's words made sense.
"Then let's help them," I said.
"Okay, you go tell them that we can help, but they must cooperate with us," my father instructed.
I nodded and turned to head towards the door. When I delivered this message to Zhao Gang, a grateful smile appeared on his face.
"Thank you, Lin Hao," Zhao Gang said sincerely.
"No need to thank me; it's just cooperation," I replied calmly.
Zhao Gang nodded and said, "I understand. We will cooperate well with you."
Thus, our Two Families began our collaboration.
The disaster continued, and the shortage of food and water became increasingly severe, but our cooperation grew tighter.
We searched for food and water sources together, facing various dangers and challenges side by side. Gradually, we became dependent on each other.
During this process, we encountered some friction and conflicts, but these were resolved through our wisdom and humor.

Both of our Two Families had elderly members and children who needed more food and water to maintain their health.
However, our reserves were already stretched thin and could not meet the demand.
This intensified the conflict.
That noon, we were having lunch when my younger brother suddenly stood up and protested loudly. "Why do they have canned meat, but we don't?" I was taken aback and turned to look at my parents. They also had puzzled expressions, clearly unaware of the situation. Zhao Gang's face turned awkward, and he stammered, unable to say anything. I immediately realized that Zhao Gang might have hidden some food and hadn't shared it. This made the members of our family feel angry and betrayed. In an instant, the atmosphere in the room became tense.
