Inside Spirit Hall, Lan Ran Qingtian lit three incense sticks and knelt before his father's coffin, bowing three times. "Father, in order to find out the true murderer who killed you, I have decided to open the coffin and examine the body today. Please do not blame your son from the heavens!"
Xiang Xueer stood nearby, surprised that Lan Ran Qingtian would agree with her idea. She stepped forward, lit three incense sticks as well, and walked to Qingtian's side. "Uncle Blue Dye, I know this act is greatly disrespectful to you, but you must also wish for us to find the murderer. We will do our utmost; please rest in peace!"
Lan Ran Qingtian stood up and glanced at Xiang Xueer. "I have already apologized to my father. You can proceed, Shirley; I believe in you!"
"Mm!" Xiang Xueer nodded, and several servants brought out various tools to pry open the Redwood Coffin. With a loud creak, the heavy coffin was opened, revealing the body of Azure Wind Sword One before everyone.
Several coroners from nearby were invited to place the body in a vacant room. Xiang Xueer covered the mouth and nose with a white cloth and entered the makeshift autopsy room with Lian Cheng Xue.
"What’s going on? Have there been any findings?" Xiang Xueer approached the body and watched as one of the coroners examined it. He pointed to several wounds on the body and said, "This person has numerous scars all over; these are clearly fresh wounds. It seems he went through a very fierce battle before his death."
"Mm!" Xiang Xueer nodded. The Azure Wind Sword One had more than just a few scars; it was evident that he had been tempered through countless battles to attain his position as a Saint Ten level expert.
"The fatal wound must be here!" Xiang Xueer looked at the bowl-sized wound on his chest, which directly pierced his heart. The wound was very neat, indicating that the opponent struck quickly and ruthlessly without hesitation.
"You are correct; this is indeed a fatal wound," the coroner said after examining it for a while but then shook his head in confusion. "However, I find it strange that someone as skilled as Azure Wind Sword One could be injured from the front; it’s hard not to feel puzzled!"
Xiang Xueer turned to look at Lan Ran Qingtian and suddenly lunged toward his chest. Qingtian was startled and quickly grabbed her hand. "Shirley, what are you doing?"
Xiang Xueer stared at her hand being held tightly. "It's strange; even if I suddenly attacked you, you were still able to react and grab my hand. But your father was much more powerful than you; how could he not evade this strike?"
Indeed, Qingtian found it hard to understand Xiang Xueer's explanation as she leaned down closely examining the wounds on the body. She asked, "Coroner, do you think this wound could have been made by a demon?"
"A demon?" The coroner pressed his bone knife against the wound for a long time. "It doesn’t look like it at all. This wound appears to have been made by a hand directly thrust into the chest; if it were a demon, there would definitely be traces left behind like claws or other signs!"
There were no claw marks or any hair or scales left by demons; it was indeed strange. Xiang Xueer sighed after examining for quite some time without finding any reliable clues.
Coroner dressed Azure Wind Sword One and began to tidy up the tools. He concluded, "The fatal wound on the chest was caused by someone stabbing directly into the heart."
Hmph, ancient times are really troublesome. If only we were back in modern times, a DNA test would immediately reveal who the murderer is. She turned around helplessly, preparing to leave when suddenly, Azure Wind Sword One's arm, which was resting on the edge of the bed, slipped and fell against her leg.
"Mm?" Xiang Xueer immediately stopped in her tracks and turned to look. She saw that Azure Wind Sword One's right hand was tightly clenched, and from between his fingers, a hint of white could be seen.
Seeing her expression change, Lan Ran Qingtian also halted and quickly asked, "Shirley, what's wrong?"
"Look!" Xiang Xueer pointed at Azure Wind Sword One's hand and hurriedly bent down to take a closer look. "Qingtian, it seems like your father is holding something!"
Qingtian focused his gaze and quickly pried open his father's hand to reveal a small broken white fragment that he had been gripping tightly. What on earth is this thing that he held onto so fiercely?
Xiang Xueer stroked her chin thoughtfully as she examined the object in Qingtian's hand. "Something that one would hold onto tightly even in death—could this be the legendary item taken from a murderer?"
After leaving the coroner's room, several people continued to stare at the small fragment without end. "What is this thing? It doesn't seem like something people usually carry!"
Everyone was at a loss. Although they still couldn't determine the origin of this object, they finally had some new developments. Xiang Xueer recalled what Coroner had said earlier: this wound was not inflicted by a demon. But if it wasn't a demon, then who killed Azure Wind Sword One?
At that moment, a figure walked in from outside. The few people sitting next to Spirit Hall turned to see that it was none other than Saint Ten's second-in-command: Gu Liu Ma.
Gu Liu Ma? This guy actually showed up. Xiang Xueer frowned slightly and quickly said, "My current identity is quite awkward, so it's better for me to avoid him for now!"
"Yes, that's right!" Ling Zhu immediately nodded in agreement. Thus, the group hid behind a side door next to Spirit Hall, peering out through the lattice.
Seeing Gu Liu Ma, Ling Zhu felt an inexplicable sense of fear. For some reason, she always sensed an uncontrollable aura of darkness emanating from this man.
"What's wrong with you? Ling Zhu?" Xiang Xueer turned her head to see Ling Zhu's strange expression. It seemed these two had never interacted much before, so she quietly asked.
"There's nothing much, I just don't have a good impression of that person!" Ling Zhu shook her head. "I can't explain it, but every time I see her, I feel all the hair on my body stand up!"
"Gu Senior!" Lan Ran Qingtian quickly walked over, looking sorrowful as he patted Qingtian's shoulder. "Qingtian, I've been so busy these past few days tracking down the whereabouts of the Demon Army that I haven't had time to come here to pay respects to your father."
Qingtian was very touched and stepped aside to light three sticks of incense, handing them to him. "Thank you, Gu Senior. If my father knew you came, he would definitely feel comforted!"
After Gu Liu Ma lit three sticks of incense, his eyes kept staring at the red coffin. After a while, he said, "Qingtian, I'm planning to stay in town for a few days. Do you know which inn is better?"
Gu Liu Ma had once helped Xiang Xueer and had fought alongside Lan Ran Qingtian, so they had a deep bond. He quickly added, "Since Gu Senior is staying for a few days, why bother staying at an inn? I'll have someone tidy up the guest room in the backyard; you can stay at my home. How does that sound?"
Seeing his generous offer, Gu Liu Ma didn't refuse and nodded in agreement. "Since you're so hospitable, I won't impose too much. I hope it won't affect your mourning."
"It won't; Gu Senior can stay as you wish!" Qingtian said before immediately instructing the Housekeeper to take Gu Liu Ma to the backyard. Once he left, Xiang Xueer and the others finally came out from the side door.
"This strange fellow actually wants to stay here; he can't be planning something bad, can he?" Ling Zhu disliked Gu Liu Ma the most. Xiang Xueer quickly comforted her. "Alright, I know you don't like him, but he saved my life before. Since he wants to stay here, we can't just refuse him!"
"Yeah, I don't like this person either!" Gunaara pouted and huffed. Duck immediately rolled her eyes at her. "No one asked for your opinion; although I don't like him either."
Fat Ancestor took a deep breath and pulled Shirley aside, asking quietly, "Shirley, how long do you plan to stay here? After all, we have other matters to attend to!"
Time: December 12th. There were only about ten days left until the Hexagram that the Demon Lord mentioned would be completed. Xiang Xueer could not forget such an important matter, but they still hadn't found that million Strategists belonging to the Demon Lord. Now that Qingtian was in trouble, how could she stand by idly?
