“Ling Zhu, run away!” Before she finished speaking, her legs went weak, and she collapsed to the ground. The overwhelming drowsiness was too much to bear, and in her daze, she only saw Ling Zhu turn to look at her before gradually closing her eyes.
She didn't expect the effect of the medicine given to her by the Wolf King to be so powerful. She quickly helped Xiang Xueer up and felt her steady breathing, which reassured her: “Fortunately, everyone just fainted!”
Ling Zhu felt guilty inside, but she thought that as long as she didn’t harm her friends' safety and only took away the Ancient Five Divine Artifacts, it was somewhat bearable for her.
She carefully stored away the Azure Wind Sword, Kongtong Seal, Fuxi Qin, and Shennong Ding, then looked at the soundly sleeping Fat Ancestor. With one hand, she lifted him up and turned to walk away.
After a while, she turned back to the few people lying on the ground asleep and apologetically said, “Friends, I’m sorry for what I did, so please don’t forgive me.”
Ling Zhu left. By the flickering campfire, only Xiang Xueer and the others remained unaware. It wasn’t until dawn of Vertical Sun that she was the first to open her eyes, the effects of the medicine having worn off.
“Ling Zhu!” Suddenly remembering they had been ambushed last night, she became worried about Ling Zhu. Upon opening her eyes, she found everyone else sleeping peacefully, but Ling Zhu and Fat Ancestor were nowhere to be seen.
What happened? Where did they go? Xiang Xueer quickly shook awake Qingtian and Gunaara. When they looked around, they were equally shocked: “What’s going on? Could it be that when we were knocked out, Ling Zhu and Fat Ancestor disappeared?”
At that moment, Gunaara noticed that both the Shennong Ding and Fuxi Qin were also missing. Panicking, he jumped up: “This is bad! The artifacts are gone!”
The artifacts are gone? Only then did Xiang Xueer remember something. She reached behind her and indeed found that the Azure Wind Sword had been stolen. Her Kongtong Seal, which she had hidden in her sleeve, was also missing.
Her mind buzzed with confusion. What was happening? All the Five Divine Artifacts were gone? And so was Ling Zhu? When did the enemy appear?
Suddenly, Qingtian’s expression darkened. She stared at Xiang Xueer for a long time. Although she found it hard to believe, there was really no other explanation: “Could it be that Ling Zhu stole the artifacts?”
“That’s impossible! Sister Ling Zhu wouldn’t do that!” Gunaara was the first to refute Qingtian’s suspicion. As Xiang Xueer recalled what happened last night, she replayed it in her mind several times, trying hard to find anything unusual.
Suddenly, her eyes swept over the rice bowl on the ground, and she picked it up to smell it in front of her nose. There was a faint strange odor coming from the bowl, which she hadn't paid much attention to while eating earlier because it was made by Ling Zhu herself, so she didn't suspect anything.
However, after a night of volatilization, she could vaguely smell the scent emanating from the bowl. She suddenly realized, "No wonder Ling Zhu has been acting strangely these past few days and speaking nonsensically. Has she been planning this all along? Is she waiting until we gather the Five Divine Artifacts before stealing them?"
During this time, Ling Zhu had shared life and death with her, and everyone had overlooked the harm she had caused in the past, accepting her gladly simply because she was also a woman persecuted by the Demon Lord.
Yet, Xiang Xueer had calculated everything but still misjudged the situation. She never expected that Ling Zhu had been lurking beside her all along, seemingly waiting for this moment. It pained her deeply; the person she trusted most turned out to be the one who betrayed her.
Gunaara saw Xiang Xueer's distress and kept quiet, not wanting to say anything more. Qingtian walked over to her side and patted her shoulder. "Shirley, stop thinking about it. Let's go after her right away; maybe she was forced into this?"
"Forced?" Xiang Xueer's forehead bulged with veins as she slammed her fist into the ground, instantly cracking the surface beneath her. "Even if that's the case, she should know that no matter what happens, we can discuss it together. This Ling Zhu is really driving me crazy!"
What angered her most was precisely this; they had known each other for so long and had gone through so many ups and downs together. Regardless of whether Ling Zhu had any grievances, if only she had spoken up, they could have figured out a solution together. Why betray a friend?
The group fell into deep thought, lowering their heads in silence. Duck finally woke up last, rubbing its eyes and humming, "Hmm, that was great! I slept really well!"
It hazily looked up at Xiang Xueer and the others, who were all sitting there without speaking. It turned its head to look around. "Hey? Where are Fat Master and Ling Zhu?"
As soon as Xiang Xueer heard Ling Zhu's name mentioned, her brows twitched slightly. Gunaara quickly leaned in closer. "Duck, don't say that; you really know how to hit a sore spot."
"Huh?" Duck was completely clueless about the situation and scratched its head while looking at Shirley's extremely grim expression. It swallowed hard and quickly shut its mouth. After a moment, it turned to Gunaara and asked hesitantly, "So, um, did I miss something again?"
Gunaara looked at Duck's innocent yet annoying expression and sighed helplessly. "People with water in their heads are much happier than we are!"
After everything was packed, the four of them prepared to continue their journey. Without the Ancient Five Divine Artifacts, they initially planned to look for Ling Zhu, but after a whole night had passed, they had no idea where she had gone.
Since they were still half a day's journey away from the Nether Abyss, they decided to head there first. Qingtian and Xiang Xueer finished packing their bags, and it was then that Duck heard about Ling Zhu from Gunaara, nearly dropping his jaw in shock.
"What? No way! Ling Zhu stole the Five Divine Artifacts? I mean, it just feels like something is missing!" Duck said, scratching his chin in confusion. "But I really don't think Ling Zhu would do something like that. Is there some kind of misunderstanding?"
Gunaara pulled him up onto the horse. "What misunderstanding could there be? The master said that last night, there was medicine mixed into the porridge, and only Ling Zhu didn't eat it. When we woke up this morning, the Five Divine Artifacts were gone. Who else could have taken them?"
Duck pouted and didn't say anything more. The four of them rode southward at a fast pace. Meanwhile, Ling Zhu was carrying Fat Ancestor on her shoulder and holding Shennong Ding in her hand, with Azure Wind Sword and Fuxi Qin strapped to her back. She had been walking all night with these items and finally arrived at the barrier in front of the Tropical Rainforest at Dagula Mountain.
At that moment, a Little Demon emerged from behind a stone wall next to the barrier. Upon seeing Ling Zhu carrying the Ancient Five Divine Artifacts, he immediately said, "Ling Zhu, the Demon Lord has been waiting for you here for quite some time."
"Huh?" Ling Zhu looked at the unfamiliar Little Demon and asked, "Where is Wolf King? Why isn't he here?"
"Wolf General and Fire Rat General have other matters to attend to, so they sent me to wait for you!" As he spoke, he lightly tapped three times on the barrier with his hand. The barrier seemed to have eyes as it immediately opened a passageway, allowing them to enter one after another.
Once again entering the dim Cavern, the Demon Lord was still seated on his dragon chair, sipping tea while looking up at Ling Zhu as she walked in. Upon seeing the Five Divine Artifacts on her, a satisfied smile appeared on his face.
He immediately stood up and walked toward her. Ling Zhu set Fat Ancestor down from her shoulder and looked up at the Demon Lord. "Demon Lord, I've brought everything you wanted. Where is my husband? Hurry up and release him!"
The Demon Lord slowly approached Ling Zhu and patted her shoulder. "Hey, don't be anxious. I will fulfill my promise; your husband will definitely be returned to you. However, I still need you to do one more thing."
