Upon returning to Capital Star, Bai Tang discovered that it had changed significantly. Capital Star only had one city, and the vast forests and grasslands outside the city had mostly been transformed into farmland, growing various crops discovered by the Alliance on Ancient Earth. Golden rice ears, oranges, and rapeseed flowers, red tomatoes, radishes, chili peppers, and adzuki beans created a green symphony—what season could they not simulate with future technology? They could even easily control humidity, temperature, and soil acidity with an error margin of no more than one percent.
"How beautiful!" a young person exclaimed upon seeing the scenery on Blue Star from space. "I must become a farmer."
Bai Tang was taken aback. Before the Twenty-First Century, being a farmer was one of the most despised professions. Although later on, agricultural novels took over half of online literature and elevated the status of farmers somewhat, many city dwellers still looked down on rural people. However, times had changed; thousands of years later, being a farmer became a respected profession, second only to that of a chef. Becoming a landowner was the dream of many young people.
The surrounding passengers looked at the young person; some had encouraging expressions while others showed disdain, as if to say, "You think you can become a farmer?"
The young person felt their face flush and shouted, "What are you looking at? I am a student from Langborne University’s Horticulture Department. Why can't I become a farmer after graduation?"
Oh, so they were a professional; the passengers' gazes changed to envy as they looked at the young person, making them feel somewhat tipsy with pride.
Bai Tang chuckled to herself and withdrew her gaze as she walked out of the Observation Deck. She could still hear several young girls flirting with the young person.
Standing at the entrance of Huaxia Eatery and watching the crowd waiting outside for food, Bai Tang recalled her time working in the south. During holidays, she and her friends would go to restaurants only to find them packed. They would have to wait in the cold for other customers to finish eating before they could sit down. How nostalgic! Bai Tang thought about those days when she had just graduated and didn’t understand society well; she left her parents with nothing but enthusiasm to work in the south. Unfortunately, her first job was quite a setback. The boss was a decent person, but his wife was difficult to deal with—arrogant and temperamental—treating employees like servants. She ordered male employees to be her companions while shopping and demanded female employees clean her house. Bai Tang never did those things but was made responsible for her son’s homework. That brat was completely spoiled by his parents and wouldn’t listen to Bai Tang’s explanations; he did whatever he wanted. How could his grades improve? The boss's wife wouldn’t scold her son, so Bai Tang ended up getting fired. Thinking back on that incident still made Bai Tang feel nauseous.
"I need to find an opportunity to return to the south and give that mother-son duo a piece of my mind!" Bai Tang clenched her fist.
Her second job was better; unfortunately, the company didn’t provide meals or accommodation, so Bai Tang had to share a room with others—a five-square-meter space with just a bunk bed and a table with a chair. Cooking and heating water relied entirely on an electric rice cooker. Those days were truly tough! It wasn’t until she found her third job that her salary increased enough for her to afford a one-bedroom apartment and bring her parents down south for a visit.
"Sister, how may I assist you?" The doorman didn’t recognize his own boss and approached Bai Tang as she stood dazed at the entrance of the eatery, wanting to ensure she wasn’t blocking customers.
"I am the owner of this establishment," Bai Tang snapped back to reality and smiled as she revealed her identity. She was pleased with the doorman's attitude; business should prioritize harmony.
"The owner?" The doorman's eyes widened in disbelief—this mysterious and powerful owner turned out to be a young and beautiful woman? Given that both the chefs from this eatery and Huaxia Restaurant were apprentices of the owner, how could she look younger than both? The doorman felt excited; she had met the owner who smiled at her! Oh, she felt faint from excitement.
"Take me to the lounge and also call Thin Man over," Bai Tang instructed.
"Yes, please come in!" The doorman eagerly opened the Main Gate for Bai Tang as she walked into the eatery under the jealous gazes of many waiting customers outside.
"Are there really that many people outside?" Bai Tang asked.
"Yes, since the store opened this morning, there have been people lining up outside. Our store has to serve tens of thousands of customers every day," the doorman said proudly.
"You all have worked hard!" Bai Tang sincerely appreciated her employees. The success of her store was not due to her as a hands-off manager, but entirely thanks to these diligent workers.
The doorman smiled widely, feeling grateful. The boss is truly a good person!
Thin Man soon arrived in the lounge. He still had a blank expression, but his eyes softened considerably, filled with gratitude and respect for Bai Tang. Thin Man reported on the accounts from the past three years, and when Bai Tang heard that the restaurant's annual profit was close to one hundred million, her mouth fell open in disbelief. Thin Man understood Bai Tang's feelings; when he calculated the first year's profit, he was so shocked that he couldn't recover for a long time, as if it were a dream. Even more exaggerated was Fatty; he was in the business of wealthy clients, and Huaxia Restaurant's profits were double those of Huaxia Eatery.
Bai Tang took a deep breath: "You all did very well! In addition to your salaries, I will give Huaxia Eatery an additional five percent of the profits each year, and Fatty will receive two point five percent from Huaxia Restaurant. The remaining employees' salaries will all be doubled."
"Thank you, boss!" Thin Man said gratefully. Five percent of the profits amounted to five million Alliance Coins; he and Fatty had become wealthy men. Three years ago, they were struggling to survive, living in the sewers, and now they had money and respected social status. The change was so great that they often thought they were dreaming. They offered unwavering loyalty to the young woman who had given them everything.
"I just got a few new recipes; take them and study them well!" Bai Tang sent Thin Man the production methods for Noodle with Dots, Dry Pot, and several other dishes and noodles.
Thin Man eagerly opened his holographic device: "Water Steamed Bun, ingredients: three tablespoons Arrowroot Powder, two cups water, three tablespoons Potato Starch, one tablespoon Flour, four tablespoons Black Sugar Syrup. Method: Mix four tablespoons of black sugar with two tablespoons of Sugar in a pot and stir until the sugar melts into caramel. Then add two tablespoons of water and mix well to make Black Sugar Syrup for later use; first put Arrowroot Powder in a pot, mix with water, then add Katakuriko and Flour. Stir until dissolved and heat while stirring until it becomes a paste and is transparent. Pour into molds and smooth the surface with a spoon dipped in water; after cooling, remove from molds and finally drizzle with Black Sugar Syrup to complete Water Steamed Bun."
"Layered noodles..."
Seeing the recipes above made Thin Man itch with excitement; he couldn't wait to rush into the Kitchen to make these dishes.
Bai Tang noticed his eagerness: "You go back to the Kitchen; I will check on Huaxia Restaurant."
Thin Man happily escorted Bai Tang out of the eatery before running back to the Kitchen to prepare new dishes. Consequently, today’s diners were thrilled—new dishes! Delicious new dishes! Waitstaff, bring me three plates!
Bai Tang paused for a moment; it seemed someone was watching her. She released her Divine Sense and scanned half the city but found no one spying on her. Bai Tang frowned; there was only one possibility in this situation—the other party had locked onto her using satellites in space. They must have a significant identity. Damn it, I just returned to Capital Star; I shouldn't have offended anyone! Could it be someone coveting my restaurant?
Bai Tang opened the system map; there were no red dots indicating enemies on it, meaning the other party was not in Blue Star. This was troublesome; she couldn't even determine whether they were friend or foe. If they intended harm against her, she wasn't afraid for herself, but what about those around her? She didn't want Fatty, Thin Man, or any of her restaurant staff to be implicated. Although she could prepare them for defense, there’s no such thing as being able to guard against thieves forever. It was infuriating—whoever dared to target her, she cursed that person to get hit by a car while crossing the street or be struck by meteors while aboard a Starship or choke while drinking water or get food stuck in their throat...
In Interstellar, someone held a cup of water while watching the surveillance screen showing the woman; she looked so ordinary—such a frail figure that he could knock her down with one punch—how could she possibly be a strong person?
"Are you sure you haven't got the wrong person?"
"Eldest Son, it should be correct. We have checked everyone from Apollo, and her likelihood of being the one who sabotaged our plan is as high as eighty percent." A Bald Man respectfully reported to the man.
"Do you really think such a weak woman can pilot a Mecha? Does she even have a strength level of four?" The man scoffed, raising his cup to his lips for a sip of water. At that moment, Bai Tang noticed someone watching and looked up, coldly shooting a glare into the air. Her sharp gaze pierced through thousands of light-years and landed on the man, causing him to tremble and cough violently. Damn it, he choked on the water. How embarrassing!
"Eldest Son!" Bald Man exclaimed in shock, unsure how to react to the current situation. How could his Eldest Son be in such an awkward position? He wouldn't be silenced, would he?
The man quickly stopped coughing and shot a cold glance at Bald Man: "What did you just see?"
Bald Man lowered his head: "I didn't look up at all, so I didn't see anything."
"Good for you." The man turned his gaze back to the surveillance screen, where Bai Tang had entered a Hover Car. The exterior of the car had shielding properties, preventing him from seeing Bai Tang any longer.
"This woman is so perceptive that she could detect our surveillance. It seems she really is the one who sabotaged our plan." The man clasped his hands together, and the cup in his palms turned to powder, slipping through his fingers. "Hmph, how can I let her go unpunished for ruining my plan? Therefore, send Shadow Thirteen to bring me her head."
"Yes!" Bald Man quickly replied.
