“Hmph, if you have the ability, then go ahead and hit me! I’m not afraid of you!”
“Cao Xue, you're no match for Brother Teng. Don’t humiliate yourself.” Another female voice joined the argument.
“Ke Fengqin, if we hadn’t saved you back then, you would have been eaten by a Zombie. Now you're betraying us for a man!”
“I’m very grateful that you saved me, but that’s separate from this. Opposing Brother Teng means opposing me!”
“That sounds nice, but he already has a wife!”
“So what? I never thought about making Brother Teng divorce; I just want to be by his side. I like Brother Teng and won’t let him be put in a difficult position!” This one was a true believer in love above all else, though most people wouldn’t believe it. If a man didn’t have strong abilities, would women still cling to him wholeheartedly?
“Pfft! You may like him, but he might not like you back!”

The woman who was exchanging Abilities with Cao Xue quickly retracted her Ability and jumped out of the battle circle upon hearing the man's words. Ke Fengqin gritted her teeth and said, "Cao Xue, don't let me see you next time!"
"Scared of you!" Cao Xue snorted coldly, turned around with a smile, and waved, "Bai Tang!"
"Cao Xue, I'm so glad to see you're okay!" Bai Tang was happy to see her old classmate. At the S Province Base, she had encountered several university classmates and learned from them that most of their peers had suffered misfortunes; only about twenty to thirty percent managed to escape to the S Province Base—she didn't even mention their middle school and high school classmates. Most of those who stayed in City D had survived.
"Bai Tang, you're showing favoritism!" Sheng Qingxi got up from the ground and spat out some blood.
Bai Tang tossed Sheng Qingxi a bottle of red liquid: "Who told you you're not a beauty!"
"My sister, you're not into girls, are you? If so, you better stay away from my Snow." Sheng Qingxi joked.
"Get out of here!" Bai Tang lightly kicked him; Sheng Qingxi dodged to the side with her force and opened the bottle to drink the red liquid.
"Wow, this is amazing medicine!" As soon as the Red Medicine entered his stomach, Sheng Qingxi felt its miraculous effects. "What kind of medicine is this? Where did you get it?"
"A secret medicine from my master; it's not for sale!" Bai Tang said to Cao Xue, "Did you just arrive in Beijing? Do you have a place to stay? Want to come stay at my place?"
"No thanks! We came with people from City Base; they have arranged accommodations for us!" Cao Xue smiled and declined. "But we could find a restaurant and have a good meal."
"Sure! I'll treat you all to a drink at the Tavern!"
The Beijing Base only has one bar, which is said to have a deep background. It offers everything from Erguotou to Moutai to foreign whiskies and brandy. However, the prices are not cheap; a glass of Erguotou costs one or two gold coins—mainly because after the apocalypse, food is scarce, and there is no surplus for brewing, making these drinks rare and driving up prices.
Sheng Qingxi and Cao Xue were both taken aback by the price of the drinks. One ordered a glass of domestic red wine—the kind that used to cost twenty yuan in supermarkets before the apocalypse—while Bai Tang ordered a vodka for Karen Adrian and chose a glass of Purple Cloud Fragrance for herself. Purple Cloud Fragrance is made by steeping derogatory mulberries with rose rock candy in water. The purple liquid is served in a glass, adorned with red rose petals, looking very beautiful.
"The snacks here are quite good!" Bai Tang ordered a table full of snacks: French fries, crispy meat, beef jerky, fried pork ribs... It cost Bai Tang fifty gold coins, but she was reluctant to use gold and paid entirely with crystal cores.
"They're indeed delicious!" Sheng Qingxi chewed on the crispy meat, marveling that the Beijing Base truly excels in food, drinks, and entertainment compared to City Base. City Base doesn't even have bars, let alone restaurants.
"Are you here for the exchange meeting too? But the people from S Province Base haven't arrived yet; why did you come first?"

Bai Tang smiled, "No problem! Even if I'm not around, my disciples can help host you!"
"Your disciples? They must be skilled too! By the way, which sect are you from? You can tell us now, right?"
After the apocalypse, martial arts sects no longer remained hidden; they emerged to assist the military in exterminating zombies. Some had combat power even stronger than ability users. These sects opened their doors to recruit disciples, and many ordinary people without abilities rushed to join them. Although practicing martial arts is tough, it provides an essential survival skill! Thus, martial arts sects are now very popular among young people. Of course, this is under the condition that cultivation has not been made public; cultivation techniques are controlled by the government, and only the most loyal soldiers in the military have opportunities to practice such skills. Sheng Qingxi and Cao Xue exchanged smiles. Their current strength was earned through fighting their way through hordes of zombies. In the face of danger, they never abandoned each other but stood side by side to achieve their current accomplishments.
"How's Uncle Zhang doing?" Bai Tang asked. She hadn't seen Zhang Feng at Beijing Base and wanted to believe he had returned home rather than died. Zhang Feng had taken good care of her—from helping her earn her first pot of gold with her first deal to never questioning her about the source of her goods during subsequent transactions, saving her much trouble.
“Second Uncle is great; he is a Healing Ability User. Because he is precious, the Base Leader won't let him leave the base. I’m with Second Aunt,” Sheng Qingxi said.
“Uncle Zhang got married? When?” Bai Tang asked in surprise. Wasn't Zhang Feng always insisting on being single? How did he suddenly have a partner?
Sheng Qingxi touched his nose and said, “Well, my Second Aunt isn’t a woman!”
If not a woman, then it must be a man!
“So Uncle Zhang is gay!” Bai Tang realized.
“You don’t look down on Second Uncle, do you?” Sheng Qingxi asked.
Bai Tang chuckled, “Of course not! I used to watch a lot of danmei. By the way, did Uncle Zhang and his partner know each other before? Is it because of his partner that Uncle Zhang never got married? Is their relationship like those in dramas where they had to break up due to parental opposition, and then when disaster struck, they were so scared of dying that they couldn't see each other again, ultimately getting bound together by conflict?”
