Bai Tang leaned against a pillar, her feet swinging beneath the beam. Having finished gnawing on a chicken leg, she savored a bowl of White Fungus and Lotus Seed soup. Below, the grand performance unfolded with excitement; the Second Prince revealed his ferocious demeanor, brandishing his knife to his brothers: the Third Prince, this pretentious bookworm, was rallying the scholars against him and could not be spared. "Scar your face, how can a disfigured person still be emperor?" The Eighth Prince was one of the dark hands that pulled the Second Prince down from his position as crown prince and was his main rival; how could he let the Eighth Prince off easily? With each stab into the Eighth Prince's body, blood gushed forth, soaking his clothes, yet he clung to life, refusing to die easily. At only sixteen years old, harboring ambitions for the throne and relying on the Kang Yuan Emperor's favor, the Fourteenth Prince jumped around, digging traps for his brothers, only to have his Achilles tendons severed by the Second Prince... The only ones who escaped unscathed were the low-key Fifth Prince, Seventh Prince, and Twelfth Prince; as for the Fourth Prince, he publicly supported the Second Prince, who would not act against him for now since he would need one or two brothers to maintain appearances after ascending to the throne and avoid being accused of fratricide like Yang Guang. The Second Prince left the Crown Prince for last; this person was his arch-nemesis and whom he hated most, so of course he would deal with him last using the cruelest methods. Overconfident, the Second Prince let down his guard and was stabbed in the chest by the Crown Prince at that very moment of triumph.
In shock—except for the Emperor—everyone watched as the Crown Prince, who had also drunk spiked wine and collapsed on the ground like them, stood up gracefully. Like a victor, he kicked the Second Prince, who lay like a dead dog, and walked toward the Emperor.
Both staging a coup against their father, Kang Yuan Emperor felt disappointment and anger toward the Second Prince but harbored murderous intent toward the Crown Prince. Although the Second Prince harmed his brothers, he at least left them alive; however, the Crown Prince showed no mercy in killing the Second Prince. His ruthlessness chilled Kang Yuan Emperor to the bone. If he truly handed over the throne to the Crown Prince, how many of his sons would survive? Despite being disappointed in the Second Prince, he was still his most beloved son; he had invested more effort in him than all his other sons combined. How could he not be heartbroken or furious at losing this son?
The Fourth Prince was in danger; while the Second Prince would not move against him, the Crown Prince had no feelings or concerns about abolishing him. The Crown Prince absolutely would not allow any potential threats to exist; it was best if all his brothers were dead.
The Fourth Prince calmly watched as the bloody knife in the Crown Prince's hand drew closer. With Bai Tang as such a capable bodyguard by his side, he felt no fear; after all, he was Bai Tang's partner and she wouldn't let anything happen to him. The Fourth Prince was confident that compared to the Crown Prince, Bai Tang would prefer him as her collaborator.
But it was destined that peace would not last for him. His eyes widened in shock as he saw a vividly golden five-clawed dragon fly out from Kang Yuan Emperor’s body. It swiped down at the knife in the Crown Prince's hand before soaring around above the Fourth Prince's head twice before returning to land atop Kang Yuan Emperor’s head and disappearing into him.
The True Dragon Heir! Everyone in the hall froze in place, including Kang Yuan Emperor himself. It has long been said that emperors are true dragons incarnate; thus True Dragon Heir is used as a title for emperors. However, that has always been just a legend; no one had ever truly seen such a mythical creature. But now hundreds witnessed this true dragon emerge from their own son’s body—this proved that their current son was indeed the True Dragon Heir under divine protection. And with this revelation came an understanding: if anyone should harm Fourth Prince after witnessing how brutally Second Prince harmed other princes and how Crown Prince killed Second Prince without intervention from this dragon—only when it came time to threaten Fourth Prince did it appear to protect him? In an instant, everyone’s gaze toward Fourth Prince changed.
After recovering from shock, Fourth Prince instinctively looked up at the ceiling and saw Bai Tang happily waving at him. He immediately understood that she had conjured that golden dragon. At that moment, Fourth Prince experienced a profound shift in mindset; although he had previously regarded Bai Tang as a partner while maintaining an air of superiority as High Master—despite fearing her strength—he had never wished to diminish his own status but rather interacted with her from a position of authority. The scene that just unfolded shattered Fourth Prince's perception: Bai Tang's abilities were no longer those of an ordinary person but rather those of a deity. Faced with such a divine being, all status became meaningless; Fourth Prince silently reflected on whether he had offended Bai Tang with any inappropriate words. Deities deserve reverence from mortals; Fourth Prince felt that lowering himself further was only right.
After regaining composure, Kang Yuan Emperor stood up from his dragon throne without showing any signs of weakness despite being drugged. As he rose, half of Crown Prince’s subordinates turned against him while another group of guards far outnumbering Crown Prince’s men emerged from hiding places. Thus began the official conclusion of this coup drama.
With nothing more to see, Bai Tang grabbed a handful of sunflower seeds and cracked them while blending into a group of ministers leaving the palace. The Fourth Prince remained behind with the Emperor; aside from Crown Prince, other princes were also kept within palace walls primarily for treatment—including Second Prince who still clung to life. Ultimately both Second and Eighth Princes were saved but with serious injuries: Second had internal injuries while Eighth lost too much blood; both became weak and would spend their remaining days reliant on medicine. The Emperor did not execute Crown Prince but instead demoted him to commoner status and confined him—a life without freedom ahead of him. His children’s fate depended on how future emperors felt about them.
Outside palace gates, Bai Tang encountered Jia family members. Unlike Jia She and Jia Zheng who were dazed after surviving calamity, Jia Zhen wore an expression of despair—he had invested in two princes only for both to fail! He wondered how Emperor would deal with those who supported them! Jia Zhen shivered at this thought; fortunately he hadn’t openly associated with either prince but now only Qin Keqing remained at home—a bombshell waiting to be dealt with? A ruthless look crossed Jia Zhen’s face but quickly faded when he thought about Qin Keqing’s vibrant beauty; desire surged within him instead. Forget it—few knew about Qin Keqing being an illegitimate daughter of deposed crown prince; even Emperor likely didn’t know so she probably wouldn’t bring trouble upon Ningguo Mansion. With this thought in mind, Jia Zhen relaxed and began plotting how to win Qin Keqing over.
Jia Zhu’s expression differed from those three; having prepared mentally beforehand she wasn’t frightened but still felt as though she had just dreamt something surreal. For that position familial ties within royalty seemed incredibly thin—but thankfully Fourth Prince remained unharmed and appeared poised to become next emperor. Jia Zhu couldn’t help but admire her uncle and master’s foresight while feeling grateful they brought her into Fourth Prince’s camp. Now that stunning golden dragon had shocked everyone—many would surely seek favor with Fourth Prince; aligning themselves with him now would yield different levels of trust compared to those who had already pledged allegiance before this event occurred. Jia Zhu glanced sideways at Jia Zhen feeling relieved she hadn’t listened to him—her cousin was recklessly rushing down a path toward destruction.
Jia Zhu looked up to see her master emerging dressed in guard attire—his relaxed demeanor and extraordinary presence seemed completely out of place in such clothing. She wanted to approach but saw Bai Tang shake her head before walking towards Lin Ruhai’s carriage.
"Brother Lin, may I hitch a ride with you?"
The curtain of the carriage was lifted, and Lin Ruhai and Jia Min's faces fell into Bai Tang's view. Jia Min looked pale, clearly frightened. She and a group of noblewomen had attended a banquet at the Empress Dowager's Cining Palace, where the Crown Prince and the Second Prince had disregarded them, only sending a team of guards to suppress them, so none of the women were harmed. However, even so, these women were terrified and had to be supported by their maids to leave the palace.
"Brother, get in the carriage quickly!"
Bai Tang smiled and said, "Sister-in-law is inside; I'll sit outside." With that, he turned and sat at the edge of the carriage.
Lin Ruhai draped a thin cloak over himself and stepped out of the carriage to sit beside Bai Tang.
"Did you come with the Fourth Prince?"
"That's right!"
Lin Ruhai pondered for a moment before finally asking, "Does what happened in the Golden Luan Hall have anything to do with you?"
Pride!
Lin Ruhai felt a chill in his heart, nodded, and no longer asked Bai Tang about the Golden Dragon. However, like the Fourth Prince, his attitude towards Bai Tang had changed.
"Young Master Bai..."
"Brother Lin should still call me 'Brother'! I don't want to become estranged from you over trivial matters!"
Is that trivial? The True Dragon has appeared! Yes, for someone like you who might be a 'divine being,' it may be trivial; for us ordinary mortals, it's a significant matter!
Lord Lin's psychological quality is very strong. After confirming that Bai Shenxian Tang is no different from before, he cheerfully exclaimed, "Brother!"
"Are you really a deity?"
"Sort of!" At least he is more powerful than those two real deities, Vast Sage and Miao Miao Zhen Ren.
Lin Ruhai let out a breath, "Are there really deities in this world? Besides you, are there other deities?"
Bai Tang smiled, "Yes. In fact, Brother Lin has quite a connection with deities; Lin Daiyu, your niece, is a fairy descended to the mortal realm."
"Lin Daiyu is a fairy?" Lin Ruhai exclaimed.
"Not just Lin Daiyu; the piece of jade from Jia Mansion is also from a deity, and there’s Qin Keqing from Ningguo Mansion, along with a group of girls from Jia Mansion."
Lin Ruhai found it hard to believe, "Why are there so many deities descending to the mortal realm?"
"Because of the selfishness of a certain deity," Bai Tang said with a mocking smile. "You wouldn't understand, so just pretend you know nothing!"
