Bai Tang did not expect to develop feelings for a disheveled stranger. “What’s your name?” After adjusting her mindset, Bai Tang faced the man with a calm demeanor.
The man was wearing clothes provided by Sun Senwen. He was a head taller than Sun Senwen, and although the material of the clothing was stretchy and fit his body well, it still appeared tight on him, highlighting his muscular physique.
“My name is Karen Adrian, from Abel Planet.” The man spoke expressionlessly, but his cold gaze softened considerably when it met Bai Tang.
“Abel Planet?” Bai Tang looked to Sun Senwen for help, as she was unfamiliar with the star systems and planets of the future.
Sun Senwen quickly explained, “It’s within the territory of the Weihuasi Empire, located in the Abel 744 star system in the constellation of Yufu. Abel 744 is a massive star cluster formed by multiple different star systems colliding and merging over approximately three hundred fifty million years. It is about 0 billion light-years away and contains four relatively independent star clusters. However, the mass of these stars may be less than five percent of the total mass of the system. The high-temperature gases only shine in light wavelengths, and over seventy-five percent of the mass of the star cluster consists of dark matter, which is why it’s also called the Pandora Star Cluster. Abel Planet is the only habitable planet within the Pandora Star Cluster, but its environment is harsh, and everyone living there is incredibly tough…”
Sun Senwen glanced at Karen Adrian: “The technological civilization of Abel Planet is underdeveloped and ultimately became a slave planet of the Weihuasi Empire. Residents are forcibly conscripted into military service once they turn sixteen, engaging in the most arduous and dangerous work!”
Karen Adrian clenched his fists tightly, lowering his gaze to hide his intense hatred: “There is no more Abel Star. It has been destroyed under the ambitions of those nobles from the Weihuasi Empire.”
The environment on Abel Star was harsh; to survive, its inhabitants evolved strong physiques and formidable abilities. However, this led to a tragedy for all residents. Due to their robust bodies, Abel Star became a source of soldiers for the Weihuasi Empire. The Abelian soldiers entering the military were treated as slave soldiers; no matter how many merits they earned, they could not be promoted and were provided with minimal resources for training. As a result, none of the Abelian could cultivate their skills beyond level twelve in Martial Arts, even though their physiques and potential made them likely candidates to become masters above level fifteen. To survive longer in the military of the Empire, children from Abel Star began training at three years old in rigorous and dangerous training camps. Some children could not endure the training and died there; ultimately, only half of those who entered training camps emerged alive. By sixteen years old, these children had to leave their home planet and join the military of the Empire, where an average Abelian would not live past seventy years old—a stark contrast to the average lifespan of two to three hundred years in the Empire.
Because of being away from home, the Abelian's feelings towards their mother are quite indifferent. However, even so, they are not heartless; if their loved ones and home planet are destroyed, these Abelian will retaliate at all costs, dragging their enemies down to Hell with them.
The destruction of Abel Star is strictly related to Bai Tang and Sun Senwen. Bai Tang and Sun Senwen plotted against the Weir Family, leading to internal strife within the Weir Empire. Many factions sought to bring Abel Star, a source of military resources, under their control. The royal family of the Weir Empire was unable to intervene effectively and, unwilling to let such a prize fall into the hands of rebellious forces, decided to destroy Abel Star with military force. This action caused all Abelian in various armies to harbor intense hatred, prompting many Abelian in the royal army to flee and join the rebels in retaliation against the royal family. Some insightful Abelian believed that their tragedy stemmed not only from the royal family but also from various factions and so-called nobles, who were all enemies of Abel Star. They argued that Abel Star should be independent and free from being treated as slaves by the royal family and nobles. These individuals formed an organization that rapidly developed amidst the chaos between the noble rebels and the royal family's internal strife. They named this organization "Avengers," which periodically carried out suicide missions to assassinate high-ranking members of the royal family and various factions. The Avengers grew quickly; not only Abelian but many others from enslaved planets also joined this organization. In just twenty years, the Avengers became the fourth largest force within the Empire.
As the organization grew to its current scale, many discordant elements emerged within the Avengers. After tasting power, many sought to gain more, leading to frequent conspiracies over power struggles, with many becoming victims of these plots. Karen Adrian was one such victim. He was one of the high-ranking members of the Avengers but was betrayed by a trusted brother and became a captive of a certain faction during an operation. Fortunately, this faction did not know Karen Adrian's true identity and sold him as an ordinary Abelian to a black market dealer.
After listening to Karen Adrian's account, Bai Tang and Sun Senwen were both filled with emotion. The leaders of the Avengers were too shortsighted; no wonder they had always been enslaved by the Empire; they must not have been very bright.
"Do you want to go back for revenge?" Bai Tang asked. "I can send you an Aircraft."
Karen Adrian stared at Bai Tang and replied calmly, "I am your purchased slave; wherever my master goes, I will follow."
Bai Tang waved his hand: "I am not like those people in the Empire who flaunt their status with slaves; buying you was just a whim. I never intended for you to be my slave; you are free and can leave at any time."
Karen Adrian maintained a serious expression and looked sternly at Bai Tang: "We Abelian value our oaths above all else; since you bought me, you are my master, and I will never betray my master."
Bai Tang asked, "So you won't take revenge?"
Karen Adrian's expression darkened: "Those people are my compatriots!"
Bai Tang said: "Then go to the Alliance and find a place to start anew."
Karen Adrian replied: "I want to follow my master!"
Bai Tang insisted: "Don't call me master!"
Karen Adrian pressed her lips together, her gaze fixed on Bai Tang.
Bai Tang was at a loss with this stubbornness and looked to Sun Senwen for help.
Sun Senwen shrugged, showing that he had no solution!
Bai Tang rubbed her temples: "How about this, if I lend you the money for your ransom, you can pay me back when you have the money."
"Plastic is worthless; I couldn't buy one even if I didn't eat or drink for ten years!"
Bai Tang really thought that a Plastic Bottle wasn't worth even one Huaxia coin.
"What are you going to do then?" Bai Tang exploded.
"Follow you!"
"On what basis?"
"You bought me!"
"If I had known you were this troublesome, I wouldn't have bought you!" Bai Tang muttered.
Karen Adrian stared at Bai Tang innocently and flatly.
Bai Tang wiped her eyes: "Fine, if you want to be a slave, then be one; after all, I'm not losing anything! But you can't follow me; you'll just work here with Sun Senwen for now..."
The conversation was not over when Bai Tang received a system notification.
"Ding, player successfully acquired pet Karen Adrian, pet system activated, reward: 50,000 experience points, and three Time-Space Gate Fragments."
"Ding, your pet Karen Adrian has a loyalty value of 85 points. Loyalty can be assessed; please treat your pet well."
The system's pets have a loyalty value setting. If the loyalty value is too low, there may be instances of pet betrayal. Only with a high loyalty value will betrayal not occur; the higher the loyalty value, the less likely betrayal will happen. If the loyalty value exceeds 80, the pet will never betray; if it exceeds 90, the pet will follow its master through life and death.
Bai Tang was stunned. What the hell? She just casually bought a person, and now he became her pet? What was going on with the system? Did it really just randomly assign someone to her without fearing exposure of its secrets?
