Lisa had long known that there was considerable evidence against her, and at this moment, she needed to gain more sympathy and understanding through Claire's performance. She took a deep breath, then stood up and walked to the center of the courtroom, requesting to present evidence.
"Your Honor, members of the jury, I request that the defendant Claire Smith be allowed to personally explain some important details that are crucial to this case."
The prosecutor immediately raised his hand, interrupting, "Your Honor, this is yet another attempt by the defense attorney to blur the focus. We need to concentrate on the evidence, not the defendant's subjective statements."
Lisa did not back down; instead, she retorted loudly, "Your Honor, there are many details in this case. After detailed communication with the defendant, Claire is finally willing to let down her guard and face her mistakes honestly. However, now she just wants to express her grievances but is being oppressed by you men in power?"
Her words sparked a murmur in the courtroom, especially among the female members of the jury, whose eyes flashed with discontent and anger. Lisa was well aware of the terrifying extent of political correctness; as soon as an issue was raised to a feminist topic, it would become even more chaotic, which was exactly what she wanted.
"Members of the jury," Lisa continued, her tone firm and passionate, "we cannot ignore what Claire has experienced as a woman in this environment filled with pressure and control. She has finally mustered the courage to stand up and share her true feelings and experiences; this is something we should encourage and support, not further oppress and attack."
She deliberately focused her gaze on the female members of the jury, trying to resonate with them. "Claire is a woman struggling between love and pain; her story deserves to be heard. We cannot completely overlook her grievances because of her mistakes. I request that she be allowed to speak for herself; this is not only her right but also an opportunity we should grant her."
The judge frowned as he looked at Lisa before turning to the prosecutor. "Prosecutor, do you have anything to say?"
The prosecutor's expression tightened further, but he knew that continuing to oppose at this moment might backfire. He took a deep breath and said, "Your Honor, we oppose this blurring of focus, but we respect the court's decision."
The judge nodded and turned back to Lisa. "Defense attorney, you may proceed, but please note that what is needed here are facts and evidence."
Lisa nodded in thanks and then turned to Claire with an encouraging look in her eyes. "Claire, please tell us your true thoughts and experiences."
Claire stood up, a hint of unease on her face but determination in her eyes. She cleared her throat and began to recount her story. "Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I admit I made mistakes, but I hope you can understand everything I have been through."
Her voice trembled, but it was filled with sincerity. "The relationship between Mark and me is not simple. We were once in love, but after we broke up, I found it impossible to let him go. I know this is my fault, but I am not a cold-blooded murderer. I am just a woman struggling between love and pain."
Claire stood in the witness stand, her face showing a hint of unease, yet her eyes reflected determination. She cleared her throat and began to tell her story.
"Members of the jury," her voice shook, but it was sincere, "I admit I made mistakes, but I hope you can understand everything I went through. Mark and I met at church when we were both young and full of hope for the future."
She paused for a moment, a glimmer of memory flashing in her eyes. "We quickly fell in love and shared many wonderful times together. But our relationship was not always smooth; it had its ups and downs, often filled with arguments and misunderstandings."
Claire continued, "Later on, we broke up, but Mark still cared about me. He knew I was struggling financially, so he often invited me to his house to help with chores in exchange for money. He didn’t completely abandon me, which made me feel grateful towards him."
At that moment, the prosecutor could no longer sit still; he stood up angrily and interrupted, "Your Honor, this is yet another distraction. This has nothing to do with the case. What we need are facts and evidence directly related to the case, not these irrelevant statements."
The judge frowned and looked at Claire and Lisa. Lisa immediately stood up and retorted loudly, "Your Honor, these statements are not irrelevant. Claire is explaining her relationship with Mark, which is crucial for understanding her motivations and emotional state. We need a comprehensive understanding of this relationship to fairly adjudicate this case."
Claire slightly lowered her head before continuing, "I know I made mistakes, but I truly hope you can understand my situation at that time. I am not a cold-blooded murderer; I am just a woman struggling between love and pain. Although Mark sometimes treated me well, our relationship was unstable, which left me feeling very confused and hurt."
Her voice grew softer as if she were lost in deep memories. "I know these things may sound trivial, but they genuinely affected my emotions and actions. I hope you can see into my heart and understand my pain."
The judge took a deep breath and turned to the prosecutor: "Prosecutor, I understand your concerns, but I believe it is necessary for the defendant to fully express her experiences. This will help us gain a more comprehensive understanding of the case."
Just as the prosecutor was about to voice his dissatisfaction again, a wave of female shouting suddenly erupted from the back of the gallery.
"Male oppression!"
"This is typical male hegemony!"
"Let her speak!"
Several radical feminists stood up, protesting loudly, and their voices quickly stirred unrest in the courtroom. The judge banged the gavel several times, trying to restore order.
"Silence! Silence! This is a courtroom, not a protest site!" the judge warned loudly, his face showing clear displeasure.
But the women did not stop immediately; their protests remained loud and resolute, further intensifying the tense and chaotic atmosphere in the courtroom.
Lisa wore an expressionless face, but inside she felt a sense of pride. She knew that the appearance of these radical feminists was no coincidence; it was part of her carefully orchestrated plan. The radical feminists she had gathered were incredibly useful, and their protests and support were exactly what she needed.
The judge banged the gavel again, finally managing to quiet the room. He turned to the protesting women and sternly said, "If there is any more behavior like this, I will ask the bailiffs to remove you!"
Reluctantly, the women sat down, but their gazes remained filled with anger and defiance. Lisa knew that their support had successfully drawn the jury's attention, especially from the female jurors, whose expressions had become more complex and contemplative.
The prosecutor's face darkened; he realized that this trial had become even more difficult and chaotic. Claire and Lisa were not only playing emotional cards in court but also leveraging external public pressure, making the entire situation increasingly unpredictable.
