Traveling from north to south, Bai Tang dealt with hundreds of mutated animals. These creatures had developed high intelligence and worshipped Bai Tang like a deity. By the time Bai Tang arrived at City Base, tales of her as the Beast God had already spread among the mutated beasts.
Now that she was in the city, Bai Tang recalled Sheng Qingxi's invitation and decided to visit him and Cao Xue at the base. City Base was one of the least damaged bases aside from those within S Province. The city was surrounded by mountains on three sides and bordered a freshwater lake to the south, creating a picturesque landscape. Due to its location on a low-latitude plateau, it enjoyed a "spring-like" climate all year round, especially with highland lakes regulating temperature and humidity, resulting in fresh air, clear skies, bright sunshine, and blooming flowers; thus, natural disasters were minimal here. The winter snow was over a month less than in other bases.
The city was famous for its tourism attractions, including the Stone Forest, known as "the first wonder under heaven," featuring beautiful legends like "Ashima," vibrant Yi embroidery, ancient and magical Torch Festival celebrations, and lively Sani Song and Dance performances. The natural scenery of the Stone Forest intertwined beautifully with its cultural heritage, leaving visitors enchanted and unable to forget; another world wonder was the Jiuxiang Cave Group, which exuded endless beauty and charm as one cave led into another, showcasing incredible geological features and stunning landscapes. From curtains formed by calcium carbonate mineral deposits to stone pillars and stalactites shaped by powerful water flows—some resembled dragons swaying above cave ceilings while others refracted brilliant colors under light; Daguang Tower was built during the Kangxi era and named for its view overlooking Dianchi Lake and distant Western Hills. It stood three stories tall by the water's edge with many fine couplets inscribed on its pillars.
Before the apocalypse, Bai Tang had planned to travel to the city with Bai Dad and Bai Ma; unfortunately, their trip never happened due to the onset of disaster. Now Bai Tang decided that after returning from the Dream of the Red Chamber world, she would take her parents on a trip to that city's attractions. Although Daguang Tower had not yet been rebuilt, places like Stone Forest and Jiuxiang Cave Group along with Dianchi Lake were definitely worth visiting.
