Xiang Xueer considered everything thoroughly, furrowing her brows for a long time. "Let's meet at Mo Hou Village outside the desert. You bring Jing Yue here to find us!"
The Lizard Spirit nodded, clutching its chest wound before transforming into a cloud of black mist and quickly leaving the desert. Xiang Xueer and the others finally managed to retrieve the Shennong Ding safely, and now only the last Kongtong Seal remained. The Ancient Five Wonders were about to be fully collected.
The group exchanged glances and turned to head towards the small village outside the desert. The road ahead would become increasingly challenging, but they were confident that together they could accomplish this daunting task.
Meanwhile, Duck and Gunaara arrived at an Extreme Peak Village on the eastern side of Sky Beyond Mountain, which was close to the last small village, just a few dozen kilometers apart. The two searched everywhere for news of Xiang Xueer but still found nothing, and they were beginning to lose hope.
"Big sister, where on earth have you gone?" Duck lamented as he sat by the street with a portrait in hand, tears welling up in his eyes. "It seems you really don't want me anymore!"
A rumbling sound came from his stomach. He frowned and rubbed his belly, realizing it wasn't his stomach making noise.
Duck turned to see Gunaara clutching her stomach, her eyebrows drooping as she pouted and complained, "I'm so hungry! I haven't eaten anything since morning; my stomach is protesting!"
Seeing this, Duck quickly rummaged through his pockets but found not a single coin left. "Sigh, I have no money left. Do you have any?"
Gunaara shook her head, wearing a distressed expression. "I was in such a hurry when I left that I forgot to bring any silver. I've been spending your money these past few days. What do we do now? No money means no food!"
This was indeed the most troublesome situation. They hadn't even found their big sister yet, and it seemed they would have to beg on the streets. Duck glanced at Gunaara and sighed deeply. "Sigh, I guess begging won't work either; who would believe a young lady like you is a beggar?"
"What should we do then?" Gunaara slumped her shoulders, continuously rubbing her belly as it grumbled incessantly. Her eyes were fixed hungrily on the diners inside the restaurant across the street as she swallowed hard.
The dignified young lady was used to living in comfort yet insisted on running out crying to fight demons; wasn't this just asking for trouble? Even if she lacked knowledge, she should have some common sense—going out without money was just self-torture!
After enduring for a while, she finally stood up with determination and pointed at the restaurant across the street. "Come on, Duck! I'm taking you to eat roast duck!"
"Ah? I'm Duck, I don't eat my own kind!" Before Duck could react, Gunaara had already pulled her into the restaurant. As soon as the waiter saw Gunaara dressed so elegantly, he assumed she must be wealthy and didn't think much of it, promptly bringing out a large table full of chicken, duck, fish, and meat that she ordered.
After the two devoured the entire table of food like hungry wolves, they finally satisfiedly rubbed their bellies and let out a contented burp. Duck almost rolled on the floor from overeating, with greasy food still lingering at the corners of her mouth.
"Ah, finally full! That was amazing!" Duck kept humming happily. The two exchanged glances and then stood on their tiptoes, preparing to sneak away. Just as they were about to turn around, the waiter stopped them.
"Hey, wait a minute! You two haven't paid yet!" The waiter smiled at them, "It's a total of fifty-six taels and three coins. Hurry up and pay!"
Gunaara grinned so widely that her mouth almost cramped up. Then she rummaged through her bag for a long time, looking conflicted as she shook her head at the waiter: "We... we don't have any money!"
"No money?" The waiter's face instantly froze. After sizing up Gunaara and Duck for a while, he suddenly shouted, "You dare come here to eat without paying? Are you trying to dine and dash?"
At this shout, all the diners turned to look at the two of them before returning to their meals. The boss standing by the counter frowned slightly and slammed his abacus onto the table before turning to shout into the kitchen, "Honey, we have someone trying to dine and dash!"
At that moment, in the kitchen, a woman with a face full of flesh was throwing a piece of pork onto the cutting board. Upon hearing the shout from outside, she immediately turned around with a wave of Killing Intent and rushed out holding a large knife: "Who dares to dine and dash!"
"Ah!" Gunaara widened her eyes at the sight of the Fat Woman. She was beyond just robust; she was like an ancient version of a muscular chubby girl. Her triangular eyes locked onto Gunaara and Duck, and with a flash of her knife blade, both of them turned to flee.
"Wow, this woman is so scary! She wouldn't chop me up for roast duck, would she?" Duck's legs trembled so much that she could barely walk straight. Just as Gunaara reached the door, two tall men blocked her way.
"Still trying to run? You've got some guts coming here to eat without paying!" The woman approached with her knife raised high and placed it horizontally in front of them: "Now tell me, are you going to settle this publicly or privately?"
Gunaara looked at the woman, staring at the meat cleaver in front of her neck. She swallowed hard and asked, "What... what does publicly mean? What does privately mean?"
The woman swiftly put away the knife with a whoosh and slapped it onto the table beside her, crossing her arms over her chest. "It's very simple; this will send you two freeloaders to the authorities."
"The authorities? Are we going to jail?" Upon hearing this, Gunaara lowered her head and exchanged a glance with Duck, then quickly shook her head. "No, no, we don't want to go to jail!"
Seeing this, the Fat Woman waved her hand towards the two big men at the door. "It seems they chose to settle this privately. You two take them to the kitchen; I'll deal with them later!"
"To the kitchen?" Sweat instantly dripped down Duck's forehead as she rushed outside. "No! I don't want to become roasted duck!"
Hearing Duck's shout, Gunaara felt a chill run down her spine. No way, they only ate a little food, and now they're going to be chopped up for meat filling? What kind of world is this? If I had known it was this dangerous, I wouldn't have come out to slay demons.
The two big men dragged the two into the back kitchen and tossed them onto the ground. Unable to bear their screams, one covered his ears while pointing at a large basin filled with pots and bowls nearby. "Shut up! Hurry up and wash the dishes!"
"Huh? Wash dishes?" Gunaara and Duck turned to look at several large basins of rice bowls soaking in water. She swallowed hard and asked, "Hey? Weren't we supposed to be chopped up for meat filling? Why are we just washing dishes?"
"Yeah, weren't we supposed to become roasted duck?" Duck also looked at the two big men in confusion. The two exchanged glances and burst into laughter. "You guys are hilarious! This is the first time I've seen such foolish people. Killing someone is against the law; Boss Lady just wants you to wash dishes as payment for your meal."
"Exactly! But it's no wonder; Boss Lady usually has such a fierce expression that it's understandable you misunderstood!" After saying that, the two turned and left. "Hurry up and wash! There are plenty more; if you don't finish today, don't even think about sleeping."
With that, the door to the Small Utility Room was closed. Gunaara and Duck exchanged glances before looking helplessly at the piles of rice bowls. Gunaara sighed deeply, "Well, let's just get started on washing; who knows how long this will take!"
Thus, for their first adventure in the world, slaying demons and monsters, Gunaara ended up washing dishes because they had dined without paying.
