Yuan Mingyi rushed into the room and picked up Tian Yanran from the ground. Perhaps due to the threat of strong enemies, the two Zombies did not have time to enjoy their "food." Bai Tang would not shortchange herself; if Yuan Mingyi and Tian Yanran questioned her recovery from injuries, she could brush it off with “Special Physique, related to Ability.” After all, this world had even seen Zombies, so a few more oddities wouldn’t surprise anyone too much.
Bai Tang took out one Antidote Pill and one Peiyuan Pill, melting them into two Pure Water Bottles. The healing effect of the Peiyuan Pill was not as good as that of the Red Medicine, but there was less quantity of Red Medicine. Besides saving some for herself and her family, she did not want to use it unless absolutely necessary.
“Eh? Is that him?” Yuan Mingyi’s surprised voice came through.

Bai Tang sneered, "Ability Users are only immune to Zombie Viruses of the same level. You are just a beginner Ability User, and both Zombies are first-level, so of course, you can't resist their Zombie Virus."
"First-level?" Yuan Mingyi exclaimed, although he had some suspicions.
"First-level speed-type Zombie!" Bai Tang said. "We don't know if it's lucky or unlucky. Once you finish bandaging Tian Yanran, let's look for the heads of those two Zombies and see if they have Crystal Cores inside!"
Yuan Mingyi worriedly asked, "With Zombies evolving so quickly, can humanity really defeat them?"
"From ancient times to now, humanity has faced many disasters—earthquakes, tsunamis, plagues. The threats from ancient times were not any less than the current threat of Zombies to humanity. Yet humanity has overcome them all and achieved today's prosperity. Humanity is weak yet strong; you should have more faith in humanity," Bai Tang said as she crouched down to feed a comatose person a Peiyuan Pill. "Just like this person; with the spread rate of a first-level Zombie Virus, he should have turned into a Zombie long ago. The fact that he hasn't transformed yet is thanks to his willpower! The will of humanity is the strongest!"
The Peiyuan Pill protected Tang Minglang's heart and slowly repaired his internal organs and injuries. Bai Tang tenderly fed him another whole Antidote Pill. She didn't have many Antidote Pills left in her backpack! Calling the system, calling the Game Store! I waited for you until the flowers wilted.
"Cough cough!" Tang Minglang woke up, seeing an unfamiliar car roof above him. He blinked in confusion as his memories began to resurface. After losing to an unknown rogue at the Martial Arts Conference, Tang Minglang's status among the younger generation of the Tang family plummeted. Those who used to curry favor with him had all changed their tune; they no longer approached him, not even to mock him. The proud Young Master Tang couldn't bear this treatment and angrily left home to vent his frustrations, but instead of feeling better, the apocalypse arrived. Young Master Tang, skilled in martial arts, initially shocked by the situation, found it easy to kill those clumsy Zombies as if he were slaughtering chickens or ducks, which made him somewhat complacent.
Young Master Tang fought his way out of Magic City and prepared to return home. Although he was dissatisfied with his declining status within the family and felt resentment towards the patriarch and elders, his grandparents and parents truly cared for him. Young Master Tang thought about rushing home to check on their safety! In Young Master Tang's mind, his four elders would never turn into those monstrous Zombies. Those who became monsters were all physically weak; although his grandparents were nearing eighty, they practiced martial arts and their physical condition was not worse than that of ordinary young people—they definitely wouldn't become Zombies.
With a heart full of longing for home, Young Master Tang shot hidden weapons at Zombies without restraint until he had very few left. Only then did he realize he had no place to replenish his hidden weapons! Regretting it deeply, Young Master Tang began to conserve his use of hidden weapons; unfortunately, no matter how much he saved them, they would eventually run out. The worst part was that when he ran out of hidden weapons, he encountered a first-level speed-type Zombie that was much stronger than the initial ones. Young Master Tang was no match for two first-level Zombies; his last memory was being bitten by a Zombie—either being eaten or becoming a Zombie himself...
Young Master Tang raised his two hands; they were fair and slender with calluses on the fingertips from practicing hidden weapons. Are these hands? Not Zombie claws? I haven't turned into a Zombie? Young Master Tang was excited and confused!
"You’re awake? Are you hungry? Do you want something to eat? Or drink water?" A pleasant female voice came from beside him. Tang Minglang turned his head to look and then twisted his expression in shock, "You—what are you doing here?"
This woman was the root cause of his decline in status!
Bai Tang slapped Tang Minglang on the back of his head; for this disobedient young man with delusions of grandeur, sometimes one must take action when necessary.
"Is this your attitude towards your savior?"
"What savior?" Tang Minglang kicked at Bai Tang.
Bai Tang scoffed, "You were only bitten on the arm and leg by a Zombie, and you haven't lost your memory. Did you think the Zombie showed mercy and let you go while also curing you of the Zombie virus?"
"Did you really save me?" Tang Minglang believed it; since he hadn't died or turned into a Zombie, it must have been this woman who saved him. "Why did you save me?" He had offended her before.
"Shouldn't you express gratitude when someone saves you?"
"…Thank you!"
"At least you have some manners," Bai Tang jabbed at Tang Minglang, then explained, "The reason I saved you is simple: because you are human."
"That's the only reason?" Tang Minglang was astonished.
"Of course! Humanity is facing the threat of extinction. This is not the time for personal grudges; we should unite against a common enemy. The Zombies are our true foes. Your abilities are strong, and by saving you, we gain another ally in fighting the Zombies!"
"…" Tang Minglang fell silent for half a minute, then raised his head seriously and said to Bai Tang, "You’re right! I’ve offended you before; please don’t hold it against me!"
"How rare! Young Master Tang actually took the initiative to admit his mistakes!" A teasing voice came from the front seat. Tang Minglang looked up and saw two familiar "former enemies."
"What are you two doing here?" Tang Minglang pointed at Yuan Mingyi and exclaimed.
"Hey, hey, be polite to your savior," Yuan Mingyi smiled playfully at the young man in the rearview mirror.
"My savior is Bai Tang!" Young Master Tang exclaimed, wide-eyed.
Yuan Mingyi replied, "Without my help, how could Bai Tang kill two Level One Zombies by herself? So I count as your benefactor too. Come on, let me hear a 'thank you'!"
Young Master Tang struggled for a moment before finally squeezing out the words "thank you" through clenched teeth.
"Alright, from now on we're companions. Any past grievances should be put behind us. Let's work together to get back to S Province as soon as possible," Bai Tang said, acting as the mediator. Tang Minglang snorted but did not refute, while Yuan Mingyi responded with a cheerful agreement.
Since encountering a Level One Zombie once, the group found themselves facing one every few days. With Tang Minglang's long-range attacks added to their team, they found it much easier to take down Level One Zombies. After recovering from his self-inflicted injuries, Tang Minglang awakened his Gold Elemental Ability, allowing him to manipulate all metallic objects, which enhanced his skills with hidden weapons. Moreover, after awakening his Ability, Tang Minglang no longer had to worry about running out of hidden weapons; he could reshape other metallic items into the forms he desired.
The four of them gradually improved their combat abilities. Previously, it took two of them working together to kill a single Zombie, but after just over a week, each of them was able to take down a Level One Zombie on their own. They discovered that Level One Zombies contained Crystal Cores, and after studying these Cores for a while, they eventually found a way to absorb their energy. From then on, they divided the Crystal Cores equally among themselves. Tang Minglang and Yuan Mingyi absorbed the energy from the Crystal Cores, raising their Abilities to Level One. Bai Tang realized that her system could absorb the energy from the Crystal Cores to speed up its reboot process and fed all the Crystal Cores she obtained into it.
During this time, Survivor Bases sprang up like mushrooms after rain. Most were locally established and privately built bases that were poorly armed and defended. The government's response was swift; within seven days of the apocalypse beginning, a large Survivor Base centered around an Underground Base was established. However, due to the dangers along the way, many people preferred to stay in smaller bases closer to home rather than travel to the government's large base.
The four of them passed several small bases along their journey. Food, weapons, high-level combat capabilities, and defensive facilities... The future of these bases was concerning. Bai Tang and Yuan Mingyi approached the managers of these bases and urged them to relocate their people to the government's large base while there were still Level One Zombies around and before everyone evolved further. Some base managers gladly accepted their advice and decided to move their entire base; others were reluctant to give up their power and wanted to become local tyrants during this chaotic time, directly driving the four out of their bases. In response, Bai Tang and her companions could only sigh in frustration; they couldn't force the managers to relocate their people nor could they stay behind to help defend against Zombies. They could only look longingly at the main gate of the base before turning away.
"This damn heat is unbearable! Yuan Mingyi, can we find a shady spot to rest?" Tang Minglang panted like a dog. The heat was so intense that they were all struggling.
"With such blazing sun, where's there any shade?" Yuan Mingyi retorted irritably. The temperatures before the apocalypse were already outrageous; post-apocalypse, it had only gotten worse—now it seemed like temperatures exceeded forty-five degrees Celsius. Yuan Mingyi wiped his face; sweat poured down so heavily that it nearly blinded him.
"I'm about to roast!" Tang Minglang squinted at the glaring sun. "Master really isn't giving humanity any respite; with the Zombie Virus rampant and this abnormal heat... I fear many will die not at the hands of Zombies but under this scorching heat."
"There’s an upside to this heat; the Zombies are too sun-baked to want to come out and move around," Tian Yanran said while fanning herself with a magazine featuring a glamorous starlet who was both sexy and well-known. However, such beauties had now turned into hideous monsters after Tian Yanran had decapitated one earlier.
As they continued on their way, they passed by Hengdian World Studios. Bai Tang thought of Sheng Qingxi and Cao Xue and worriedly searched through the film city for them. The good news was that they found no trace of either person; the bad news was that many stars they liked had turned into Zombies. A few healthy individuals remained in the film city—mostly martial arts instructors and extras—but many stars who appeared glamorous had poor physical fitness and were among the first to become Zombies.
"Better to sun all these Zombies to death!" Tang Minglang said.
"Such good fortune is impossible!" Bai Tang poured cold water on the three of them, "Once the Zombies adapt to this kind of air, they might become even more powerful!"
Yuan Mingyi and Tang Minglang lamented, "They are going to wipe out humanity!"
"Save your energy for the fight! Otherwise, when you encounter Zombies, you won't have the strength to battle!" Tian Yanran scolded the two men. She flipped her hand and conjured two palm-sized ice blocks to give to Yuan Mingyi and Tang Minglang. "Use these ice blocks to cool down!"
"Thank you!" Tang Minglang quickly grabbed the ice block, pressed it against his face, and sighed in comfort, "Good thing we have an Ice Ability user among us. Not only can she provide us with water, but she can also help us cool down!"
Tian Yanran smiled and turned to ask Bai Tang, "Do you want a piece?"
"No, thanks." Bai Tang waved her hand in refusal. Her semi-digital body made her the most sensitive to temperature changes. "Staying calm naturally keeps me cool; I'm not that hot!"
Tian Yanran looked enviously at Bai Tang's slightly sweaty forehead and conjured an ice block for herself to cool down.
