A bird chirped from the sky, and Xiang Xueer looked up to see a Red Flying Eagle soaring overhead. She turned her head and asked, "Serpent Empress, where exactly are you taking me? You’re not planning some trick, are you?"
"Don't worry, we're almost there," the Serpent Empress replied, glancing sideways with her Red Eyes. She pointed to the rolling peaks in the distance. "It's right over there!"
In the mountains? Xiang Xueer stared at the peaks for a while before looking back. Although the mountain was not tall, it ran parallel to the Sky Beyond Mountain, allowing a clear view from where they stood.
As they spoke, the two quickened their pace. By evening, they had reached the mountainside, where the Serpent Empress stopped at the entrance of a cave filled with swamps. "The Witch is inside this cave."
Xiang Xueer cautiously peered into the cave entrance, feeling a cold breeze rush towards her. She turned to stare at the Serpent Empress and nodded toward the entrance. "Why aren't you going in?"
The Serpent Empress swallowed hard. She had discovered this cave while tracking the Masked Man and had seen him move the Witch's body from that icy cave to here; she had never entered it herself.
What if there were traps or ambushes? The Serpent Empress stood still, and Xiang Xueer immediately understood. "Hey, are you serious? You brought me here without scouting for enemies first?"
"What do you mean I didn't scout? I saw the Witch go in, and that Masked Man shouldn't be in the cave right now," the Serpent Empress said, unable to suppress her worries. If her presence was exposed, that person could crush her as easily as stepping on an ant.
"Whatever!" Xiang Xueer rolled her eyes disdainfully and pushed through the cave entrance. Seeing this, the Serpent Empress glanced around before following closely behind.
A wave of cold air hit them; the temperature inside the cave was vastly different from outside. Xiang Xueer touched her shoulder as they cautiously made their way deeper into the cave.
Indeed, at the very back of the cave, both walls and floor were covered in thick ice. In front of them lay a massive ice bed where the Witch lay quietly.
Finally found her! Xiang Xueer approached and noted that there seemed to be no one else in the cave. She reached out to touch the Witch's body; it was cold and covered in frost. It seemed they had frozen her after bringing her here to prevent decomposition.
Xiang Xueer felt a surge of excitement. Damn that stinky Witch! Now that I've found your body, I can finally say goodbye to you soon. She turned to wink at the Serpent Empress and then pointed at the Witch's body.
"What do you mean?" The Serpent Empress looked at her with a puzzled expression. Xiang Xueer sighed, "What are you staring at me for? Hurry up and help me get her body out of here."
"What? You want me to do it?" The Serpent Empress's face darkened. How dare this Dead Girl give her orders? Xiang Xueer helplessly placed her dislocated arm in front of the Serpent Empress, saying, "Look at me like this. Are you really going to make me carry her out?"
The Serpent Empress's face instantly changed color as she glared at Xiang Xueer's dislocated arm. She held back her frustration; if it weren't for needing her help to kill that damned Masked Man, she wouldn't be taking orders from this Dead Girl.
Grinding her teeth, she hoisted the Witch's body onto her shoulder and quickly walked toward the cave entrance, continuously asking, "Hey, I'm bringing you the body. Don't even think about going back on your word."
"Got it, got it. Enough nonsense! If we don't hurry, that Masked Man will be back, and we'll both be done for!" Xiang Xueer impatiently replied, eager to get the Witch's body to the inn. If she had her original body, perhaps Ling Zhu could find a way to extract the Witch's soul.
Just as they reached the door, their faces instantly darkened. Truly, what one fears most often comes to pass; they ran straight into the Masked Man waiting at the cave entrance for them to walk right into his trap.
Oh my god! Xiang Xueer tilted her head and shrugged at the Serpent Empress, saying, "This isn't my fault; your information was wrong!"
The Serpent Empress's face turned green in an instant. The Witch she was carrying fell to the ground as she widened her eyes in fear and pointed at Xiang Xueer, shouting, "It's her! She forced me! She said if I didn't help her find the Witch's body, she'd kill me!"
"Ah?" Xiang Xueer gaped in shock. This Serpent Empress is ruthless; when discovered, she dumps all the blame on me. Come on, with my almost second-degree disability look, how could I possibly threaten the Serpent Empress?
"Serpent Empress, are you challenging my bottom line?" The Masked Man finally spoke up. His cold eyes fixed on the panicking Serpent Empress. Xiang Xueer broke into a cold sweat; is this really the same Serpent Empress who usually acts so arrogantly and kills without blinking? Why is she so afraid of this Masked Man? Who exactly is he?
Suddenly, the Masked Man extended his hand, revealing a bright red object in his palm. Xiang Xueer focused her gaze and realized it looked like a heart—no, it was a Snake Gallbladder. What on earth is going on?
Before she could process it all, the Serpent Empress had already turned to flee in terror. However, after just a few steps, she suddenly collapsed to her knees with a thud, crying out in pain, "No! It hurts so much! Don't squeeze me! Spare me!"
"What is happening?" Xiang Xueer looked in shock at the Serpent Empress rolling on the ground, completely confused about the situation. Turning her head, she noticed that the Masked Man was tightly gripping the red Snake Gallbladder in his hand, and he shouted angrily, "Dare to betray me? You seek death!"
"Ah!" The Serpent Empress widened her eyes, the veins on her forehead nearly bursting. It was then that Xiang Xueer realized that what the man was holding must be the Serpent Empress's Snake Gallbladder. This was bad; things were not looking good.
"Hey, wait!" Xiang Xueer stopped the Masked Man's actions. Although she had no good feelings toward the Serpent Empress, and this woman had been cunning and treacherous, launching retaliatory attacks against her several times, logically speaking, she should just stand by and watch as the Serpent Empress died, perhaps even applauding.
However, estimating the situation, if the Serpent Empress died, she would likely be next. Moreover, with her arm dislocated, if she fought against this mysterious Masked Man, she might end up dead herself.
Who exactly is this man? This was what puzzled Xiang Xueer the most. So this time, she boldly made a guess; since it was a one-time chance, she might as well try to deceive him.
She stood calmly in place and pointed at the Masked Man, saying, "Hmph! We already know your identity, so stop hiding it. Do you think that by covering your face, no one in this world can recognize you?"
"What did you say?" The Masked Man seemed skeptical but started to have some concerns. His eyes kept darting between Xiang Xueer and the Serpent Empress, probably trying to discern something from their expressions.
The Serpent Empress was nearly out of breath from being tormented. Upon hearing Xiang Xueer's words, she immediately chimed in, "There’s no wall that doesn’t let the wind through. Do you think your actions are flawless? Let me tell you, once I learned your identity, I immediately informed my subordinates. If I die, your identity will be exposed immediately, leading to your disgrace."
The Serpent Empress's words were indeed effective; Xiang Xueer felt a cold sweat running down her back. However, the Serpent Empress's acting skills were quite impressive; she could easily compete for an Oscar for Best Actress.
The Masked Man hesitated as he stood there, beginning to waver. Suddenly, a piercing bird cry echoed from above. Everyone looked up to see a Red Flying Eagle circling in the sky.
Upon seeing the eagle, the Masked Man immediately withdrew his hand without saying a word and turned to disappear. It was unclear what prompted his sudden departure.
