Autumn Wind never expected Jolie to do something like this, completely freezing in place.
Red wine slid down her hair and onto her face as she tightly closed her eyes, trembling all over, gripped by an unprecedented fear.
She wanted to speak, but found she didn't even have the strength to open her mouth; her whole body felt ensnared by a malevolent spirit, unable to move.
Jolie's cold laughter echoed in her ears, "You think you can compete with me, you spoiled rich girl? You're far from it!"
Autumn Wind felt a shadow pass over her head and instinctively shrank back, but the shadow did not descend. As she slightly opened her eyes, she saw Jolie's wrist caught in a large hand, held in the air, with a Cup in her grasp—she intended to smash the cup over Autumn Wind's head.
Qiu Hai approached Autumn Wind, one hand gripping Jolie, while the other gently held a tissue, slowly and softly wiping the red wine off her face.
Tears rolled down Autumn Wind's deep-set eyes, mixing with the wine on her calm yet pained face.
She snatched the tissue from Qiu Hai's hand and gently wiped away her tears. "I'm tired; I'm leaving!" she murmured softly.
Qiu Hai's hand fell away.
The crowd around them parted to make way for Autumn Wind, who walked out of Qiu Hai's house in a daze. Her silhouette appeared fragile against the night in Taipei, like a withered leaf about to be scattered by the autumn wind.
She couldn't understand why she always embarrassed herself in front of the man she liked; Qiu Mowen was no different!
Like a walking corpse, she stumbled into her courtyard, leaning against a tree. Suddenly feeling weak, she collapsed onto the ground, her hair soaked with red wine.
Her phone beside her buzzed loudly. She glanced at the caller ID—it was Huang Zihe.
Regaining her composure, she answered, "Hello."
A loud noise came through the receiver, but there was no sound from Huang Zihe. After waiting for a moment with still no response, Autumn Wind hung up.
In the living room, Qiu Ruolan was chatting with Fish. Oke had already fallen asleep and was being carried upstairs by Sister Liu. The music in the Qiu Mansion suddenly stopped. Frowning slightly, Qiu Ruolan got up to check the courtyard and stepped outside to find Autumn Wind despondently leaning against the tree.
"Autumn Wind, what's wrong?" Qiu Ruolan rushed to Autumn Wind's side, reaching out her hand to pull Autumn Wind up.
But what greeted her was Autumn Wind's lonely gaze and the forceful push of her hand. She noticed the smell of alcohol on Autumn Wind and the faint red liquid on her face. When she reached out again to touch her face, Autumn Wind dodged.
Autumn Wind stood up and stumbled into the villa, nearly falling into Yu's arms. She steadied herself by grabbing Yu's arm and headed straight upstairs.
As soon as she entered the room, she tore off her wine-stained clothes and jumped into the bathtub, tightly hugging her body.
She didn't turn on the water, realizing that the cold made her shiver before she reacted.
Meanwhile, outside the room, Qiu Ruolan's voice had become hoarse. Ever since Wang Ling hinted at Autumn Wind's possible true identity, Qiu Ruolan's love had begun to spread aimlessly, especially after learning that Autumn Wind had sought Wang Ling's help only to be bullied by Wang Jiaru and Jolie. Her guilt towards Autumn Wind grew even more intense.
The coldness made Autumn Wind quiet down. She jumped out of the bathtub, turned on the hot water, and with the sound of rushing water, steam began to fill the bathroom. Wrapping herself in a towel, she opened the door.
Yu and Qiu Ruolan rushed in almost simultaneously, each grabbing one of her arms, anxiously asking what had happened.
Autumn Wind said nothing and returned to the bathroom. The hot water was already ready; she submerged her body in the bathtub.
Yu and Qiu Ruolan stood by the bathtub like maids, watching as Autumn Wind splashed water onto herself bit by bit. That calmness was as if nothing had ever happened.
A deep voice came from the doorway, "Madam, Sister, Mr. Qiu Hai has arrived!"
Qiu Ruolan withdrew her gaze from Autumn Wind without saying a word and turned to leave; she needed to have a proper talk with Qiu Hai.
As soon as Qiu Ruolan left, Autumn Wind lifted her head and looked at Yu, who resembled a man. She spoke softly, "You still have work; you should go rest!"
Yu trembled her lips, wanting to say something but fearing it would be inappropriate. In the end, she chose to give up and turned to leave Autumn Wind's room.
Downstairs came Qiu Ruolan's loud roar. From Qiu Hai's intermittent responses, Yu understood that Autumn Wind had just been splashed with wine by Jolie and that Jolie had been kicked out of the Qiu family.
Even though she knew that Jolie had already been taught a lesson, Yu still found it hard to control her anger. If it weren't so late at night, she would have rushed out to beat Jolie up.
"I'm sorry, it's my fault! Autumn Wind got hurt!" Qiu Hai's low voice came after Qiu Ruolan's roar, sincere yet filled with guilt.
"Get away from here, Autumn Wind doesn't want to see you!" Qiu Ruolan's sharp voice rang out.
Yu guessed that Qiu Hai would respond coldly, but to her surprise, Qiu Hai remained silent. Soon, the door was opened, and the iron gate of the courtyard was pushed open—Qiu Hai obediently left the villa.
Shock was an understatement; Yu even speculated that something must have happened to shatter Qiu Hai's willpower, otherwise, how could he be so despondent?
Jolie certainly did not expect that a single drink would provoke such rage in Qiu Hai. Not only did he agree to invest in the trendy brand but he also declared that she was not allowed to step foot into his residence.
Even so, she felt that Qiu Hai was just putting on a show in front of everyone. She firmly believed that he wouldn't treat her this way.
However, the current Qiu Hai was no longer the same as before.
When Qiu Hai returned home, the guests were leaving one after another. The once lively banquet hall was now only occupied by the Maid busy cleaning up. Jolie leaned against a corner bench, casually lighting a cigarette, the slow smoke enveloping her seductive yet sinful face.
Qiu Hai's expression was grave as he scanned the banquet hall and spotted Jolie in the corner. He waved over Old Cheng, whispered something, and then turned to leave the hall, the indifferent moonlight casting over Qiu Hai's upright figure.
Old Cheng hurried over to Jolie. "Sister, it's getting late..."
Jolie thought Old Cheng was suggesting she take a break and turned her head. "I'm not tired!"
"No, sister, I mean should we leave now..."
What? Is he trying to chase me away? Jolie stood up and looked around for Qiu Hai, but there was no sign of him anywhere.
"Sister, please don't make this difficult for me..." Old Cheng bent slightly and gestured politely towards the door.
The cigarette butt was thrown on the ground, stomped on fiercely, and with a snort, Jolie walked out of the villa.
She got into her car, but after several attempts to start it, it just wouldn't ignite. Frustrated, she jumped out and kicked the tires to vent her anger. Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed the light coming from Liu Jian's villa and adjusted her makeup in the reflection of the car window.
Walking back to Liu Jian's front door, her emotions were no longer as intense. Imitating Autumn Wind's pitiful demeanor, she gently shook the iron gate. "Jae, I know you're home. I'm begging you to open the door. My car broke down, and my brother won't let me go home. Please, I'm begging you to let me in!"
Old Li was resting after serving Liu Jian when Jolie's pleading voice reached his ears. "Young Master, it's Sister Jolie!" He walked to the door and pulled back the curtain. "It seems like her car has broken down... Should we let her in?"
"Call her a cab!" Liu Jian's cold voice came from inside.
He remained motionless, his mind filled with memories of his time with Autumn Wind, thinking about her every smile and frown, reflecting on the pain he had caused her. It pierced his heart like needles. Was he really supposed to give up everything for her happiness?
Jolie's theatrics were reaching their peak. Just as she contemplated whether to drop the act and show her true self, a taxi pulled up behind her. The driver rolled down the window and leaned out. "Is this your ride, miss?"
My ride? It's Liu Jian's ride!!! Jolie realized this and glanced helplessly at the villa, knowing that even if she shouted until dawn, Liu Jian would never come out to see her. Disappointed, she climbed into the taxi.
"Miss, what’s your destination?" The driver's tone revealed no emotion.
"Take me to the nearest nightclub!" Jolie replied in a colder tone.
...
Huang Zihe sat in a private room at the nightclub, with bodyguards from his agency standing at the entrance alongside the club's designated "men in black."
Today, a big brother from Taiwan's entertainment industry had specifically invited Y() to "tour" Taipei's nightclub culture. This so-called "tour" was merely a way for him to save face; as soon as Y() appeared, the entire nightclub erupted with excitement. In the semi-open private room, various beautiful women flowed in and out continuously. Each person who entered would order a bottle of liquor; even though Y() and his companions didn't order anything, the table in front of their sofa was piled high with drinks.
Drinking, exchanging apps, taking photos, chatting—this had almost become a standardized process.
After another batch of female stars left, the big brother excused himself to go to the toilet and left the room. Y() had truly stolen his spotlight; he could no longer tolerate it.
The agent's phone rang, and he covered his ears as he left the private room.
Huang Zihe took a deep breath, pulled out his phone to check the time, and swiped the screen, only to find that he had unknowingly dialed Autumn Wind's number, and there had been a conversation lasting over a minute. The thought of Autumn Wind talking to a silent phone made him chuckle involuntarily.
As soon as Jolie entered the nightclub, her friend from Public Relations rushed up to her, saying, "You came today! Do you want to go over?" Although her voice was loud, it still sounded faint in the midst of the booming music.
Before Jolie could respond, Public Relations grabbed her hand and led her to the private room. Jolie immediately spotted Huang Zihe, who was looking down at his phone with a smile on his face.
What could be so happy? she wondered as she stepped into the room.
Everyone was secretly pleased that no one had come to disturb them when suddenly a woman in white appeared before them. The woman walked straight to Huang Zihe's side.
Although Jolie had met Autumn Wind a few times, whenever she appeared, Autumn Wind would also be around, so no one really recognized Jolie.
"Who are you?" Lin Xiang asked first, curious about why the "man in black" hadn't stopped this lone woman from entering.
Jolie smiled slightly but turned her face toward Huang Zihe, extending her long, fair hand toward him. "Hello? I'm Jolie. Liu Jian is my ex-boyfriend!"
Upon hearing Jolie's introduction, Huang Zihe realized something from the strange expression on her face that seemed both smiling and enigmatic.
