A tall hat made Halwen feel quite pleased, but he still wouldn't speak. Bai Tang helplessly took out a screen from her backpack and pushed it toward Halwen.
"Oh my! What is this? It's so precious!" Halwen's gaze immediately fixed on the screen.
"This is an embroidered screen, one of the traditional crafts of Ancient Earth’s Huaxia. In ancient Huaxia, it was commonly used as a barrier behind the main seat to display nobility and dignity, but it has now been lost."
"Oh, then what I see before me is a rare treasure?" Halwen's eyes sparkled.
"Not so exaggerated; there are still some that have been preserved."
"But the number must be scarce!" Halwen was satisfied, reluctantly shifting his gaze from the screen to Bai Tang. "I don't have ten space fortresses; at most, I only have three!"
"Mr. Halwen, I'm not asking for all ten at once; you can sell them to me in batches. Once the deal is done, I can gift you a piece of Ancient Earth calligraphy and painting as a token of gratitude!"
Halwen was tempted: "Alright, for your calligraphy and painting, I will do my utmost to help you gather ten space fortresses!"
After leaving Halwen's residence, Bai Tang and Sun Senwen parted ways to return to Star Harbor. Bai Tang's journey was quite eventful; those who came looking for trouble were all turned into pig heads by her. In Black Market Star, life was incredibly cheap, but Bai Tang did not take any lives. Intimidation does not always require killing. At this moment, the people of Black Market Star finally realized that the young woman who had just arrived was not an easy target but a dragon in sheep's clothing, capable of crushing them with a flick of her tail. Those who had attacked Bai Tang felt both regret and relief; thankfully, she was not ruthless; otherwise, they would have lost their lives!
After dealing with another group of troublemakers, Bai Tang's keen nose detected the smell of blood. She sniffed in surprise; although she had beaten people into unrecognizable shapes, there had been no bloodshed. The strong scent of blood likely indicated that someone nearby was injured. Such occurrences were common in Black Market Star, but since Bai Tang was in a good mood today, she decided to check it out and possibly save someone if it seemed worthwhile.
Bai Tang's sense of smell was more than ten times sharper than others. Following the scent, she crossed two streets before finding the scene. A group of people was beating a man mercilessly; they were hitting him hard enough that a large pool of blood mixed with chunks of flesh had formed on the ground. It was clear that the man had suffered severe internal injuries. Scanning his body with her spiritual sense, she discovered not only had his insides been ruptured, but he also had two broken ribs and a large chunk of flesh missing from his shoulder as if it had been bitten off. His forehead had a large gash from which blood flowed profusely. The man could barely hold on; the loss of life made his eyes dimmer, yet there remained an unyielding spirit within him.
Upon meeting the man's gaze, Bai Tang felt a stir in her heart; that look reminded her of a dying lone wolf.
"Stop!" Bai Tang instinctively shouted.
The few thugs who were attacking turned to see Bai Tang. The leader laughed and said, "Oh, is this a beauty coming to save her hero? Beautiful lady, that guy is just trash; why not come with me? I can definitely satisfy you!"
He lewdly rubbed himself as the other thugs laughed heartily and mimicked his actions.
"Seeking death!" Bai Tang was furious; in an instant, several thugs were kicked away by her. The leader suffered the worst fate—his groin was kicked so hard that he would face psychological trauma even if future technology could repair it; whether he could perform again would remain uncertain.
Lifting the injured man in her arms, Bai Tang was about to leave when a voice stopped her.
"You can't take him!" A man dressed like a butler emerged from around the corner. "This person is merchandise of our Oufa Trading Company. If you want to take him, you must complete a transaction with our business first!"
"Oh? What if I don't?" Bai Tang raised an eyebrow. She had noticed the man hiding nearby and initially thought he was just an innocent bystander, but it turned out he was in cahoots with those thugs.
The man smiled and took out a remote control button. With a gentle press, the injured man trembled all over, his breath becoming even weaker.
The man chuckled, "Every item in our business has protective measures to prevent them from escaping or being stolen. For lost merchandise, if not found within three days, we will activate the automatic destruction program on the item!"
Bai Tang did not take the man's subtle threat seriously; however, if money could solve the problem, she didn't want to create trouble for herself!
"Name your price! I want to buy this person."
The man wore a standard commercial smile. "Item number thirteen is one of the best in this batch of goods. However, since he has a connection with you, I'll give you a twenty percent discount. Three million eight hundred thousand Federation Credits!"
Bai Tang scoffed, "The best merchandise? The best merchandise wouldn't be beaten to death by you!"
The man shrugged. "What can I do? He tried to escape! He needs to be taught a lesson! Besides, my men know their limits and won't kill him."
"Enough nonsense. I don't have that much cash; I'll exchange something for you!" With that, Bai Tang took something out of her backpack and threw it to the man.
The man quickly caught it. "Is this bottle made from a newly invented material?"
"No! This is a Plastic Bottle, a synthetic material from five thousand years ago on Ancient Earth. It is a polymer compound formed through addition or condensation reactions that can freely change its composition and shape. It consists of synthetic resin and additives like fillers, plasticizers, stabilizers, lubricants, and colorants. It's not available now," Bai Tang explained. It was a Pure Water Bottle with half a bottle of water left inside. Bai Tang had plenty of items from the Twenty-First Century in her backpack, but the least valuable one was the Pure Water Bottle. She didn't want to make it too easy for this Scammer.
"Plastic?" The man exclaimed excitedly as he tightened his grip on the bottle. "Is yours real?"
"You can take it back for testing; if it's not real, feel free to find me! I won't leave Black Market Star today; I'll leave tomorrow!" Bai Tang said calmly. "Now can you deactivate his self-destruct mechanism?"
"Sure!" the man replied. He was already laughing inwardly; if this bottle was indeed plastic, its value far exceeded that of a strong male product. As long as he could prove the material of the bottle, he would surely receive accolades from above, and the path to promotion would soon be laid out before him.
The man helped the injured person disable the self-destruct device, which was a chip installed at the back of the person's neck. Bai Tang, knowing its location, lightly sliced through the skin at the back of the neck and removed the chip. With a twist of her fingers, she turned the chip into powder.
The man's heart skipped a beat; the material of the chip was extremely sturdy, even a level fifteen martial arts master couldn't crush it, yet this woman before him had reduced it to powder. Just how powerful was she? While he was astonished, he also felt relieved that he hadn't offended this High Master. But had he really not offended her? Holding the pure water bottle, he wondered if he should return it.
Bai Tang paid no further attention to the man and directly carried the injured person away. The man watched Bai Tang's figure disappear and decided that even if the bottle wasn't made of plastic, he absolutely wouldn't confront Bai Tang about it.
"Who is this?" Sun Senwen exclaimed in surprise as he saw Bai Tang return to the starship carrying a severely injured man. "Did you injure him?"
Bai Tang shot Sun Senwen a glance. "How could that be possible? I bought him."
"Bought him?" Sun Senwen was taken aback; while there were human trafficking operations in the black market, he didn't expect someone like Bai Tang, who lived under a red banner, would engage in such activities. His gaze roamed over the man's handsome face and perfectly sculpted body, seemingly understanding why Bai Tang would buy this man, and a lewd smile crept onto his lips.
"What are you thinking!" Bai Tang threw a cup that hit Sun Senwen on the head. "I ran into this guy on my way and saw he was about to be beaten to death, so I saved him. It turned out that his assailants were from some trading company and had installed a self-destruct device on him. I couldn't bear to let someone die right in front of me, so I exchanged a pure water bottle for him."
"A pure water bottle?" Sun Senwen's mouth twitched. "You really know how to do business!"
"Of course!" Bai Tang raised an eyebrow proudly and asked, "Where's the medical device? Hurry up and bring it over; if you don't hurry, this guy is going to die."
"I don't have a medical device," Sun Senwen changed his tone, "but I do have a medical pod!"
Bai Tang looked at him skeptically. "Isn't that the same thing?"
"Not quite. The medical device isn't as effective as the medical pod, and it doesn't work as quickly!"
"Stop rambling; hurry up and get this person into the medical pod. I don't want anyone dying; that would be a loss on my investment!"
"It's just a Plastic Bottle; what kind of loss could it be?"
"Plastic Bottle is considered an antique now!"
"I see through your Scammer nature; you are just a profit-making machine!"
"Thank you for the compliment; that's exactly my pursuit! I want to be a big woman in the noodle business!"
"A noodle business? You don't actually have a noodle shop, do you?" Sun Senwen asked curiously, otherwise how could Bai Tang freely come and go between two noodle places?
The response was two chuckles from Bai Tang, who neither confirmed nor denied it!
"Ah! You are simply the illegitimate child of God; I envy you!"
While the two were bantering, the man's wounds in the treatment pod had already healed. His eyes slowly opened, and his deep gaze fixed directly on Bai Tang, who was laughing brightly due to having touched on a certain joke.
Feeling something, Bai Tang turned her head, and her gaze collided with the man's. It was as if she saw a frozen sea of fire or a curtain filled with stars.
The man wanted to speak but only let out a stream of bubbles. His gaze was locked onto Bai Tang, his handsome brows slightly furrowed, as if his eyes were saying: "My life now belongs to you!"
In that instant, Bai Tang's heart raced!
