"No!" Ling Zhu cried out as she woke from her dream, startling Duck, who was sleeping beside her. He sat up quickly, turned to look at Ling Zhu, and then fell back down with a thud, mumbling, "Li Yunyang, you Dead Blackie, that roasted chicken is mine!"
Sighing deeply, Ling Zhu realized it was just a nightmare. She reached up to wipe the sweat from her forehead, but the dream had felt so real, as if it had just happened.
She lay there for a long time, unable to calm her racing heart. Every time she closed her eyes, she could hear her husband's cries for help before his death.
Xiang Xueer heard the commotion from earlier in the temple and turned back to check on Ling Zhu. Seeing her lying there with a serious expression, she hurried over and asked, "What's wrong? You look unwell. Are you feeling sick?"
Ling Zhu hesitated for a moment before standing up. "It's nothing. I just can't sleep right now. Shirley, how about I take your shift and patrol outside?"
"It's fine! I can do it!" Xiang Xueer replied, but Ling Zhu patted her shoulder and said, "You've fought all day and now need to patrol at night. I'm not sleeping anyway; I'll take your place. Don't worry!"
"Alright then. Qingtian is over by the back door; stay safe!" Xiang Xueer was indeed feeling tired and quickly fell asleep as soon as she lay down. Ling Zhu stepped out of the Ruined Temple and stood alone, gazing at the stars in the sky.
She and her husband were once like two fruits growing from the same vine; they were of one root. If it weren't for that Heart Demon taking him away and threatening her with his name, she would never have served it.
Now that her husband was gone, if not for these friends, she would have lost all attachment to this world long ago. As Ling Zhu thought of this, tears streamed down her face uncontrollably.
Suddenly, a cold wind brushed past her. Behind the trees across from her, a shadowy figure appeared again. She immediately became alert, standing up and whispering, "Who’s there? Who's hiding?"
A tall figure stepped out from the darkness. When Ling Zhu focused her eyes, she realized it was the Wolf King. This guy had shown up again—was it because of their previous agreement?
The Wolf King quickly noticed the tears in Ling Zhu's eyes and revealed his menacing fangs. "So? Have you thought about what we agreed upon before?"
Ling Zhu gritted her teeth and clenched her fists tightly. She glanced back at her sleeping companions in the Ruined Temple and said firmly, "Wolf King, I think I've made myself very clear before. Don't even think about it; get lost!"
Wolf King squinted at Ling Zhu's righteous expression and chuckled softly, "Ah, it seems you still don't believe what I say. Since that's the case, I will break my promise today and let you see your husband, how about that?"
What? Ling Zhu widened her eyes in shock. She couldn't have heard him wrong; how could the ruthless Heart Demon possibly spare her husband's life? But this Wolf King just said he would let her see her husband.
Ling Zhu was immediately shaken. Her earlier righteous demeanor crumbled in an instant. She glared at Wolf King's strange smile and angrily pointed at his nose, "You can't fool me! My husband has long been dead!"
"Oh? Since you don't believe me, there's nothing I can do!" Wolf King turned and walked toward the darkness, then suddenly stopped. "Whether you come or not is up to you!"
As he spoke, he entered the forest. Ling Zhu swallowed hard, her heart twisted in knots. The Wolf King didn't need to put on a show to deceive her. If that was the case, she might as well follow him to see for herself and put her mind at ease.
With gritted teeth, Ling Zhu glanced back at the few people inside who were quietly asleep and decided to follow Wolf King, wanting to find out the truth regardless of whether it was real or not.
Qingtian looked up and saw a black object moving quickly across the sky, immediately alerting him. He gazed upward for a while but saw that the black object had already moved far away. Knowing that Xiang Xueer was guarding ahead, he didn't disturb anyone.
Meanwhile, following Wolf King, Ling Zhu was led to the Dagu La Mountain Range's Tropical Rainforest in less than half an hour. She turned to look around cautiously and asked, "What are you bringing me here for?"
"What are you so nervous about? Don't worry; you'll see your husband soon!" Wolf King replied, turning to face forward and reaching out to touch the air before him. Suddenly, layers of colorful ripples began to spread around his arm.
Ling Zhu frowned; there was actually a barrier set up here. What kind of place was this? Wolf King spread his arms and gently tapped three times on the barrier. Immediately, the colorful barrier seemed to open its mouth wide and split open a huge gap.
Seeing this, Wolf King stepped into the barrier, and Ling Zhu hurriedly followed him inside. The two walked one after the other through the darkness until they soon came upon a massive cave entrance.
This was indeed a well-concealed spot. Despite being a cave behind a barrier, she turned to look back at a conical surface suspended between two distant mountain ranges, which puzzled her greatly.
How could such a large surface appear nearby? She squinted upward and was suddenly struck by a massive stone wall above her. What? Nether Abyss?
Is this the place where Qingtian mentioned that his father discovered the hiding spot of the Million Demon Lord before he died? I never expected it to appear here.
She felt a mix of anxiety and fear; how could this Wolf King bring her here without worrying about what she might see? Would she tell others when she returned? Or did he already have absolute confidence in his victory?
"Let's go!" The Wolf King was already standing at the entrance of the cave. Ling Zhu quickly withdrew her gaze, calmed her emotions, and followed him into the dark, deep cave.
The further they walked inside, the more spacious the cave became. In the distance, she could see a figure sitting on a tall dragon throne, seemingly waiting for their arrival.
As Ling Zhu approached and focused her eyes, she was nearly paralyzed with fear; the person on the dragon throne was none other than the Demon Lord who had died under Feng Qingyang's sword that day!
It seemed that Wolf King was indeed correct; the Demon Lord was truly immortal. His pair of Red Eyes gazed at the two approaching him, and just being near him made her hair stand on end from his overwhelming magical power. She was unable to move, and with just one glance from him, she fell to her knees with a thud.
The Wolf King knelt on one knee and lowered his head to report, "Demon Lord, I have brought Ling Zhu!"
"Mm!" The Demon Lord looked down at Ling Zhu beside the Wolf King, then waved his hand: "You may all rise!"
Ling Zhu trembled as she stood up, filled with regret; had she known it would be like this, she wouldn't have come. Now it was clear that the Demon Lord was right here in their lair. If she dared to say 'no' today, this demon would surely turn her to ashes.
Before the Demon Lord could speak, the Wolf King glanced sideways at the terrified Ling Zhu, then sneered and turned to say, "Demon Lord, Ling Zhu has agreed to pledge allegiance to our Demon Army, willing to submit to you. However, she wishes to see her husband first for reassurance."
"Oh? In that case, it is permissible for you two to meet." The red pupils of the Demon Lord flickered. After speaking, he waved his hand, and two Little Demons emerged from behind with a disheveled man in tow.
