"Ah!" Gunaara suddenly let out a sharp scream and fell to the ground, feeling a severe pain in her ankle. Looking down, she realized she had tripped over a tree root that was protruding from the ground, causing her to fall.
"It hurts so much!" She covered her foot, tears welling up in her eyes. Lian Cheng Xue heard the sound and quickly turned around to check. Upon seeing her on the ground, he hurried over and asked, "What happened? Did you fall?"
"Yes, my foot hurts a lot." Gunaara kept holding her ankle, beads of sweat forming on her forehead. Lian Cheng Xue slowly pulled her foot out from the tangled tree root. As soon as he touched it, she cried out in pain.
He hesitated for a moment, then took off Gunaara's boot. Even through the white sock, it was clear that her ankle was swollen. Lian Cheng Xue frowned and said, "It looks like you've sprained your ankle!"
He took out a small bottle from his waist, which contained some medicine he always carried with him. Gently, he removed her sock, revealing a pale foot that was red and swollen at the sprain. Gunaara bit her lip, enduring the pain as he finally applied the medicine to his hand.
"This medicine can only temporarily relieve your pain. There are no doctors around, and Shirley is not here either. What are we going to do?" Lian Cheng Xue was worried; not only were they lost, but Gunaara was also injured. From the looks of it, she wouldn't be able to walk.
Gunaara tried to stand up, but as soon as her foot touched the ground, the pain made it impossible for her to stand, let alone walk. She turned to Lian Cheng Xue with an expression of shame and said, "Why don't you go up the mountain first? Wait until you find Shirley and the others before coming back for me!"
"That won't do!" Lian Cheng Xue immediately rejected her idea. "This is a desolate mountain area with no signs of people around. It's almost nightfall; if we encounter any monsters, how can you handle it alone?"
"What should we do then? We can't both stay here! Shirley and the others must be waiting for you to help them!" Although Gunaara was scared, she reminded herself that she was a descendant of the Nüwa clan; how could she be afraid of monsters at this time?
Even though he didn't have much of a relationship with Gunaara, Lian Cheng Xue would never leave a companion behind. He steeled himself and squatted down. "Get on my back; I'll carry you!"
Carry me? Gunaara looked at his broad shoulders and felt her face flush red instantly. In ancient times, men and women were not supposed to have physical contact; just brushing against each other was considered taboo, let alone being carried.
"This... I'm really heavy. I think I should just walk by myself!" Gunaara hopped on one leg a few times; although she didn't touch her foot down, just doing that nearly brought tears to her eyes from the pain.
This girl is still trying to be strong at this moment; her stubbornness reminded him somewhat of Xiang Xueer. Lian Cheng Xue shook his head and bent down to pull her hand onto his shoulder. With one swift motion, he lifted her onto his back. "Alright, stop being stubborn; I'll carry you!"
Gunaara was suddenly picked up by Lian Cheng Xue, almost losing her balance. She quickly wrapped her arms tightly around his neck, a unique masculine scent wafting into her nose, mixed with a faint Soap Pod fragrance in his hair, which smelled really good.
She suddenly felt her heart racing. What was happening? Why was she having such wild thoughts? He was just carrying her because she was inconvenient to move on her own. She quickly shook her head, muttering to herself, "Don't think too much, don't think too much."
Lian Cheng Xue turned his head to look at her and asked in confusion, "What are you mumbling about?"
"Nothing, nothing!" Gunaara lowered her head as the sky grew darker and the sun gradually set. The two of them made their way back up the mountain, stepping carefully.
At that moment, Xiang Xueer had finally grown impatient, frowning and grumbling, "What's going on? Why haven't those guys come up yet? It's getting dark!"
Xiang Xueer felt like cursing her father. Ling Zhu and Fat Ancestor standing beside her also found it strange. "Yeah, they should have crawled up by now."
The group stood at the entrance of the temple, peering down below when suddenly, from a distance, they heard the unfortunate Duck's cries: "Big sister, it's bad! Something big has happened! The sky is falling!"
"Duck?" Upon hearing its frantic cries, Xiang Xueer felt an ominous premonition rise within her. She quickly hurried down the stairs, followed closely by Ling Zhu and Fat Ancestor.
Duck was frantically running up the steep stairs. When it became too exhausted to run, it simply crawled on all fours. As a result, it crashed right into Xiang Xueer's thigh. Looking up at her with tears and snot streaming down its face, it exclaimed, "Big sister! I finally found you! Boohoo!"
"Huh?" Xiang Xueer glanced behind Duck and found it strange that only it had come up; where were Li Yunyang, Lian Cheng Xue, and Gunaara?
She quickly lifted Duck off the ground and began to question it urgently: "What happened? Why are you the only one who came up? Where are the others?"
"Boohoo!" Duck sniffled a few times before leaping onto Xiang Xueer's chest and rubbing against her. "Big sister! It's bad! Something big has happened!"
Xiang Xueer could no longer hold back and directly pulled the Duck up from her body, delivering a heavy punch to its forehead: "Die, Duck! If you cry again, I'll castrate you. Get to the point!"
The Duck let out a miserable cry, covering the large bump on its forehead, and then it finally explained the whole situation clearly. Hearing this, several people’s faces immediately darkened.
"What? The Shennong Ding was taken by the Fire Rat?" Ling Zhu was so shocked that his eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. "What is wrong with you all? Four able-bodied people couldn't guard a Shennong Ding and it was easily snatched away by that Fire Rat!"
"Exactly!" Fat Ancestor sighed while angrily scolding, "Knowing how important this is, you still didn't pay any attention. I really have no way to deal with you all!"
Seeing that even Fat Ancestor was furious, the Duck simply pushed the blame onto Li Yunyang: "It's not my fault! That idiot Li Yunyang bullied me, which gave the Fire Rat an opportunity!"
Xiang Xueer furrowed her brows. Even if Li Yunyang and Lian Cheng Xue were there, they might not be able to defeat the Fire Rat. The outcome would have been the same. She didn't say much and looked into the distance, asking, "Where's Li Yunyang?"
The Duck pouted with its arms crossed and huffed: "He lost the Shennong Ding and was afraid you'd be mad at him, so he chased after the Fire Rat. He told me to come up the mountain to inform you first and then go help retrieve the Shennong Ding!"
"What did you say?" Xiang Xueer was immediately shocked, her eyes widening and veins popping on her forehead. The Duck quickly hid behind Ling Zhu, peeking out with wide eyes, not daring to breathe.
Xiang Xueer clenched her fists in anger: "That idiot! Even if he catches up, what can he do? With his abilities, he can't possibly defeat the Fire Rat. None of you listen to orders; it's complete chaos!"
Sighing, she thought it was too late to say anything now since he had already gone after it. There wasn't a single person she could rely on. Xiang Xueer glanced at the sky; she wondered where Lian Cheng Xue and Gunaara had run off to.
As night fell, danger lurked everywhere. There could be monsters roaming in the woods, and those two might encounter peril. However, even if she went to look for them now, there might not be any news. It would be better to wait until dawn; as for their safety, it all depended on their luck.
