"Can you get up now?" Nars chose to extend his palm. 0

Miao Chengmin slowly reached out his hand, but just as they were about to touch, he suddenly pulled it back. 0

Nars looked at the zombie in front of him, who had no eyeballs, with confusion. "Answer me two questions, and I'll get up," Miao Chengmin said. 0

"Are we negotiating now?" Nars smiled, but inside he was filled with dark thoughts—this guy dared to say that even when surrounded by so many people. 0

"Fine," Nars replied. 0

An Xiaotian had been watching the gaping wound in Miao Chengmin's abdomen where he had been pierced by a battle sword. Because—not only he noticed—the edges of that wound were surrounded by a black substance, seemingly guiding the flesh towards the center to grow. 0

"How could he have the same abilities as me?" Lu Sha wondered silently. "Could it be that he's also a subject of Viper's experiments, like Lin Weixing?" 0

But Viper's forces had been destroyed by the military years ago; could there still be remnants? Lu Sha frowned. If that's the case, things seemed to be getting complicated. 0

"The first question," Miao Chengmin said, "are you human? If not, tell me where you came from. Be honest." 0

"I..." One of Nars's eyes turned into a normal human eye. "I guess I'm half-human." 0

"Is there such a thing?" Miao Chengmin was more than a little surprised; he unconsciously stood up and looked closely at this person's eyes. 0

All the guards immediately aimed their guns at Miao Chengmin. 0

"It's hard to explain clearly to you," Liu Xuan yawned. "Ah—let's move on to the next one." 0

"Then who are they?" Miao Chengmin pointed at the few people behind him. 0

"My comrades," Liu Xuan said. "This alliance is made up of superpowers or elite individuals from this nation." 0

"Alliance? Against whom?" 0

"That's two questions." 0

An Xiaotian stepped forward and pulled Liu Xuan back beside him to prevent any sudden moves from Miao Chengmin. In fact, if Miao Chengmin wanted to attack, Liu Xuan would have been knocked away long ago. 0

"Alright, it's our turn to ask you now," An Xiaotian said with his hands on his hips. "You killed that Caretaker, right?" 0

"If I say no, would you believe me?" Miao Chengmin replied. 0

Everyone fell silent at once. 0

"I can swear on my soul that everything that happened in the graveyard has nothing to do with us." As soon as Miao Chengmin said this, he regretted it—he had let something slip. 0

"We? Soul?" Liu Xuan suddenly wore a serious expression. "Who else is there?" 0

"No comment." 0

Miao Chengmin stared at the two of them, his hand quietly clenching into a fist. The surroundings fell into dead silence, with only a low growl surging in the gaze shared among the three. 0

Jiao An unconsciously began to exert force on the grip of his gun. The oppressive atmosphere seemed ready to explode at any moment. 0

Suddenly! An Xiaotian walked towards Miao Chengmin! 0

One step, two steps... 0

With a whoosh! The guards instinctively raised their guns in unison, waiting for An Xiaotian's command. 0

"He..." Miao Chengmin felt threatened as the young man who had pierced him with a battle sword continued to approach... 0

"Are we going to fight again?" Miao Chengmin asked directly. 0

"Thud." 0

An Xiaotian's armored glove landed heavily on Miao Chengmin's shoulder. 0

"First, I apologize. I shouldn't have hit you so hard. At least now I believe you are not on the opposing side," An Xiaotian said. 0

The guards looked at each other, confused about what their captain was doing. 0

"You don't know my identity, so it's normal for you to hit hard. But..." Miao Chengmin tilted his head—he was also taken aback, "Don't you find what I just said suspicious?" 0

An Xiaotian was certainly not that foolish, but he felt that the talking zombie in front of him was not just an ordinary zombie; it had thoughts, emotions, and immense strength—definitely not someone to be underestimated. 0

"For the greater good," An Xiaotian shrugged and withdrew his hand. "You just said that our survival depends on you. So who are you?" 0

An Xiaotian deliberately left his sentence unfinished. Miao Chengmin buried his head down, seemingly deep in thought. Everyone waited patiently. 0

However, Miao Chengmin never lifted his head; he looked at the cricket crawling slowly on the grass and said, "Let me introduce myself. My name is Miao Chengmin. In my previous life, I was a member of the Chinese people. I used to be a firefighter and rescue team leader, but I unfortunately lost my life during a mission. Later, my soul arrived in the Divine Realm..." 0

"Stop, stop, stop." An Xiaotian interrupted him, and Miao Chengmin raised his head. "What do you mean by Divine Realm?" 0

"He's not wrong," Nars called out to An Xiaotian. "There are two supernatural worlds beyond the universe: one is the Divine Realm, and the other is the Demon Realm." 0

Nars paused and muttered, "Looks like I wasn't mistaken." 0

Not only was An Xiaotian confused, but Lu Sha and Jiao An were completely bewildered. 0

The zombie in front of them seemed quite calm as it said, "Anyway, I came from the Divine Realm. Actually, I'm not a zombie; my soul is merely residing in this deceased body." 0

"Then why did you come here?" An Xiaotian asked. 0

Miao Chengmin did not answer but turned his head towards the back. 0

Everyone followed his gaze; on another mountain in the distance, dust was rising, and yellow sand enveloped the southern forest as it drifted towards the distant city with the northern wind. 0

The wind today was a bit strong, but it shouldn't be enough to raise such a large cloud of dust. 0

Nars recalled Miao Chengmin's slip of the tongue and began to suspect something. 0

"Xiaotian, we need to leave." 0

"Huh?" An Xiaotian couldn't believe his ears. Nars actually suggested retreating; what was going on? 0

"Your companions are coming for you, right?" Nars deliberately raised his voice. 0

"Oh no!" Lu Sha covered her mouth—she couldn't imagine how many zombies would need to run to kick up such a large cloud of dust. If they all came, then Miao Chengmin alone could match four Defenders; this was no joke. 0

"It should be," Miao Chengmin turned back around. "These compatriots of mine were all humans born on Earth before." 0

An Xiaotian suddenly felt a bit safer; according to Miao Chengmin's words, they were essentially just compatriots and not like the terrifying zombies depicted in movies. 0

Jiao An raised her gun and aimed with her scope. 0

Through her fourteen-times magnified holographic sight, she could clearly see countless gray zombies rushing towards them at an astonishing speed. 0

Jiao An slowly lowered her gun, feeling a chill run down her spine as a cold sweat trickled down. 0

"Let's go quickly; if my brothers and sisters really attack, I can't stop them alone," Miao Chengmin looked at An Xiaotian and Nars. "I can tell you that this murder case is not my doing but that of another zombie—one that possesses the power of Chaos Crystals. She revived the Mindless Corpses here, and her purpose..." 0

"Invasion," Nars said. 0

"Yes," Miao Chengmin said, "the Time-Space King intended for us to come here with the Chaos Crystals to protect the Life Crystals, but unfortunately, the Chaos Crystals haven't arrived yet; Ban Sa got here first." 0
"Our current mission, according to the King, is to protect this planet where we once lived." 0
"So, we are on the same side, right?" The weight in Nars's heart finally lifted. 0
Miao Chengmin turned and said, "Perhaps we have a spirit zombie that seems out of place with you humans, but as long as you know that we love this planet just like you do, we will be satisfied." 0
A powerful aura rose from beneath his feet, cracking the ground as Miao Chengmin shot into the sky like a cannonball, leaving everyone watching in awe. 0
M City Military Base 0
"Hey, how many days has it been..." 0
Qin Weishan lounged back in a chair, casually crossing his legs. He fumbled around on the table until he found the handle of a teacup and took a sip of Longjing tea, savoring its unique sweetness. 0
Qin Weishan felt quite aggrieved; why was he stuck waiting at the base while someone like Xu Yicheng, who was less experienced, got to stay? He thought it would make more sense for Lu Sha and Xu Yicheng to be on standby instead. 0
This was the first time he felt dissatisfied with An Xiaotian's arrangements. 0
Qin Weishan tried to shift his position but was immediately deterred by the soreness throughout his body, especially in his biceps, which felt like they were on strike and wouldn't cooperate at all. 0
In the last battle, Qin Weishan had truly pushed himself to his limits to break through Nian Gui's barrier. After more than ten days of recovery, the pain showed no signs of fading. He felt like an aging man; every day he lay down for eight or nine hours and relied on Xu Yicheng to bring him meals—he simply didn't have the strength to walk to the cafeteria. 0
"Maybe An Xiaotian is keeping me from going out because he knows I need rest," Qin Weishan thought, feeling somewhat comforted by this idea. 0
"Ah..." Qin Weishan pulled out his phone and scrolled through his contacts. Jiao An's profile picture was still gray and white. He really wanted to ask how things were going; what if something went wrong? No one could say for sure; in their line of work, they were always ready to lose their heads. 0
"Ding-dong." The doorbell rang unexpectedly. Qin Weishan glanced at the time on his phone—it was only a little past four. Could Dr. Xu Yicheng be bringing him food? 0
"Come in." 0
Qin Weishan pressed the button on his phone to unlock the door. As expected, Dr. Xu Yicheng entered, but he wasn't carrying a meal box. 0
"Dr. Xu," Qin Weishan struggled to sit up, but Xu Yicheng hurried over and pressed him back down, saying, "You need to rest properly; don't hurt yourself." 0
Qin Weishan laughed heartily and replied, "Am I someone who gets hurt so easily?" 0
Xu Yicheng patted his shoulder and got straight to the point: "I have good news for you; they have returned." 0
"They're back?!" Qin Weishan sat up abruptly, though his expression revealed some discomfort. 0
"Hey hey hey, don't get so excited; your health is important," Xu Yicheng exclaimed in surprise as he rushed forward to press him back down again. 0
"And apparently, they brought back very important news," Xu Yicheng continued. 0
