The body began to float in mid-air, and the three souls and seven spirits started to infuse into her body. In no time, the corpse's pale face began to show a hint of color, and a pair of Red Eyes opened, their slender pupils contracting slightly as she slowly descended to the ground.
Seeing this, Bakemono immediately knelt down with a thud, crawling over with a fawning expression: "Lady Serpent, you have finally returned!"
"Hmm?" The woman's lips curled into an evil smile as she reached out to stroke Bakemono's head. "I was wondering who had the ability to summon me back; it turns out to be my loyal servant: Bakemono!"
"Yes, my Lady Serpent. You haven't forgotten the promise you made to us three brothers, have you?" Bakemono looked up at Serpent Empress with hopeful eyes.
"Hehehe!" Serpent Empress let out a few cold laughs that sent chills down one's spine. She tilted her head and stared at the kneeling Bakemono: "Of course I haven't forgotten. But why is it that only you are left among the three brothers?"
Upon hearing this, Bakemono slammed his fist on the ground in anger: "Lady Serpent, my two brothers were killed by that Exorcist girl while trying to welcome you back to the human realm! You must help us take revenge!"
"Oh? Exorcist girl?" After hearing this, Serpent Empress extended her forked tongue to lick her lips with interest. Her red pupils contracted sharply as she gazed toward the collapsed cave entrance.
Bakemono led Serpent Empress out of the cave, where Xiang Xueer was waiting outside with Taotie. She squinted at the two figures slowly emerging from the cave—one was the girl who had just died on the Sacrifice stage, and the other was that bastard Bakemono.
Serpent Empress scrutinized Xiang Xueer and Taotie closely. A young girl was actually able to recover Taotie as a summoned beast; she must possess considerable ability.
Xiang Xueer felt uncomfortable under her gaze. It seemed that the soul within this body had already changed owners—was she really the demon called Serpent Empress? Taotie looked at her cautiously: "Strange, I feel like I've seen this woman somewhere before!"
At that moment, a cold and eerie smile crept across Serpent Empress's lips: "You are the Exorcist who killed Thousand Demons and Ten Thousand Ghosts?"
"And what if I am? Do you want to take revenge for your little brother?" Xiang Xueer gripped her dagger tightly. The aura emanating from this woman was chilling enough to make one tremble; even from such a distance, she could feel it very clearly.
"Revenge?" Serpent Empress glanced sideways at Bakemono standing beside her, then nonchalantly smiled at Xiang Xueer before reaching out a hand toward her forehead.
With a loud 'crack', the fingers plunged deep into its skull, and Bakemono let out a terrified scream, collapsing to the ground: "W-why are you killing me!"
The face of Serpent Empress revealed no thoughts, as she smiled and blinked: "Bakemono, you and your brothers are merely my pawns. Did you really think I would honor your boring promises?"
"What?" Bakemono howled in pain, lying on the ground as his eyes gradually lost their light: "Serpent Empress, you... you will not die a good death!"
With another 'crack', she effortlessly shattered Bakemono's skull, disdainfully tossing it aside: "Hmph! A bunch of ugly skeletons, daring to dream of becoming human. It's truly laughable!"
Xiang Xueer stood dumbfounded, having always thought herself toxic enough, never expecting to encounter such a bizarre situation. Wasn't this Bakemono summoned by her? Logically, he should be her benefactor, yet she killed him without a care.
Taotie stared with his red eyes, exclaiming in surprise: "Could it be that you are the master of the Ghostly Realm: Serpent Empress?"
"Oh?" Upon hearing this title, Serpent Empress suddenly smiled, her inscrutable face lighting up: "Oh my, I didn't expect that after being cursed for a hundred years and not seeing the light of day, someone would still remember my name upon my return!"
"Ghostly Realm?" Xiang Xueer looked at Taotie in astonishment and gently asked: "Who exactly is she?"
Taotie extended his Dragon Tail, swiftly wrapping up Xiang Xueer and sitting her on his back as he ran forward without looking back: "Stop with the nonsense! When encountering a demon of this level, it's best to escape first!"
"Ah?" Before Xiang Xueer could react, Taotie had already taken off running. The standing Serpent Empress playfully pouted: "Heh heh, since I haven't moved in a hundred years, I might as well stretch my muscles and have some fun with you!"
As she spoke, a mass of black flames erupted beneath her feet, chasing closely after the two. Startled, Taotie quickened his pace: "This is troublesome; we've attracted this kind of creature!"
"Hey, Taotie, what exactly is she?" Xiang Xueer turned her head repeatedly to look back in confusion. That damned Serpent Empress was like a ghost, closely following them.
"Serpent Empress, she is a thousand-year-old Crimson Python. Back in the day, she fought with the seventh generation Demon Lord: Demon Night for control of the demon realm and ended up sealed by the Demon Lord in the Ghostly Abyss. It's been a hundred years now; I never expected that these Three Brothers of the Hundred Demons would summon her back. The demon realm is about to be thrown into chaos again!" Just as Taotie finished explaining, unexpectedly, that Serpent Empress finally launched an attack on the two of them.
Xiang Xueer turned around and saw the trees in the surrounding forest breaking through the ground, floating in the air and beginning to move, forming a line that firmly blocked their path.
“Oh no, what should we do?” Xiang Xueer touched the AK47 on her back, which was already out of bullets, and it seemed there were only a few arrows left on the Crossbow. Did they really have to fight this Serpent Empress? If what Taotie said was true, she was injured now, and this damned Serpent Empress had just killed Bakemono. How could she let them go easily?
It seemed that a battle was unavoidable today because the Serpent Empress was already standing in front of them. She flicked her forked tongue and her face seemed to be covered with snake scales. She stared anxiously at Xiang Xueer's chest: “The heart of a young woman is indeed the most delicious!”
Xiang Xueer stared at her face in shock: “What’s wrong with this creature? Why has her face changed like this?”
Taotie slowly landed on the ground: “Master, be careful. She is a Thousand-Year Serpent Demon, not human. To maintain a human appearance, she must consume human hearts every day!”
Oh my god! A real-life version of Painted Skin? Xiang Xueer gaped at the writhing Serpent Empress in front of her. It seemed that to protect her fragile heart, she had to fight for her life today.
With two daggers tightly gripped in her hands, she stepped forward with a loud ‘pop’ and shouted, “Ugly monster, if you have the guts, come over! If you want to take my life, you’re too late!”
“You reckless little girl!” The Serpent Empress clenched her fists, her disheveled hair flying in the wind. With a twist of her body, she finally revealed her true form—a giant red Crimson Python, baring its bloody fangs as it lunged at Xiang Xueer.
Xiang Xueer was now facing her greatest crisis, while Li Yunyang and Lan Ran Qingtian had finally resolved their situation. Although they still didn’t quite understand why this group of monsters suddenly collapsed, at least they had won.
“It’s dawn!” Li Yunyang was already exhausted and collapsed on the ground, lying spread-eagle: “We finally took care of the Hundred Demon Legion. The people of Ghost Night Village are saved!”
The citizens of Ghost Night Village cheered excitedly, hugging each other as they began to celebrate their victory. They no longer had to fear attacks from monsters and would no longer have to live in hiding with their doors shut early.
