Speed is of the essence in warfare. Daniel decided to prepare since he was determined to face the challenge. Facing it head-on would only lead to a dead end, so he had to think of another way.
Daniel first visited Furnal's shop and brought back enough materials to start brewing potions. He made several, including Explosive Potion and highly toxic potions. He was determined to use his money to take down the Minotaur.
After three hours of preparation, Daniel set off for the Underworld. However, at the entrance, he received some bad news. Brook had already set off for the Underworld yesterday.
Daniel could only comfort himself, realizing that exterminating the Minotaur Tribe was not a task that could be completed in a day or two; it would take at least several months. Even if he had gone earlier, it wouldn't have made much difference.
Displaying his badge that represented his identity, the guard waved him through, allowing Daniel to enter the Passage.
The Passage itself was a circular hole with a diameter of several dozen meters, going straight down into the Underworld.
Surrounding the Passage were spiral stairs leading downward, spiraling endlessly into the depths below.
This design was mainly to conserve energy; the vertical distance from the surface to the Underworld was over ten miles, making it difficult for ordinary apprentices to enter. Thus, there were endless spiral stairs for people to ascend and descend.
At this moment, several apprentices were on the stairs preparing to go down. They saw Daniel and greeted him with smiles, saying, "Professor, are you also going to the Underworld?"
"Yes!"
"That's great! Why don't we go down together? The distance to the Underworld is over ten miles; it will take quite some time to walk there."
"We also need to stop for lunch and rest in the designated area in between. With such a long distance, it's very lonely to go alone; it's better to have someone to talk with."
Facing their invitation, Daniel smiled apologetically and said, "Thank you for your kindness, but I prefer to go alone."
Since that was the case, a few people did not insist and turned to walk down. However, they could not help but feel that Daniel looked down on them.
Since you want to walk alone in solitude, then go ahead and do so.
Looking down, the spiral staircase extended deep into the ground, with no end in sight. Daniel set down his backpack and, after a few adjustments, a parachute-like device unexpectedly appeared on his back.
This was also the reason why Daniel chose not to join them; he planned to descend directly using the parachute. It was much faster than walking.
With a leap, Daniel quickly descended through the central passage.
Listening to the wind howling past his ears and watching the walls blur into streaks due to the rapid fall, the thrill of his heartbeat was indescribable. A timid person might faint from fright.
After a while, Daniel pulled the parachute sharply and floated leisurely toward the ground below.
A few people were discussing why Daniel did not act with them, believing he looked down on them. Suddenly, they saw the parachute descending and were puzzled when they heard Daniel's cheerful laughter from above. "Everyone, I’ll go ahead!"
By the time they reacted, Daniel had already reached the bottom. The group exchanged glances; although they had never seen a parachute before, they knew of a spell called Falling Feather Technique that allowed one to float down lightly like a feather from great heights without injury.
However, it required magical power, which they had in limited supply and were reluctant to use up, so they chose to walk down the passage instead.
They did not expect that Daniel would invent such a method; it seemed they would need to learn it in the future.
Floating gently for several minutes, Daniel arrived in the Underworld, which was much more convenient than walking through the passage. He casually cast a Fireball Spell to burn away the parachute. Daniel oriented himself and headed south.
The Underworld was unlike the surface; it presented an entirely different scene. Surrounding him were wide passages that were dozens of meters high and incredibly spacious, while some were merely cracks in the ground.
One passage connected to another, intertwining like a dense spider web. A single passage could have dozens or even hundreds of exits leading in different directions. Those unfamiliar with the area could easily get lost.
At the end of the Passage, there connects a cave, large enough to rival an empire, towering hundreds of meters high, its formation a mystery.
This is a karst cave or cavern.
The Underworld lacks sunlight and relies on the moss growing on the surrounding cave walls. This moss emits a gentle glow, sufficient to illuminate the area without making it feel dark.
Daniel does not have such worries; he has long found the way to the Minotaur Tribe's Passage through his chip. As long as he follows the chip's guidance, he can reach the Minotaur Tribe.
The cave where the Minotaur Tribe resides is not small; it can compare to Daniel's Dover Duchy. The fact that they occupy such a large space in the narrow Underworld shows the strength of the Minotaur Tribe.
This is also where their confidence to resist the Flame Throne Wizard Academy comes from.
After spending two hours, Daniel arrives at the cave of the Minotaur Tribe. He then hides his figure and cautiously approaches the Minotaur Tribe, preparing to observe the situation before making any plans.
From a distance, he sees a column of black smoke rising in the far distance. Daniel's heart tightens; disregarding his concealment, he activates the Lightness Technique and rushes towards it.
Crossing over a mountain, he finds himself in a vast plain where the Minotaur Tribe is located. At this moment, what was once a quiet and peaceful tribe is now filled with rising black smoke. The entire tribe seems to be under bombardment as houses collapse one after another. Numerous towering Minotaurs, standing over three meters tall, are frantically trying to extinguish the fires.
Daniel speculates about who might have attacked them—could it be a rival tribe?
If that’s the case, he could join forces with them to jointly eliminate the Minotaur Tribe, which would be much easier than acting alone.
Noticing movement nearby, Daniel looks up and sees a group of Minotaurs approaching from a hundred meters away, led by several others wielding staffs, cursing as they head towards the tribe.
The voices of these Minotaurs are incredibly loud; even from this distance, Daniel can hear them clearly. They are speaking Ancient Baileyan Language, which is documented in his library. Although this is his first time hearing it, he takes note of their words and plans to compare them with his chip once they leave to quickly understand what the Minotaurs are discussing.
It turns out that they are being attacked by someone claiming to be from Flame Throne Wizard Academy. They are told to wait; this individual is just a scout, and soon others will come to destroy the Minotaur Tribe. This group of Minotaurs is pursuing the assailant under the guidance of a Minotaur Ritual but unfortunately has allowed him to escape.
At a critical moment in his competition for the Wizard Seed spot, such an incident occurred. Daniel immediately understood what was happening without a second thought.
It must be that damned Brook, who, after arriving in the Underworld, did not head to the northern Minotaur Tribe, but instead came here to cause trouble.
Eliminating an unguarded Minotaur Tribe is a completely different concept from attacking a heavily fortified tribe.
He was willing to go to any lengths to become a Wizard Seed.
Daniel was so angry that he ground his teeth, contemplating whether he should also create some trouble for him. Although Brook left first, Daniel was confident he could reach the northern Minotaur Tribe before him.
After thinking it over, Daniel abandoned this tempting plan.
He pondered how to annihilate the Minotaur Tribe. With the Minotaurs on high alert, a direct assault would be futile; even walking over would result in an attack. He did not want to be besieged.
Ultimately, Daniel decided to take advantage of the chaos and sneak in to take a look. “Amara Danguagen Ti Niutou.”
As he recited the incantation, Daniel's appearance suddenly changed; he grew taller, dense fur sprouted from his body, and a ring appeared on his nose. He looked just like a Minotaur.
This was precisely the Transmutation that Daniel had mastered. The specific incantation varied depending on what was being transformed. The more difficult the transformation, the greater the power required.
For instance, changing one's facial features required some power, but transforming a person into an animal demanded an extraordinary amount of magical energy.
After checking himself in the mirror, Daniel felt quite satisfied.
Now he was indeed a Minotaur of the Minotaur Tribe.
Noticing that he still lacked horns, Daniel reached up and touched his head, and two horns quickly sprouted out.
Daniel smeared some dirt on himself, making a mess, and changed into an outfit similar to that of the Minotaur Tribe before stepping into the tribe.
The reason he chose to be a Minotaur was that he currently lacked enough magical power to transform into a three-meter-tall Minotaur Warrior; the magical energy required was too great for him to handle, so he had to settle for the smaller Minotaur form.
Taking advantage of the chaos among the Minotaurs, who were busy tending to the wounded and extinguishing fires, Daniel easily blended in.
After wandering around for a couple of steps, a Minotaur shoved a large wooden basin into his hands, bellowing, "What are you running around for? Hurry up and fetch water to put out the fire!"
He even kicked Daniel.
Daniel had no choice but to carry the basin with his two hooves, moving around to extinguish fires and enthusiastically helping to treat the injured. While it seemed like he was doing well, he was actually observing the situation around the tribe, aiming to record all the details.
With a loud bellow from a bull, all the surrounding Minotaurs gathered toward the center of the tribe. Daniel hesitated for a moment, thinking about taking this opportunity to leave. However, another Minotaur grabbed him by the fur on the back of his neck and pulled him in a different direction.
He could only smile wryly and follow behind.
