He thought for a moment and then whispered to me, "This might be something left behind by a passenger. It could contain some information related to this train."
I carefully took out the notebook and opened the first page. Although the handwriting was somewhat faded, it was still barely legible.
"This is..." I exclaimed, my eyes widening in surprise.
Lu Yuanbai looked at me, his eyes filled with questions.
"What exactly is this?" he asked curiously.
I took a deep breath, trying to calm myself down.
"It seems to be... a diary that records some events related to this train," I replied.
A spark of excitement flickered in Lu Yuanbai's eyes as he tightly grasped my hand, his voice revealing a hint of eagerness.
"It looks like this is our chance; we need to quickly see what’s written inside."
In the pitch-black carriage, Lu Yuanbai and I stared eagerly at the notebook that might hold the secrets of the entire train. With no light around us, we were completely at a loss.
We had to finish reading this thing quickly and figure out what it contained, but our meager light was hardly enough for such a task.
I had no choice but to pull out my flashlight and focus its weak beam on the notebook.
Lu Yuanbai was right beside me, his eyes wide with tension, like a loyal bodyguard vigilantly watching our surroundings.
The flashlight's beam seemed particularly fragile in the chaotic environment, as if it could be swallowed by the darkness at any moment.
But this was our only lifeline right now.
As I flipped through the pages one by one, I suddenly noticed something strange. The words seemed to flicker in and out of visibility under the light.
I quickly adjusted the flashlight, and Lu Yuanbai leaned in closer, frowning as he looked at it.
"It seems that this is the only light that allows us to see clearly," he said.
I took a deep breath, trying to suppress my growing anxiety. If we relied solely on the flashlight to read the diary, we would truly be left in darkness.
In this pitch-black void where we couldn't see our hands in front of our faces, we might end up in serious trouble.
However, this diary might just be the only key for us to unlock the secrets of the train. Faced with such a dilemma, we both fell silent. The atmosphere in the carriage felt frozen, making it hard to breathe.
"How about we copy these words down first and then use the flashlight to read them later?" I suggested.
Lu Yuanbai interrupted me. "Don't you remember, Xiao Yangxia?" he whispered. "We saw in the newspaper that this train is cursed."
"We need to figure out what's going on." Lu Yuanbai turned around, facing the darkness. His shoulders were tense, muscles bulging under his T-shirt, ready to confront any potential danger.
"Hurry up and look, Xiao Yangxia," he urged. "We don't have much time."
I quickly scanned the words, my eyes desperately trying to catch every letter despite my shaking hands. The diary contained not only the history of this train but also important clues about that mysterious control center.
But as the writing became clearer, the atmosphere in the carriage grew increasingly eerie, as if something was lurking in the shadows, secretly watching us. I fought to suppress my fear and continued reading. The flashlight's beam began to flicker, alternating between bright and dim. My heart raced along with it.
