"You... what are you going to do?" Platypus looked up at the Lizard Spirit, who had transformed into a human form, appearing to be in their twenties, with green eyes like rippling waves, dressed in a deep green long robe. Their black hair was slightly raised at the back of their head, and their figure resembled Li Yunyang. The Lizard Spirit's eyes were fixed on the unconscious Xiang Xueer, seemingly without malice.
"Jing Yue!" They suddenly spoke that name again, a smile gradually appearing at the corners of their mouth as they leaned down, gently stroking Xiang Xueer's cheek with a hand bearing black claws. "It's been a hundred years since we last met. I didn't expect you to still be alive; that's wonderful!"
"Hey, don't touch my sister!" Platypus swatted away the Lizard Spirit's hand, fearfully hugging Xiang Xueer's shoulders and shouting, "I-I tell you, I'm also very powerful; you'd better not touch her!"
After saying that, they raised their fist and began to swing it around, clearly indicating that they wouldn't allow any contact. The Lizard Spirit withdrew their hand and stood up, frowning as they looked at the black Miasma emanating from her, appearing quite worried.
"Who are you? Did the master send you?" Ling Zhu finally stepped out from behind a tree, cautiously observing the unfamiliar man in front of them.
"Master? What master?" The Lizard Spirit glanced at Ling Zhu but ignored him. Looking at the brightening sky with some reluctance, they cast one last glance at Xiang Xueer before turning to leave. "Jing Yue, we will meet again soon; I will wait for you!"
With a swoosh, a gust of black wind blew past, and the Lizard Spirit had vanished without a trace. Duck, whose heart was racing in anxiety, finally collapsed onto the ground. "Ah! You almost scared me to death! Li Yunyang, hurry back!"
It seemed that this individual was not under the master's command; there weren't many demons capable of fighting evenly with the Serpent Empress. What was this lizard's origin? Ling Zhu walked over to Duck to help lift Xiang Xueer and found another inn to settle down.
Meanwhile, Li Yunyang, Qingtian, and Lian Cheng Xue were hurrying back and had finally found Gu Liu Ma. The four of them were riding swiftly back.
However, as soon as they returned to the previous inn, they were stunned by the scene before them; the inn had already been reduced to rubble, with signs of a struggle all around.
"How could it have turned into this? We were only gone for two days!" Li Yunyang's mind was in chaos as he searched for any sign of Xiang Xueer, leaving no haystack or filthy ditch unchecked.
"It seems something has happened!" Lan Ran Qingtian glanced around anxiously as well. Lian Cheng Xue clenched their fists tightly. "Who did this?"
"Don't panic! They might have already left. Let's ask around!" Gu Liu Ma's words helped them shake off their earlier wild thoughts and begin searching nearby.
Just then, a figure slowly appeared in front of them. Li Yunyang squinted and saw that it was Ling Zhu walking towards them. He quickly rushed over, grabbed her, and asked, "What happened to Dead Girl?"
Ling Zhu glanced sideways at the person called Gu Liu Ma and immediately smiled, "Don't worry, sister is fine. There were some complications; you all come with me to the inn across the street, and I'll explain everything in detail!"
Hearing that Xiang Xueer was safe, everyone felt a weight lift off their hearts. Gu Liu Ma walked up to Ling Zhu, looked at the wounds on her face and the dust on her clothes, and said, "Miss, you're hurt badly. Let's go to the inn first, and I'll take a look at you!"
As the second-ranked Exorcist, Gu Liu Ma didn't expect they would actually find her. However, this person exuded a strange aura, and when he looked at her, his gaze seemed to hold a probing intent.
Although Ling Zhu couldn't pinpoint what was odd about him, she felt very uncomfortable. So she quickly shook her head and said, "No need. Compared to sister, I'm nothing; let's treat her first!"
The group finally returned to the inn and rushed over to see Xiang Xueer lying safely on the bed, breathing heavily. They finally felt relieved. Li Yunyang reached out to touch her cheek; it was cold and devoid of any warmth.
"Shirley, the divine doctor has been called, so you must get better soon!" Li Yunyang tightly held her icy little hand and suddenly felt waves of heartache and pity. If it were any other time, he would have been dealt with severely for such an act.
Duck turned around upon seeing Li Yunyang enter and angrily pointed at him while shouting, "You snails took so long to come back! We almost got eaten by Serpent Empress!"
"Serpent Empress?" Qingtian was startled. The snake skin he saw in the forest indeed belonged to her. This Serpent Empress was relentless; not only had she returned from death but also dared to attack Xiang Xueer.
Li Yunyang quickly pulled Platypus aside. "Save your scolding for later; hurry up and tell us everything that happened!"
Platypus shot him an angry glare before gesturing wildly as he recounted everything. Everyone's eyes nearly popped out of their heads.
"No way!" Li Yunyang, Qingtian, and Lian Cheng Xue exclaimed in unison. It was one thing for Serpent Empress to attack twice; now a Heart Demon had appeared to block their path, and inexplicably there was a Lizard Spirit as well. What shocked them most was that Duck had acted like a hero, risking himself to protect Xiang Xueer's safety when he would have run away under normal circumstances.
"Has he turned over a new leaf?" Li Yunyang kept shaking his head. "This world is too crazy; even Duck can keep his promise and protect Dead Girl. Is the world coming to an end?"
Platypus was immediately filled with anger upon hearing this. How dare these heartless individuals doubt it? It glared at the three of them, then turned and sat down on the ground, too lazy to deal with them.
"Gu Senior, we will have to trouble you next!" Qingtian walked to the bedside. Gu Liu Ma had already begun examining Xiang Xueer's condition while they were chatting.
Gu Liu Ma looked grave as he observed Xiang Xueer, squinting at the miasma emanating from her body. He couldn't help but sigh, then took out a small vial from his pocket and placed a pill into her mouth. "The miasma has already seeped into her internal organs; this pill can only sustain her for seven days!"
"Seven days?" Li Yunyang stepped forward and asked, "Gu Senior, what do you mean by that? Why can it only sustain her for seven days?"
Gu Liu Ma's expression was heavy as he slowly stood up and turned to look at the others in the room. "Actually, there is a way to save her life, but it requires two medicinal herbs!"
"Two medicinal herbs!" Lian Cheng Xue exclaimed, immediately laughing. "You startled me! It's just two types of herbs, right? Just tell us, and we'll go find them right away."
Gu Liu Ma shook his head and glanced at the sleeping Xiang Xueer. "These two herbs are not as simple as you think. The first one is the Thousand-Year Ganoderma found on Bai Ling Mountain, and the other is the most difficult to find—Gentian!"
Upon hearing this, everyone's expressions immediately darkened. The Thousand-Year Ganoderma was hard to find, but the real headache was Gentian. Obtaining both of these herbs was almost impossible.
The atmosphere in the room suddenly turned gloomy. Ling Zhu stared intently at Gu Liu Ma for a long time before quietly turning to Platypus beside him and asking, "Duck, why don't you tell them my identity?"
"Hmph!" Platypus crossed its arms and replied in a low voice, "Don't think I won't say anything; I just saw that you protected my sister earlier, so I'm giving you a chance. If you dare to do anything bad, I will definitely not let you off!"
Ling Zhu had initially thought of killing it due to the exposure of its identity but decided not to pursue it further upon seeing how perceptive Duck was. However, Gu Liu Ma's gaze was sharp; could it be that he had seen through something?
