Wei Yuan casually opened the document on the nearby computer, which belonged to Fat Boss Gu Jing. This script, which he had written himself, was still unnamed, so Wei Yuan began to flip through its contents.
It turned out that just because someone frequently watches movies, it doesn't mean they can understand a script. If presented visually with a tight plot where one suspense follows another, combined with skilled actors' performances, this could potentially become a box office dark horse!
In contrast to many so-called blockbusters today that forget that movies are meant to tell stories through visuals and instead focus on impressive imagery and grand promotions, actors often emphasize their personal charm rather than relying on their characters for expression. Furthermore, directors sometimes get lost in convoluted philosophies that even they struggle to understand.
Gu Jing's script vividly and attractively tells a story. At least for film investors, producing this film would not likely result in losses; for audiences, it should be a successful commercial film that does not underestimate their intelligence. Achieving this level of quality in a movie is already quite rare.
Of course, this was just Wei Yuan's personal opinion. During the golden age of Hong Kong cinema in the 1980s and 1990s, if someone in the industry brought a mature script to investors, success might have been possible. However, given the current environment, it seemed that Fat Boss Gu Jing's script could only serve as entertainment for himself.
Yet Wei Yuan did not intend to voice such blunt truths. In fact, he admired Gu Jing's screenwriting skills; his ability to control the overall rhythm of the film was hardly inferior to that of professionals.
If given the opportunity, Gu Jing might truly achieve something in the film industry. While appreciating him, Wei Yuan also confirmed something: those who possess extraordinary abilities in certain areas—especially artists—often have unique appearances. This quirky fat man was a vivid example!
