Leo smiled as he walked up to Autumn Wind, holding Oke in his arms. Oke waved at Autumn Wind, calling out, "Auntie, Auntie!"
Autumn Wind was surprised by the harmonious interaction between the father and son. After Oke called out several times, she finally reacted.
Qiu Hai stepped up behind Autumn Wind, wrapping his arms around her waist and softly asking, "Is this Leo?" After receiving a confirming nod from Autumn Wind, he extended his hand toward Leo with a sincere tone.
The sudden appearance of the man behind Autumn Wind startled Leo. From their interaction, he guessed the man's relationship with Autumn Wind. He held Oke with one arm and reached out to meet Qiu Hai's extended hand. As their eyes met, Leo couldn't help but shiver slightly; those eyes...
"Hello, I'm Qiu Hai. You can call me Kris!" Qiu Hai firmly shook Leo's hand while introducing himself.
Leo stared wide-eyed at Qiu Hai, his gaze scanning him intently. He held onto Qiu Hai's hand without letting go and said, "Hello, le!"
Seeing Leo so focused on Qiu Hai made Autumn Wind uneasy. Oh no, Leo, this isn't your type! She quickly tried to ease the situation, saying, "Oh dear, why is everyone just standing around?" With that, Autumn Wind pulled Qiu Hai's hand away from Leo and affectionately linked her arm with his, leading him toward the living room.
Uncle Liu and others had already placed Leo's luggage in the guest room. The four of them stood in two rows at the door to welcome Leo.
As Autumn Wind walked past the doorway with Qiu Hai's arm linked with hers, she deliberately glanced at Ahe. Just moments ago in the kitchen, Ahe had been busy, beads of sweat forming on his forehead, yet his face showed no expression—neither anger nor annoyance.
Fish took Oke from Leo's arms. She wanted to mimic Autumn Wind and link her arm with Leo's. However, as soon as her arm slipped through his, Leo quickly withdrew and stepped back, gesturing for Fish to go ahead.
Her hopes had plummeted instantly; Fish tightly hugged Oke and followed behind Autumn Wind.
Leo's gaze was sharp as it skipped over Fish and landed directly on Qiu Hai. The man's silhouette was strikingly similar to Qiu Mowen's; if not for the face, Leo would genuinely believe he was looking at Qiu Mowen.
Leo smiled foolishly; he hadn't expected Autumn Wind to find a substitute.
In the spacious and bright living room, Qiu Hai and Leo sat side by side on the same sofa while Fish and Autumn Wind sat on another sofa at right angles to them. Oke was in Fish's arms and was already dozing off but would open his eyes wide every time Leo spoke.
Autumn Wind waved over Sister Liu and instructed her to take Oke upstairs for a nap. Glancing sideways, she noticed Uncle Liu, Ahe, and Ah Wei standing straight at the door.
When they first entered the villa, Qiu Ruolan had set strict rules for the three of them. However, those rules had become quite loose under Autumn Wind's repeated violations as a so-called Young Lady. After being reprimanded by Qiu Hai just now, they had begun to strictly hold themselves accountable again.
"Hey, it's fine now. You all go rest!" Autumn Wind said to the three, but they remained still. Autumn Wind felt a bit annoyed and added, "I am the owner of this house! Just go down!"
The three exchanged glances and finally reached a consensus, bowing their heads and retreating.
Autumn Wind looked at Qiu Hai with pride, her eyes blinking to assert her ownership, while Qiu Hai met her gaze with a smile on his lips.
Leo observed Autumn Wind's bright demeanor, a side of her that had not appeared during his last visit when he came with Liu Jian. This kind of brightness only emerged when Grandma was alive and when Qiu Mowen was by her side.
Clearing his throat lightly, Leo asked, "What does Mr. Qiu do for a living?" He fixed his gaze on Qiu Hai, increasingly finding him reminiscent of Qiu Mowen.
"I work at HK," Qiu Hai replied softly.
"HK! I thought you were a plastic surgeon!" This joke fell flat, and Autumn Wind shot him a piercing look. Leo quickly tried to dig himself out of the hole he had created, forcing a laugh. "Just kidding! HK, that's the company Ervin used to work for. Are you colleagues?" As soon as he said it, he regretted it; wasn't he just pouring salt on Autumn Wind's wounds? His mind raced to change the topic, but it was too late; Qiu Hai had already begun to speak.
"Not exactly colleagues. I joined HK after he left!" Qiu Hai met Leo's slightly nervous gaze. The overly bright look in his eyes left Leo feeling flustered. He picked up the coffee that Sister Liu had just brought over and pretended to savor it nonchalantly.
"But we were high school classmates! We were very good friends. I will treat Autumn Wind well, just like Ervin!" He boldly met Leo's eyes.
To an outsider, this could be interpreted as Qiu Mowen's care for Autumn Wind. However, in front of Leo, who was the first to understand Autumn Wind's feelings, it felt like facing a formidable enemy. He accidentally sprayed all the coffee in his mouth onto Qiu Hai's suit.
Qiu Hai jumped up, and Autumn Wind quickly grabbed a tissue from the table, swiftly wiping the coffee off his suit while complaining, "What are you doing? You're already a father and still so reckless! Are you okay?" Brown stains dotted the light gray suit. "Oh no, it won't come off!"
Qiu Hai held Autumn Wind's hand and reassured her, "It's fine!" He tried to give Leo a smile.
"I'm really sorry!" Leo stood up, holding a tissue in his hand but only wiped the coffee from the corner of his mouth.
Qiu Hai's phone buzzed on the side. He released Autumn Wind's hand and pressed the answer button. "Oh, okay. Let Mr. Liu wait a moment; I'll be right back!" He looked at Autumn Wind and said, "There's something at the company; I have to head back for a bit..."
He turned to Leo and said, "I wanted to chat more, but it seems... how about this: I'll treat you tonight!" With that, he walked in front of Autumn Wind. Seeing her still staring at the stains on his suit, he smiled gently and kissed her forehead lightly. "Don't worry; I'll just go back and change clothes!"
He walked towards the Courtyard, but after taking a few steps, he stopped again, thinking carefully, and said to Autumn Wind, "We might need to hold a Board of Directors meeting; you should prepare for it!" With that, he stepped out of the living room.
Autumn Wind followed his gaze as she heard the voices of the servants led by Old Cheng welcoming Qiu Hai home from next door. Before long, Qiu Hai's car drove past the entrance.
Leo's eyes moved with Qiu Hai's car as it passed, and after a moment, he spoke up, "He's the chairman of HK?"
"How did you know?" Autumn Wind sighed and looked at Leo while patting Fish's arm with her hand, signaling Fish to move closer to Leo.
Fish nervously swallowed and moved less than five centimeters toward Leo.
Autumn Wind sat beside Fish and noticed how tense Fish was. She shifted her weight slightly to nudge Fish.
"That car is very expensive, globally limited edition. If he weren't wealthy, he couldn't afford it!" Leo offered his analysis. "By the way, what was that about his Board of Directors meeting just now?"
"Well! I really feel embarrassed to bring it up directly with you!" Autumn Wind nudged Fish with her arm. "You talk to him!" Autumn Wind believed this matter was gossip that Fish excelled at and intentionally gave Fish a chance to communicate with Leo.
However, any woman in front of her beloved man would reveal a shy side. The eloquent Fish stuttered instead, "Um, um, Autumn Wind is also a shareholder of HK now!"
With three consecutive "ums," Fish's face turned red. She stood up from the sofa, not daring to look at Autumn Wind or Leo. "I heard Oke crying; I’ll go check on her!" She dashed upstairs, her heels tapping rhythmically on the floor as they echoed in Autumn Wind's ears. Autumn Wind shrugged helplessly and looked at Leo.
"She still loves you; can you feel it?" Autumn Wind gazed into Leo's eyes. He was the only man in this world who dared to maintain eye contact with her for an extended period.
Leo avoided her gaze and answered Autumn Wind indirectly. "Let's continue our previous topic; how did you become a shareholder of HK... Ah, it wouldn't be Ervin, would it?" Leo had heard from Yao Guanghao about Qiu Mowen becoming an HK Shareholder and initially thought it was just a rumor; now it seemed true!
Autumn Wind nodded and calmly replied, "Not just me; even Liu Jian has quit being a lawyer; he's now the general manager of HK!" She let out a long sigh. "Isn't it exciting? Not only that, but Liu Jian and I are also engaged!"
"I know that!" Fish had told him over the phone before going to America. "So what about you two now..."
Autumn Wind spoke in a calm tone and continued, "We got engaged because I was pregnant; however, I've lost the baby now, so I've broken off the engagement!" She looked directly at Leo's face for his reaction—surprise, shock, anger, confusion!
"The child is gone... Ah, why didn't you tell me!" Leo shouted.
"She no longer hides my identity; I have a big star mom!" Autumn Wind added at last. "Were you scared?" Despite clearly seeing the fine sweat on Leo's face, Autumn Wind pretended to be calm and asked.
Leo nodded vigorously, "Yes, it felt like being struck by lightning!"
She squinted her eyes. "So I advise you not to realize how precious something is only after losing it!" She gently rubbed her abdomen. "That feeling is very painful, very painful!"
An infinite sadness began to spread throughout the living room, like rising sea water slowly reaching Autumn Wind's neck.
What was even more painful was that Leo liked to rub salt in others' wounds, and Autumn Wind understood Qiu Hai's interest in this very well. She slightly raised her head. "If you have any questions, just ask! Don't leave any regrets like a fish!"
Leo's smile was obvious. Good job, Autumn Wind; even though you know I like to rub salt in wounds, you still quietly stab me before I can act.
Leo smiled faintly. "Or do you understand me? I want to know if you are with Qiu Hai because he looks so much like Qiu Mowen!" Before Autumn Wind could respond, he changed his tone and said, "Indeed, it was because he looked too much like Qiu Mowen that I left Liu Jian!"
"Are you answering for me?" Leo's self-talk almost made Autumn Wind laugh out loud. She held back and pretended to be angry. "If you take the time to look through old newspapers, you'll know what happened. Don't be so clueless!"
