From a distance, Fierce Eagle and Blue Face Hero were seen entangled with Zombie King. However, Nightmare and Madwoman lacked the ability to fly and could only run quickly. Fierce Eagle took off directly into the air and, while soaring upward, witnessed Blue Face Hero being struck and plummeting down. Without hesitation, Fierce Eagle ascended rapidly, drew his battle sword, transformed it into gun form, and shot down the attackers pursuing them. Yet, he had no time to retract his battle sword.
In a moment of desperation, Fierce Eagle tossed the battle sword aside and reached out to catch Blue Face Hero as he fell before him.
Feeling the embrace, Blue Face Hero sensed something was off but knew this wasn't the time for doubts. Like a parachute opening, they slowly descended to the ground.
"Oh my God! You scared me to death! Xiaotian, I thought I would never see you again!" Blue Face Hero exclaimed, one eye normal while the other was a strange hue. He clung to Fierce Eagle like a long-lost father, resting his chin on his shoulder and gasping for breath.
"I won't let you die; don't worry," An Xiaotian said as he unlocked his helmet and ruffled Liu Xuan's hair. There were countless things he wanted to say to Liu Xuan, but only those words escaped his lips.
Since childhood, An Xiaotian had always protected and cared for Liu Xuan as if he were his own brother. Whenever Liu Xuan was bullied at school, An Xiaotian was the first to stand up for him, using his significantly stronger physique to shield Liu Xuan from harm.
Thus, even from a brotherly perspective, he couldn't bear the thought of anything happening to Liu Xuan. Protecting Liu Xuan had become second nature to him.
From a broader perspective, apart from General Jiang, An Xiaotian understood better than anyone that their Defenders Alliance's strength relied heavily on Liu Xuan's other soul, Nars, which accounted for a quarter of their power. In terms of combat ability, this Blue Face Hero duo was undoubtedly the strongest among the Defenders and also had the best understanding of their opponents.
If Blue Face Hero were to sacrifice himself, An Xiaotian couldn't fathom how the Defenders would confront God Killer Ban Sa. He would rather sacrifice himself than allow any harm to come to Liu Xuan.
"Wow—"
Liu Xuan pulled his head away from An Xiaotian's shoulder as they both turned to look at Lu Sha and Jiao An standing behind them. Lu Sha had her arms crossed and her lips pursed into a small circle, her gaze mischievous.
After all, they were still being watched by the Top Secret Guard Team.
"Ahem, um…" Liu Xuan quickly wriggled free from An Xiaotian's embrace as his human eye returned to its moonlight white state. Nars was about to explain what had just happened when he noticed Jiao An couldn't hold back her laughter either. He found himself at a loss for words—he felt utterly embarrassed for Liu Xuan.
"Alright, alright, just smile about it," An Xiaotian urged himself to be serious as both ladies quickly composed themselves and looked at Nars.
The guards instinctively formed two lines, ready for action.
"I suspect that person is the culprit," Nars pointed towards Zombie King Miao Chengmin's fallen direction. "However, this case is no longer important; everything behind it has left me utterly shocked."
Nars raised his hand to show everyone the Chaos Crystals he had caught with his grappling hook. "He was holding this; he must be an envoy of Chaos Crystals from the demon realm. I don't understand why he brought Chaos Crystals here to Vamulel. If I were still in Kumul, I might have known the reason; but now, I must ask him personally."
"So he's a bad guy?" Lu Sha asked.
"Not necessarily," Nars replied with his fist against his lips. "I suspect it's because Ban Sa is searching for Chaos Crystals in the demon realm that forced him to relocate them. Moreover, if he truly wanted to kill me just now, he had every opportunity but chose not to."
An Xiaotian nodded as his helmet suddenly morphed around his head. "In that case, let's go find him and get some answers."
"He will come; there's no need to rush," Nars said. "We just need to be prepared. Everyone, until we confirm whether he's good or evil, give him some breathing room."
With four against one, Nars believed he could hold his own against Miao Chengmin without much trouble.
"Ugh—"
A furious roar echoed from the sky nearby.
"He's coming, prepare!" Fierce Eagle immediately issued the command.
A black shadow streaked across the sky, rising from the edge of the forest like a shooting star or a high-explosive shell fired from a cannon, its target aimed directly at the spot where the four stood!
"Scatter!" Fierce Eagle shouted as the Defenders quickly dodged in all directions, clearing a space. The guard team also spread out, expertly loading their weapons.
The black shadow seemed intent on crashing down into this very space—
"Boom!"
The shadow hit the ground, sending a tremor through the Defenders' feet, reverberating with a sense of earth-shattering force. Gray smoke billowed up as a powerful shockwave radiated outward.
Nightmare nearly toppled over from the overwhelming shockwave. Without a moment's hesitation, she drew her dagger from her waist and plunged it into the ground, kneeling half down, engulfed in the swirling yellow dust.
The shockwave lasted several seconds before finally subsiding. When Nightmare opened her eyes, her first glance was toward Madwoman beside her. Madwoman had also driven her Chain Spear into the earth, mirroring Nightmare's stance almost perfectly.
"Sasa, are you okay?" Nightmare asked.
Madwoman gave her an OK sign and pointed behind them. "Those guys seem to be out of it."
Nightmare turned to look. The members of the guard team lacked Jiao An's skill, Lu Sha's strength, and did not possess the high-tech advantages of An Xiaotian or Liu Xuan; none of them could stand anymore.
Fierce Eagle was protected by armor and had barely been affected; Blue Face Hero's Storm Armor was already working hard to keep him steady. The four slowly regained their composure and saw the creature that had created the shockwave standing in their midst.
Zombie King stood within the circle formed by the four Defenders. Aside from Blue Face Hero behind him, he scanned left to right at the other three Defenders.
"A group?" Zombie King asked.
No one answered him; all the Defenders had taken their stances, readying their tinderboxes.
Zombie King sighed. "Don't be like this; we can talk this out."
"Hey, that's my line," Blue Face Hero interjected.
Zombie King turned to see the Chaos Crystals in Blue Face Hero's hand.
"Give it back!" Zombie King said, struggling to suppress his anger, his tone almost pleading. "Don't you know how important this crystal is for the future of the universe... Please, brother."
"I certainly do," Blue Face Hero replied coolly. "But I want an explanation. If you cooperate with us, I'll return it."
"Give it back," Zombie King snapped, his demeanor shifting instantly as he reached out his hand, clearly unconcerned with Blue Face Hero's request. "Don't push me."
"I'm not pushing you," Blue Face Hero responded firmly.
Zombie King scoffed as he began to gather reverse Cosmic Energy in his other hand.
"Bang!"
A strong force hit the back of Zombie King's head, causing him to stagger and touch the hole that had been pierced through. Through the scope, Nightmare saw that the hole actually healed just like that.
Zombie King turned around and instantly teleported in front of the still-reacting Nightmare, lightly striking Nightmare in the abdomen. Nightmare flew away like he was hit by a rocket, crashing into the bushes over there.
" Sister Jiao An!"
Madwoman immediately acted, shooting a Chain spear that pierced directly into Zombie King's collarbone as he turned.
Even with his quick reflexes, Zombie King couldn't avoid the gunpoint that was already in front of him. The gunpoint drove straight into the flesh above his collarbone, and as Zombie King grabbed the chain, he realized there were spikes on it and instinctively pulled his hand away. Madwoman retracted the chain, and Zombie King, unable to steady himself, was pulled along with it. At the same time, Madwoman took a few steps toward the incoming Zombie King, using the momentum to deliver a flying kick that sent Zombie King soaring into the air. Then she leaped up again, swinging the chain covered in spikes, which struck Zombie King's face and knocked him down to the ground.
"Ugh..." Zombie King fell to the ground, face-first, and although he couldn't feel pain, it was still quite uncomfortable for him.
"Wait, Lu Sha!" Fierce Eagle shouted, but Madwoman seemed not to hear him and rushed forward, wanting to take advantage of Zombie King still being down.
But Zombie King was no small fry; he raised his face and saw Madwoman charging at him. He rolled to the left to dodge her lethal strike—the sickle-shaped Chain spear that she swung down at his neck—and then effortlessly pushed himself up with both hands. Madwoman maintained her previous stance of "I won't stop until I kill you," without thinking twice before shooting her Chain spear at Zombie King.
The initial speed of the Chain spear could rival that of a bullet leaving the chamber, but even at such speed, at this close distance, it seemed like Zombie King had anticipated her move; he dodged early and caught the chain with a sideways grab—he wasn't afraid of the spikes on it since he couldn't feel pain anyway.
"What the hell?!" Madwoman was shocked to see him evade and grab hold of the spiked chain without hesitation.
"Huh?"
Zombie King suddenly froze; that voice... why was it so familiar... He looked sharply at the girl named Lu Sha. Her voice was too much like that of his own girl from long ago.
"What are you looking at, disgusting thing! You bastard without eyeballs!" Madwoman, realizing she couldn't break free from him, became increasingly frustrated. She turned back—she wanted to call for help—but what shocked her was that Fierce Eagle had disappeared, and Blue Face Hero seemed to be assembling some weapon. However, to prevent a sneak attack from Zombie King, he had to keep an eye on his nearby Chaos Crystals while assembling as quickly as possible.
"Please hurry!" Madwoman shouted toward him.
Gradually, she noticed that her legs were bending involuntarily; she trembled all over as if all her strength amounted to only a fraction of her opponent's.
Zombie King had completely gained the upper hand.
