Crispy Vegetable Roast Duck and Crispy Deboned Duck are both signature dishes of Piyifang. The Crispy Vegetable Roast Duck is similar to the floral-scented roast duck, but it substitutes the auxiliary ingredients with vegetables. Through a special process, ten types of vegetables are used to infuse flavor into the duck while reducing its fat content and increasing its protein content. When served, it is accompanied by young shungiku, radish sprouts, mint leaves, and leafy lettuce, making it delicious and refreshing, as well as nutritious, suitable for people of all ages.
Crispy Deboned Duck is another specialty of Piyifang. It is made by simmering seven types of Chinese medicinal herbs in broth and adding eleven seasonings. The authentic Beijing stuffed duck is marinated for several hours before being roasted until tender and then deep-fried until crispy. This dish features a delightful flavor, tender meat that naturally falls off the bone, resulting in a unique version of Beijing roast duck. It is reported that when developing the Crispy Deboned Duck, Piyifang specially hired nutrition experts to create an important recipe focusing on the health benefits of vegetables. The chefs then repeatedly adjusted the flavors and tested the cooking times and tenderness to perfect the dish. This Crispy Deboned Duck leaves diners with a lasting impression due to its unique taste that blends with the texture of Beijing roast duck, making it suitable for all ages and truly one-of-a-kind in Beijing.
The Radish Shredded Pancake is also delicious and nutritious; however, the three people at the table are all meat lovers, eagerly reaching for the plate filled with duck meat and skin. Only one person took a piece of the Radish Shredded Pancake to taste.
“It’s really good! Better than the roast duck I had at Quanjude in the provincial capital,” Bai Tang praised while enjoying his meal.
“Could anything I recommend be bad?” Tian Yuan said confidently, wiping his nose with his thumb. “When it comes to food, drink, and fun, I’m an expert. I can find delicious places in Beijing that aren’t famous but are incredibly tasty.”
“Then I’ll leave it to you!” Bai Tang’s eyes squinted with delight as his foodie nature was revealed in front of both.
“Count on me,” Tian Yuan patted his chest, feeling a sense of camaraderie with Bai Tang. “By the way, do you really know aliens?”
Biting his chopsticks, Bai Tang raised an eyebrow in response: “Do you think I’m lying?”
“Not at all!” Tian Yuan shook his head vigorously. “I just find it hard to imagine that aliens actually exist. Why do they only contact you? Don’t they have any plans to invade Earth?”
“You’ve watched too many movies!” Bai Tang’s mouth twitched. “They don’t want to start a war against Earth; do you think that’s unusual?”
“Of course not! But look at it this way: after discovering America in the fifteenth century, England couldn’t wait to turn it into their colony. Isn’t Earth like the backward America back then? Are aliens even more gentlemanly than the British?”
“The British occupied America because they discovered wealth and gold mines along with other resources there. But what does Earth have that aliens would look down on? It would be a waste of their manpower and resources.”
“Is Earth’s wealth so abundant that aliens would look down on it?”
"Rich in resources? Even if the Earth's resources were truly abundant in the past, the development of industry and society has consumed a vast amount of reserves of oil, coal, and metals. How much is left now? Sooner or later, everything will be exhausted. What will the inhabitants of Earth do then?" Bai Tang thought of the abandoned Earth in the future. "They will definitely seek out planets rich in resources suitable for human habitation to emigrate from here, abandoning our homeland, Earth."
"And with so many undeveloped uninhabited planets in the universe, why would aliens focus on an already over-exploited Earth? Even if their technology could easily defeat humans, the cost of occupying an uninhabited planet is still too high."
"..." Tian Yuan and Zhu Xu were silent for a while.
"Only now do I realize that the reason our Earth is safe is that the aliens disdain it!" Tian Yuan sighed as he looked up. "I don't know whether to cry or laugh."
"Just laugh! At least Earth is safe, and our lives won't change," Bai Tang replied with a smile. "Once Earth can leave the Solar System, we will have the qualifications to communicate with aliens."
"I hope that day comes soon; otherwise, it always feels like there's a sword of Damocles hanging over us," Tian Yuan sighed.
"Soon!" Zhu Xu said succinctly.
Bai Tang and Tian Yuan understood his meaning; the two items Bai Tang had handed over to the government could advance scientists' research by at least fifty to a hundred years.
"Come on, brother, let the bullets fly. In this life, who are we afraid of? The setting sun casts its glow; blood stains the monument. In our next life, we won't return drunk. Come on, brother, let's drink this cup; how many times can we live freely? Heroes have no regrets and face death without fear; let's live life to the fullest together..." As Zhu Xu's phone rang, he answered it. After listening for a few moments, his expression immediately turned serious.
"What happened?" Seeing Zhu Xu hang up, Tian Yuan quickly asked.
Zhu Xu's face darkened. "Li Yu is dead."
Tian Yuan's expression also fell. "How did he die so suddenly? Could it be that Zhang has returned?"
"I'm not sure. The body is still at the scene; we need to hurry over."
"Okay!" Tian Yuan turned to Bai Tang, looking apologetic. "I'm sorry, Bai Tang, but Lao Zhu and I have something urgent to handle, so we can't be your guide anymore."
Bai Tang smiled. "I understand. You two go ahead!"
Tian Yuan smiled gratefully, quickly settled the bill, and left with Zhu Xu.
Bai Tang waved over a waiter. "Twenty of the floral-scented roasted ducks in each flavor; fifty each of Vegetable Fragrant Crispy Duck and Crispy Bone-Removing Duck, all to go!"
The waiter was stunned, his mouth agape. It was common for out-of-towners to come to their shop for takeout roasted duck, but he had never seen an order this large before. How long would it take to eat that many ducks? Wouldn't they spoil?
Grumbling in his stomach, the waiter happily took the order. This was a big deal!
Miaofeng Mountain Scenic Area is located in the northern part of Miaofeng Mountain Town in the western Mentougou District of Beijing. Miaofeng Mountain is one of the famous "Eight Peaks" of Beijing, renowned for its "Golden Peak Temple Fair," which primarily worships Bixia Yuanjun at the Xiang Huo Jia Xia temple. Its unique temple fair folk culture makes it a birthplace of Chinese folk culture and a tourist destination that combines religious pilgrimage, folk customs, nature appreciation, health and leisure activities, flower and fruit sightseeing, mountain vacations, and summer retreats. The base of Miaofeng Mountain is spacious with fresh air and lush shrubs teeming with life. There are abundant woody plants and high-quality medicinal herbs, with various exotic flowers blooming throughout the seasons—mountain peach blossoms, wild lilacs, wild jasmine, azaleas, straw daisies, thousands of acres of roses, and thousands of acres of pear blossoms alternating in bloom—creating a unique scenery where "mountains surround on all sides like a painting, and flowers can be seen every day of the year." At the foot of the mountain lies Jiankou Village, crowned with the title of "One of North China's Wonders" for its thousands of acres of roses.
In the early morning, a young girl stood by the water, gazing into the distance. She was about five feet five inches tall with a tall and slender figure. Her skin was fair with a rosy glow, so tender it seemed she could squeeze water from it; her hands were as white as jade—long and delicate; her eyes were bright and lively, sparkling like pure skies; her demeanor was elegant and ethereal, resembling a spirit among the mountains or a fairy descended to earth. This girl was Bai Tang, who had come to visit Miaofeng Mountain. She had toured all the attractions in the city previously and planned to explore nearby scenic spots next. Miaofeng Mountain was her first stop; she arrived yesterday and rested overnight at Farmhouse Fun at the foot of the mountain.
Suddenly, Bai Tang's expression changed slightly as she twitched her nose. A gentle breeze from the water brought with it the unique coolness of morning air brushing against her face along with an imperceptible hint of blood. Of course, this did not escape Sister Bai's keen senses.
Indeed, it was a smell of blood—human blood. Bai Tang's expression shifted slightly; after thinking for a moment, although she disliked trouble, she wouldn't shy away since she had encountered it. She swiftly moved in the direction from which the smell came. However, before she could locate its source, a chilling scream echoed throughout the mountain area.
"There's been a murder!"
When Bai Tang arrived at the scene as quickly as possible, she was greeted by several terrified individuals—five Young People, three males and two females, who were also visiting Miaofeng Mountain. They had originally planned to hike up the mountain to see the clouds in the morning, but shortly after setting out, they stumbled upon a gruesome corpse. The three boys were somewhat better off, while the two girls were crying and vomiting, utterly devastated.
One after another, others arrived at the scene, all horrified by the sight of the body.
"Do not approach the corpse! Do not disturb the scene!" Bai Tang shouted to everyone, directing her attention to a middle-aged man holding a cellphone. "Call the police!"
"Oh, oh, okay!" The middle-aged man finally reacted and hurriedly dialed the emergency number, but his hands were shaking so badly that he pressed the wrong buttons several times. It took nearly half a minute before he successfully connected.
During this time, Bai Tang carefully observed the corpse. The deceased was a young woman in her twenties, clearly once a beautiful girl. It was shocking that someone so young had met such a tragic fate; her eyes had become two blood-red voids with her eyeballs stuffed into her mouth. Her limbs had been severed at the elbows and knees and were neatly placed beside her body.
The killer was calm! They even posed the body.
Bai Tang scanned the crowd, hoping to find any trace of the murderer. Unfortunately, perhaps the killer had already left or perhaps their psychological fortitude was too strong; she did not notice anything unusual.
The police arrived at the scene within ten minutes of being called. Two individuals who were too traumatized to provide statements were taken back to their hotel by a female officer, and they would be interviewed later once they had recovered somewhat. The three boys fared much better; after vomiting, they regained some composure and were able to answer the police's questions. Bai Tang was also questioned but since she was neither the first discoverer nor did she know the victim and had an alibi, the police only asked her a couple of questions before moving on.
Bai Tang then joined a group of onlookers, multitasking as she chatted with them while keeping an ear out for updates from the police.
