Due to Yin Susu, the Eagle Sect and Wudang became in-laws. The two sides should not have clashed, but Yin Zheng was stubborn. Even after separating from Ming Jiao for decades, upon hearing that Ming Jiao was in danger, he rushed to join the others in their plight. Even though his son-in-law had written to him beforehand, explaining that Ming Jiao's actions endangered the common people and plunged them into war, making it a true evil sect, Yin Zheng knew his son-in-law was right. He had seen the chaos instigated by Ming Jiao, but it was still the place of his origin, and he had feelings for it; he did not wish to see it perish. He realized the situation was dire and did not bring his son and grandson to the Bright Summit as in the original story.
At this moment, both Yin Zheng and Zhang Songxi had wisps of heat rising from their heads. In that brief moment, they each unleashed their inner strength cultivated over years. They stood like two stone statues, with not a strand of hair or corner of clothing fluttering. Yin Zheng exuded an imposing aura, his eyes shining like lightning. Zhang Songxi, however, adhered strictly to the Wudang principle of "waiting for the enemy to tire and using stillness to counter movement," maintaining a tight defense. He knew that Yin Zheng was over twenty years older than him and had cultivated his inner strength for more than twenty years longer, but he was in his prime, full of energy, while the opponent was aging; given enough time, he might find an opportunity to win. Little did he know that Yin Zheng was truly an extraordinary figure in the martial world; despite his age, his vitality was not inferior to that of a youth. His inner strength surged like waves, crashing continuously toward Zhang Songxi from his palms. Suddenly, both Yin Zheng and Zhang Songxi shouted in unison, their palms exerting force as they each retreated six or seven steps.
Zhang Songxi said, "Senior Yin's skills are exceptional; I admire you! I have already lost half a move by retreating just now." He bowed respectfully and calmly stepped back.
Yin Zheng stood in the center and called out loudly, "Is there anyone else willing to fight? I will take them on."
"Grandfather!" Zhang Wuji rushed into the center and said to Yin Zheng, "Grandfather, stop fighting! Everyone has fallen into Cheng Kun's scheme!"
"Wuji?" Seeing his grandson safe, Yin Zheng felt relieved. "Where have you been? Your parents were worried sick."
"What about my parents?"
"They are searching for you down the mountain." In reality, they were unsure which side to take and chose to avoid this battle altogether.
"Grandfather, please don't fight! Everything is part of Yuan Kun's scheme; he is sowing discord between Ming Jiao and the Six Major Sects." Zhang Wuji shouted.
"Wuji, come back!" Yu Lianzhou sternly called for Zhang Wuji to return to the Wudang circle.
"Second Master Uncle! Please persuade the leaders of other sects; Ming Jiao is innocent! Tell them not to attack Ming Jiao anymore!" The foolish young man Zhang Shaoxia began urging his own master uncle while also entrusting Yin Li to a young third-generation disciple for care.
"Wuji, be quiet! Help your Senior Brother Song save people; no more talking!" Zhang Songxi felt frustrated; how could his brother's family raise such a simple-minded child? He couldn't even compare to half of Qing Shu.
"Second Master Uncle?!" How could you say that? A righteous friend felt dissatisfied and protested loudly but was pulled away by Song Shaoxia to the back of the crowd.
"Junior Brother, I can't handle everything alone; please help me out!"
During this joint operation of the six sects, Song Shaoxia fully played his role as a caretaker. Had it not been for someone being killed on the spot, all those injured were saved thanks to Song Qingshu's medical treatment. The members of the Six Major Sects were immensely grateful to Song Qingshu; his reputation soared rapidly and showed signs of surpassing that of the Shaolin leader. In the martial world, those skilled in medicine were often more respected than those skilled in combat since everyone faced danger at some point.
"Senior Brother Song, please help me persuade Second Master Uncle!" Zhang Wuji persistently tugged at Song Qingshu.
"Qingshu, all injuries among the female disciples from Huashan have been treated; what should we do next?" A pleasant female voice interrupted their conversation. Zhang Wuji turned toward the voice and was taken aback. He thought Zhao was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen; unexpectedly, he encountered such a stunning girl who compared favorably with Zhao—each excelling in their own way—and this girl possessed an additional touch of elegance.
"There are no more injured; you should rest! I originally invited you here for entertainment but ended up troubling you with work." Emei, Kunlun, and Huashan all had female disciples; if they were injured in sensitive areas, Song Qingshu would feel embarrassed treating them. Zhou Zhiruo noticed his awkwardness and volunteered to help.
“Song Shige, who is this girl?” Zhang Wuji's attention was instantly captured by the beauty.
Song Qing Shu frowned, clearly displeased with Zhang Wuji's gaze towards Zhou Zhiruo, but she said nothing and introduced the two.
“So you are the Zhang Shao Xia who was kidnapped. It's good that you are back; Song Shaoxia and your elders have been worried about you,” Zhou Zhiruo said politely with a smile. Without the childhood bond of growing up together, Zhou Zhiruo looked down on Zhang Wuji, whose appearance was rather unkempt. Moreover, after experiencing a series of events like being kidnapped and escaping through secret passages, his clothes were dirty and torn, making him look disheveled compared to the elegant and refined Song Shaoxia.
Zhang Wuji felt his face flush; he was embarrassed that a beautiful woman knew about his misfortunes. Would she think he was too weak?
Just as he was about to explain that he wasn't weak and had actually learned profound martial arts through adversity, Song Qing Shu spoke up: “Junior Brother, there are too many injured people; please help me rescue them first.”
“Oh, coming!” Zhang Wuji, kind-hearted and gentle, immediately set aside his thoughts of admiration upon hearing about saving lives. He rushed to his senior brother's side to help—though he also entertained thoughts of future possibilities—seeing the injured lying all around finally reminded him of his purpose in coming to Bright Summit.
“Song Shige, tell Second Master Uncle to stop fighting; everything is part of Cheng Kun's scheme, and Ming Jiao is innocent.”
Song Qing Shu sighed; her uncle and aunt really didn't know how to raise children. Her junior brother had been quite clever before, so how had he turned into an idiot now?
“Junior Brother, the feud between Cheng Kun and Ming Jiao has been known in the martial world for ten years. Otherwise, how could your adoptive father Xie Xun return to the Central Plains without being hunted down? Everyone knows about Cheng Kun's plot and sympathizes with your adoptive father. After Xie Xun avenged himself by killing Cheng Kun, everyone then helped him resolve his grievances.”
“Is that so?” Zhang Wuji was shocked; it turned out what he knew wasn't a secret at all. “But if everyone knows it's all a scheme, why are they still attacking Ming Jiao? This fighting is so unnecessary!”
Song Qing Shu was exasperated by Zhang Wuji's ignorance: “Junior Brother, do you know about the rebellions in Cangzhou, Yuzhou, Lanshui, Mingyang Town, and Dongchuan City?”
Zhang Wuji nodded: “I know!”
“Then do you know who led these rebellions?”
Zhang Wuji shook his head in confusion.
Song Qing Shu: “It was Ming Jiao! Originally called Manichaeism, they have always aimed for rebellion. During the time of the Northern Song, Fang La, who was from Ming Jiao, caused the court's national strength to be depleted until it was ultimately destroyed by the Jin Kingdom. However, they didn't end well either; although the court sent troops to besiege the masters of Ming Jiao, they suffered heavy losses. But there was a remarkable person named Huang Shang. Although he was a civil official, he learned martial arts from Daoist scriptures without a teacher and became an unparalleled master. He single-handedly killed many masters of Ming Jiao and wrote his own martial arts manual called the Nine Yin Manual.”
Zhou Zhiruo admired: “Qing Shu, you know so much!”
Song Qing Shu smiled: “These tales from the martial world were told to me by Bai Senior. If you want to know more, I can share them with you later.”
“Okay!” Zhou Zhiruo happily agreed.
"Senior Brother, the rebels from Ming Jiao are only a part of the whole, right? We can't eradicate everyone!" Zhang Wuji said. "The higher-ups of Ming Jiao did not participate in the rebellion!"
Song Qing Shu wanted to knock Zhang Wuji's head open to see if it was filled with brain fluid or cotton.
"If there were no support from the higher-ups of Ming Jiao and the entire sect, could those people have rebelled?" Song Qing Shu said. "Junior Brother, please think about those who have suffered casualties due to the war, those who have been forced to leave their homes because of it. Their suffering is caused by these people from Ming Jiao. You sympathize with the people of Ming Jiao; why don't you sympathize with those innocent civilians?"
"I..." Zhang Wuji opened his mouth but could not find a rebuttal.
Song Qing Shu sighed: "Ming Jiao brought this upon themselves. Even if the Six Major Sects do not attack them, the court will not tolerate them for long and will eventually send troops to attack the main headquarters of Ming Jiao. In fact, this time, the court played a significant role in promoting the Six Major Sects to unite against Ming Jiao."
"Is that so?" Zhang Wuji felt dejected. He had just found a target to accomplish something great to bring honor to his parents, elders, and brothers, but reality was so cruel. "Before achieving success, one may die first; heroes often shed tears!"
The competition in the arena was still ongoing, but Yin Zheng was already on the verge of exhaustion. If another person came up to fight him, this old hero might very well fall. The Wudang crowd noticed this and, unwilling to take advantage of someone in distress, found reasons to decline. Although Emei's Extinction was ruthless, Yang Xiao was no longer with Ming Jiao. The martial arts Secret Manual from Leaning Sword had been backed up from others; after practicing it, her skills improved significantly, and she considered herself second only to Zhang Sanfeng. Therefore, Extinction maintained her composure and did not enter the fray. The Shaolin monks could not act maliciously, and Huashan and Kongtong had already fought; thus, the next contender fell to Kunlun. He Taichong and his wife from Kunlun were overjoyed; Yin Zheng was at his last gasp, and they would be taking advantage of that.
"Brother Yin is tired; you should rest now. I will take over this round," a loud voice interrupted He Taichong's excitement. What? Xie Xun has arrived?
As soon as he spoke, another person appeared beside Yin Zheng. This person was exceptionally tall with long yellow hair cascading down his shoulders. His eyes were green but lacked luster, and he held a long knife in his hand. Standing there in the square, he exuded an imposing presence. Who else could it be but Golden Mane Lion Xie Xun?
