Dark clouds loom over the city, occasionally accompanied by flashes of lightning and thunder. The air is filled with a dampness that is enough to make one feel uneasy. At this moment, the clock on the wall suddenly chimed nine times, startling me. It's already nine o'clock at night, and here I am still slaving away at the office. Damn the boss, I want to go home! I want to lie in my warm bed!
"Daisy, aren't you off work yet? It's about to pour down with heavy rain. If you don't leave now, you'll be too late!" My colleague Alice reminded me as she tidied up her desk.
I looked around and realized that the spacious office was now only occupied by the two of us.
"Sigh... I haven't finished revising the proposal for the new project. We need it for tomorrow's meeting," I replied wearily, slumping onto the desk.
"Poor child, I'll leave first. Be careful on your way!" Alice blew me a kiss and then hurriedly left the office.
The door slammed shut, and finally, the office was left with just me, a pitiful worker.
In the brief pause after our conversation, another email appeared in my inbox.
"Unqualified, revise it again!"
The email contained only a few words, but it deeply stung my eyes.
"Always revising, how am I supposed to know what you really want if I can't read minds!" I cried out in agony.
After roaring, I adjusted my glasses and continued to struggle with work. When I stepped out of the office building, it was pouring rain outside. The rain poured down like a waterfall, and the nearby buildings were all hidden in the rain. Fortunately, the last bus had not left yet, otherwise, I would have to spend a lot of money again today. I ran in a sorry state to the bus stop, waiting for the bus to take me home.
It's pitch black all around, not a soul in sight, as if there's only this bus stop left between heaven and earth. I pat the rainwater off me, silently cursing this damn weather. Suddenly, the glaring headlights shine towards me. Before I can react, I'm knocked to the ground by a speeding car. In the split second before losing consciousness, I seem to hear a voice from another world.
"To fulfill your wish, I can only trouble you for a bit first."
Hey! What do you mean? My wish is to strike it rich. You better not mess up my wish!
"Doctor, is she really okay? Why does she keep muttering about striking it rich?"
"She just has a minor concussion, she'll be fine when she wakes up."
Upon hearing these two unfamiliar voices, I slowly opened my eyes and found myself lying in a hospital bed, with a doctor in a white coat and a sincere, honest middle-aged man standing beside me.
"Hey, wake up, wake up!" The man exclaimed excitedly as soon as he saw me.
"Oh, you finally woke up. I was so worried, afraid that I might have caused you serious harm. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself!" He knelt down with a thud, continuously slapping his own face. Tears streaked down his weathered face.
My head was still slightly aching, but I realized that it was him who had hit me with his car.
I was just about to have an attack, and I saw the man crying even louder.
"I'm sorry, miss. I have an 80-year-old mother to support and a 10-year-old child to take care of. I really can't make ends meet at home." He described his bitter experience with snot and tears, and I was about to cry too.
This big brother looks like he's having a hard time too. Anyway, my injuries are not serious, so let's forget about the compensation...
I struggled to get out of bed and helped the man who was kneeling on the ground. I was about to say a few words of comfort to him. Just as I touched his arm, a voice suddenly sounded, "I've acted like this, this woman won't ask me for compensation, will she?"
I was so shocked that I let go of his arm. The voice was coming from the man in front of me, but he clearly hadn't opened his mouth. Seeing my puzzled and astonished look, he shed even more tears. His wrinkled face turned bright red, making him look even more honest and sincere. "I'm really a damn fool! If only I had worked harder, I wouldn't have... been unable to afford your medical expenses," the man began to slap himself again, wearing a regretful and distressed expression.
It seems like I misheard. This man clearly looks like an honest person, how could he deceive me?
Thinking this, I kindly reached out to support his arm and planned to pull him up from the ground.
This time, I clearly heard his voice. "What's wrong with this woman? Even after all this, I still can't deceive her? Don't bother, I still have to go drink later!"
However, he still didn't open his mouth, just covering his eyes and crying. There was a ridiculous answer in my heart. I let go of his arm, then touched it again, back and forth a few times. "Little girl, what are you doing?" he looked at me pitifully and said.
"Why is this bitch causing so much trouble!" he cursed viciously.
Two voices sounded, one after the other.
I opened my mouth in surprise.
Oh my goodness, I feel like... I can hear other people's thoughts?!
