As soon as the car drove out of Villa Area, Leo immediately called Yao Guanghao. He intended to catch him off guard, but upon learning that Yao Guanghao was out on location today and that the makeup artist was Yu, the smile that had been hanging on his face slowly faded. "Oh, okay, never mind. It's been a while since I called, just checking in! You go ahead and do your thing!"
Leo awkwardly hung up the phone, and Oke stared at him wide-eyed, mumbling, "Auntie, Auntie!"
Leo chuckled, "Is this your Aunt Autumn Wind forcing you to say that? Come on, call for Daddy, call for Daddy!" He bumped his forehead against Oke's nose, making the child giggle uncontrollably and babble away.
Uncle Liu's voice came from the front, "Mr. Lei, where are we going now?"
Mr. Lei? "My last name is Xu!" Leo smiled lightly. "Let's go to the nearest service center!"
Uncle Liu felt a bit embarrassed and steadily headed toward the nearest destination.
He handed Oke over to Uncle Liu and entered the service center alone.
Without any hassle, Leo easily extracted the owner's name: a woman named Ren Ran. It was an unfamiliar name that Leo had never heard before. After thinking for a moment, he decided to tell Autumn Wind about it when he got home; if he mentioned it to her now, she would probably go on a wild search for this woman.
With a smile at the corners of his mouth, he walked towards Uncle Liu's car parked in the parking space when a bright voice rang out behind him, "Leo!"
Leo looked around and found that the owner of the voice was Liu Jian. He leaned out of the car window and waved vigorously at Leo.
After pondering for a moment, Leo took a deep breath and walked toward Liu Jian's car.
Liu Jian smiled as he opened the car door, gesturing for Leo to get in.
After a reluctant smile, Leo frowned as he sat down in the seat. Without waiting for Liu Jian to speak, he said, "I think if Autumn Wind knew where I am right now, she might kill me!" He had already gone through all the stories related to Autumn Wind last night and believed that as an outsider, Autumn Wind must hate Liu Jian intensely.
Liu Jian smiled bitterly, his throat trembling a few times, but the words still stuck in his throat, unable to come out.
"Did you need something from me?" Leo noticed Liu Jian's hesitation and asked.
Liu Jian swallowed hard a few times, "Um, could you pass a message to Autumn Wind? One of her old friends is getting out of prison next month..." He handed Leo an envelope, which contained all the records of the Li Gu case left for him by Qiu Mowen. According to the timeline, Li Gu would be released on the 10th of next month.
"Is this person important to Autumn Wind?" Leo pinched the envelope between his index and middle fingers, meeting Liu Jian's gaze. Liu Jian nodded affirmatively, so he continued, "Do you know him?"
"I know of him, but I've never met him!" Liu Jian replied honestly. "He has done a favor for Autumn Wind!"
A favor—this was a strange term. Leo let out a slight scoff, turning the envelope in his hand. "Alright, I'll pass it along..." His eyebrows raised as he asked if Liu Jian needed anything else.
Liu Jian gently shook his head, biting his lip hard enough to nearly draw blood. His voice choked again as he asked, "Do you really think there's no chance for me and her anymore?"
Leo placed his hand on the car door, about to push it open when he heard Liu Jian's question and was taken aback. "Chance?" He smiled faintly, withdrawing his hand and looking seriously into Liu Jian's eyes. "From what I know about Autumn Wind, given everything that has happened between you two, compared to Qiu Hai, your chances are almost zero! Sometimes persistence isn't a good thing! When a woman changes her heart, it's like spilled water; she will wash it away and evaporate it—she will never take it back!"
With that, he pushed the car door open and got out.
Leo's words deeply affected Liu Jian. He sat stiffly in the car seat, his gaze vacant and hollow. Was he really going to give up like this?
"Here you go!" Once home, Leo headed straight for Autumn Wind's room. He knocked on the door and handed her a note with "Ren Ran" written on it. Before she could say anything, Leo picked up Oke and walked toward his own room. "Oke is tired; we need to go to sleep!"
Leaning against the door frame and glancing at Leo's elegant back, Oke rested her face on his shoulder, her eyes slightly squinted with a calm expression. The wonder of blood ties might lie here; you may not have seen him many times, but once close enough, you just know he is someone you can rely on...
Unconsciously, Autumn Wind's hand brushed over her abdomen as sadness surged within her inexplicably. Before tears could fall, she retreated back into her room.
She moved a stool to sit by the window, staring blankly at the name "Ren Ran." It seemed like she had seen this name before, but when was it? Autumn Wind gazed at the window of Qiu Hai's room across from her, quietly pondering, yet she couldn't recall.
But she was certain she had seen this name. Who was she?
There was another knock at the door. "Can I come in?" It was Leo!
"Come in, the door is open!" Autumn Wind instinctively wanted to hide the note, but remembering that it was given to her by Leo, she relaxed and pressed it down with her phone on the table. Turning to look at Leo, she asked, "Aren't you with Oke? What happened?"
"He has already fallen asleep; I let Sister Liu put him in the crib!" As he spoke, Leo reached up to touch his nose.
Autumn Wind knew this was a sign of Leo's unease. Squinting at him, she smiled lightly and asked, "Do you need something?" Leo pinched his nose again and placed his hand under it. This made Autumn Wind even more certain and she raised her eyebrows at him, signaling him to speak.
Taking a deep breath, Leo finally lowered his hand and reached into his pocket, handing Autumn Wind the envelope that Liu Jian had given him. "This is from Liu Jian, he asked me to pass it to you..." he said with a troubled expression.
Autumn Wind glanced sideways at the envelope, showing her displeasure and having no intention of accepting it. You brought something from Liu Jian, handle it yourself and don’t bother me! She thought to herself. However, her attention was drawn to the writing on the envelope; it wasn't the usual traditional characters but simplified ones! This meant that the letter came from mainland China!
Realizing this, Autumn Wind took it. Leo's hesitant voice echoed in her ears again, "He is someone very important to you; he will be released next month!" Seeing that Autumn Wind was slowly opening the envelope and her earlier displeasure had faded, he switched to a more cheerful tone. "Do you have any relatives still in prison in mainland China? I've never heard you mention them!"
Without needing to read the contents, Autumn Wind already guessed that the envelope must be related to Li Gu. Opening it carefully and reading its contents confirmed her suspicion: next month, Li Gu would be released from prison. The date on the letter was two years ago, circled with a casual note beside it. Autumn Wind recognized it as Qiu Mowen’s handwriting.
This was a special instruction from Qiu Mowen to Liu Jian: two years later, you must accompany Autumn Wind to pick up Li Gu from prison.
Autumn Wind pursed her lips and slowly organized the envelope before looking up at Leo. She said softly, "I have no relatives in mainland China."
Her tone was calm, her expression indifferent, and her movements unhurried. This excessive composure and tranquility made Leo feel anxious but unwilling to be overwhelmed by this silence. He chuckled lightly, "Don't be so serious!" Noticing the note on the table, he quickly changed the subject. "Have you remembered who this Ren Ran is? She actually called you using a phone with a voice changer; it seems her hostility towards you is quite significant!"
Hearing Leo diverting his attention, Autumn Wind was also unwilling to dwell too much on the news Liu Jian brought through Leo. Finally, a look appeared on her face, and she pouted, "Yeah, I'm curious too. She was holding a telescope in one hand and using this phone to call me with the other..." As she spoke, she gestured animatedly, her face full of confusion.
"What did she say to you on the phone?" Leo watched Autumn Wind's performance with interest.
"She... she didn't say much!" Autumn Wind lied, almost desperately threatening herself. How could she tell Leo that the person had told her that Qiu Ruolan was the murderer of her parents? Who would believe that? She could even imagine Leo would probably poke her nose and laugh, saying, "Are you dreaming?"
I don't want him to laugh at me! With that thought, she raised her head, folded the note with Ren Ran's name on it, and stuffed it into an envelope. "Alright, alright, let's not talk about this topic anymore. When are you leaving Taipei? I mean, Qiu Hai has gone to the mainland recently; I hope you can wait for him to come back!"
"Wait for him to come back? Is he afraid I will take you away?" Hearing Autumn Wind mention Qiu Hai, Leo recalled his observations from last night. Perhaps he really wasn't Qiu Mowen. Qiu Mowen would never be so rude as to interrupt someone or show such a cold expression. He was always polite to outsiders, gentle and refined, charming and dashing—how could this guy who always liked to act cool like Qiu Hai compare?
Thinking of all of Qiu Mowen's merits made Leo question Autumn Wind's judgment. "Do you really think he resembles Qiu Mowen in any way?"
Autumn Wind chose to ignore the question; she didn't need to think about Qiu Mowen anymore. Pretending to be relaxed, she said, "Can we not talk about this topic? The sun is so nice outside; let's go out and enjoy it!"
With that, Autumn Wind turned and left the room. After a while, rhythmic footsteps echoed.
Feeling good? Laughing? At this moment, it was already misty outside, looking like it was going to rain. "Hey, are you out of your mind?" Leo shouted loudly as he followed Autumn Wind downstairs.
When Autumn Wind went downstairs, she realized it was foggy outside. Lost in thought, light rain had already begun to fall. Leaning against the door frame, she admired the rainy scene outside while Leo stood behind her with his hands on his hips, leaning against the other side of the doorway watching outside.
Silently, neither dared to break this tranquility.
Sister Liu rushed down from upstairs with Autumn Wind's phone in hand. "Sister! Sister! Your phone!"
Smiling lightly as she took it, Autumn Wind swiped open the phone and found it was Yu. "Hello? What's wrong?"
"I'm in an accident, there are so many people on the other side! What should I do?" Fish's voice came through, low and tearful.
"Where are you now? I'll come right over!" Autumn Wind replied without hesitation. Fish gave her location, "Please hurry!"
"Okay, I'm on my way!" Autumn Wind quickly put on her coat. "Uncle Liu, Uncle Liu!" After calling out his name, she regretted it; Uncle Liu had just gone out with Ah Wei.
What should she do now?
Leo understood what was happening and looked eager to help. Autumn Wind stared at him for a moment and asked, "Are you planning to come with me to rescue her?"
Leo nodded. Autumn Wind thought for a moment and said softly, "If you don't want her to get into deeper trouble, just stay quietly at home!"
Leo took a step back and replied, "Okay!"
Seeing Leo give such a clear answer, Autumn Wind didn't waste any more time. She grabbed an umbrella, rushed to the garage, and before starting the car, she picked up the phone and dialed a number: "Wait for me at the security room of the villa!"
