Xiang Xueer shrugged and said, "I also want to know what he was saying. All I could hear was something like 'ghost' and 'run away.'"
"Ah? Could it be that you saw a ghost in broad daylight?" Li Yunyang put down his iron shovel and sat down on a stool, exhausted. "Oh, I'm so tired! Digging up corpses all night has really worn me out!"
"Seeing a ghost?" Lan Ran Qingtian suddenly recalled the Bakemono he encountered last night when he heard Li Yunyang mention it. He couldn't help but wonder, "Now that you mention it, the Demon I encountered last night seemed to be called Bakemono!"
Bakemono? Xiang Xueer's eyes twitched slightly. When she saw him last night, she noticed that Qingtian had wounds on his face, as if he had gone through a fierce battle.
"What happened? Did you encounter a magical beast on your way back?" Xiang Xueer quickly asked.
"A magical beast? I don't think so," Lan Ran Qingtian replied. He couldn't quite describe what the Bakemono was, but the fact that its entire body could be used as a weapon made him very uneasy.
So, he recounted everything that happened last night to the two of them, causing them to widen their eyes in shock.
Xiang Xueer listened with great interest. "A demon that uses its bones as weapons? That's quite interesting! I've never seen such a monster before. Could it be an alien mutation?"
"Alien mutation?" Li Yunyang was confused by this idea, but what concerned him more was not this: "No way! A mere bone-manipulating demon made you use the Seven Character Formula! Who exactly is this being?"
"Yeah, in order to quickly escape and deliver the medicine, I didn't dare to linger in battle, so I directly used the Seven Character Formula!” Lan Ran Qingtian stroked his chin while looking at the still dazed Lian Cheng Xue. “What I'm now suspicious of is whether this demon called Bakemono is related to the deaths of the people in Exorcism Village!"
"That's hard to say!" Xiang Xueer glanced sideways at the sweating Lian Cheng Xue. "We'll only know once he wakes up!"
Two days passed in a flash. On the morning of the second day, Xiang Xueer touched his forehead and nodded. "Hmm, it seems the fever has gone down, and the wounds are starting to heal. He has managed to pass through the gates of hell!"
Lan Ran Qingtian finally revealed a smile on his face: "Jiaorong, you are indeed impressive. The first time I saw you, you were the one who reset your dislocated ankle by yourself. I didn't expect you also understood medicine!"
"Hehe!" Xiang Xueer chuckled, "It's nothing special, just some emergency treatment methods I learned while in the military. But could you please stop calling me Jiaorong? I don't like that name!"
Qingtian hesitated for a moment but eventually changed his words: "Alright then, I'll call you Shirley!"
"Please!" Xiang Xueer sighed, seeing such a stiff and awkward man for the first time. "Just call me Shirley, no need to add 'miss' or anything. In our place, calling someone 'miss' is an insult."
"Oh, I see!" Qingtian cleared his throat and called out a bit shyly, "Shirley!"
Xiang Xueer finally showed a satisfied smile. However, just as she opened her mouth to speak, Li Yunyang walked in with a dark expression, glaring at Lan Ran Qingtian: "Well, I step out for just a moment and you two start flirting!"
This idiot, Xiang Xueer rolled her eyes at him. "Who is flirting? Seriously, get to the point. What did you find out?"
Li Yunyang then remembered the matter at hand: "I went to survey the nearby villages. The villagers have no idea what happened here; they only said that the Exorcist in this village seems to have provoked some Demon, which is why things turned out this way!"
Tch, checking was as good as useless. It seems we can only wait for this person named Lian Cheng Xue to wake up to know the answer. But what kind of demon could be so powerful as to slaughter everyone in the village overnight? It's simply unbelievable; did they use cruise missiles?
"Mm!" At that moment, the voices of the three finally woke Lian Cheng Xue, who had been asleep for three days. He slowly opened his eyes and looked at the gradually clearer scene before him. Suddenly, all his nerves tensed up, and with a loud 'bang,' he sat up and shouted, "Sister, don't worry about me! Run!"
Seeing this, Lan Ran Qingtian quickly went over and pressed down on his shoulder: "Lian Xiong, it's okay now. Don't be agitated; it's me!"
Lian Cheng Xue endured the excruciating pain in his injured arm. His earlier struggles had made his face turn pale as paper. He turned his head in shock to look at Qingtian and stopped struggling: "Qingtian, why is it you?"
"Quickly lie down, your wound isn't fully healed yet!" Qingtian gently helped him lie flat on the bed and asked, "I happened to pass by here and wanted to visit you, but I didn't expect to see the village slaughtered as soon as I entered. Everyone in the village is dead; we found you in a haystack!"
Lian Cheng Xue's mind began to play like a movie. He remembered the horrifying events that unfolded, a reality he never wanted to face in his life.
In this Exorcism Village lived the ancient Exorcist clan: the Chiba Clan. Although they were not a renowned exorcism family, they had upheld their duties for hundreds of years, taking it upon themselves to eliminate demons. Their family specialized in crafting exorcism weapons within the village.
Three days ago, in the early morning, he went out to gather firewood as usual. His sister and parents were busy with household chores inside. He still remembered that when he returned with bundles of firewood and entered the village gate, something felt off. The place was in disarray; even Aunt Huang, who usually sold vegetables rain or shine, was nowhere to be seen. Just as he found it strange, he suddenly discovered that all the villagers were lying in pools of blood.
In shock, he dropped the firewood and ran home frantically. What he saw along the way was heart-wrenching. Upon entering his home, he found his parents lying on the ground covered in blood.
When he tried to lift his parents, they had already passed away. Lian Cheng Xue suddenly remembered his 14-year-old sister was still at home, so he hurried inside to search for her. At that moment, his sister heard him and pushed open the wardrobe door; she was trembling and hiding inside, thus escaping disaster. He quickly embraced her and asked what had happened. She said she was chopping firewood at home when she suddenly heard screams outside. Their father went out to check and discovered that many figures dressed in white robes were flying around the village, each carrying a large scythe. The demons were attacking the villagers; they looked like the Black and White Impermanence from hell and killed anyone they saw.
Strangely enough, some of the Exorcists in the village seemed completely outmatched but were not killed on the spot; twenty of them were captured by these demons and taken away.
The slaughter continued. In a moment of desperation, Lian Cheng Xue's parents quickly hid his sister in the wardrobe but were killed by those monsters themselves. After hearing his sister's account, he could hardly believe his ears. Just as he hesitated for a moment, there was still a demon left in the house. To protect his sister, he grabbed an axe crafted by his family and fought against the demon. Just as his sister prepared to escape, another demon rushed in and killed her with a single scythe strike. In the end, he was no match for these two demons; he was defeated repeatedly and lost one of his arms to them.
Thinking he would die like this, suddenly a whistle sounded from outside. The two demons seemed to have received an order and abandoned him. Fearing that these demons would return, he hid in a haystack and ended up fainting for three days due to his severe injuries.
What happened afterward was as Xiang Xueer and others witnessed; they arrived after these demons had slaughtered the village, and everything at the scene matched what Lian Cheng Xue described—they had seen it with their own eyes.
