Everyone looked up as a figure glowing with a faint blue light slowly descended. The color of the moonlight in his left eye became increasingly bright as he lowered himself. Just before touching the ground, the Thruster on his back stopped working, and Liu Xuan gently landed with a soft thud. Liu Xuan and Nars appeared as if they had come from the horizon; aside from the sound of his scarf-like cloak fluttering in the wind, his arrival was remarkably calm and elegant.
"Hello..." Mayor Tan regained his composure from the awe brought by Liu Xuan and extended his hand in greeting.
"Liu Xuan and Nars reporting to you, Mayor," Liu Xuan said with a slight smile as he reached out his hand. However, a loud bang shattered the utopian atmosphere. Mayor Tan felt as if the ground was collapsing beneath him; dust instantly rose to form a gray smoke ring, reminiscent of a missile exploding above its target. The Secretary shrank back in fear, letting out a silent scream, while everyone else instinctively recoiled, quickly covering their eyes. The stone slabs beneath their feet shook violently like springs, and once it settled, they could see who had arrived—An Xiaotian piloting the Fierce Eagle Armor appeared beside Liu Xuan. As he stood up, his helmet unlocked, revealing An Xiaotian's face to Mayor Tan. It was clear that he exuded a unique military aura of confidence and determination.
"Uh, sorry, I couldn't control my flying speed; I came in a bit too fast..." An Xiaotian quickly apologized upon seeing how startled everyone was.
"It's alright; I'm honored to meet you in my lifetime," Mayor Tan brushed off An Xiaotian's mishap with a smile and extended his hand to him. "May I ask how to address you?"
"Alliance Captain, An Xiaotian," An Xiaotian replied as he shook hands with Mayor Tan. He still felt somewhat guilty but couldn't find an excuse for his actions and glanced at Liu Xuan.
Liu Xuan looked puzzled and silently asked him: What do you want?
"It’s mainly because that guy ahead was flying too fast; I was afraid I wouldn't catch up. Plus, the armor is heavy, and I haven't used the Fierce Eagle armor for some time; I couldn't control it well at first," An Xiaotian continued explaining to Mayor Tan.
"Six," Liu Xuan rolled his eyes.
Mayor Tan didn't respond much to An Xiaotian's explanation. It was his first time meeting The Celestial Warriors, and he was somewhat surprised but accepted it internally. After General Jiang introduced several people to him, Mayor Tan led the five of them toward the meeting room in City Hall.
"Hmm?" Before entering the building, Lu Sha tapped on An Xiaotian's armor. Understanding her cue, An Xiaotian pressed on the energy core and stepped out of the armor.
"Remember to pay for the damages," Jiao An said as she walked past him, gesturing for him to look down—he had left a large dent in the rooftop floor. General Jiang then assigned An Xiaotian a task: "Since you've brought your armor here, take good care of it; figure it out yourself."
General Jiang's tone was displeased when he said this, clearly believing that An Xiaotian's earlier behavior was immature and disrespectful. He appointed An Xiaotian as captain because he saw maturity in him, yet sometimes An Xiaotian acted like an impulsive youth without considering consequences. Once everyone left the rooftop and only he remained there dazed, An Xiaotian realized that he had indeed been irresponsible; if someone had been hurt, this meeting would have taken on a different significance. He glanced at those ahead of him before turning back toward the Fierce Eagle Armor standing in the inner cabin on the rooftop; at least he needed to secure it properly instead of leaving it there carelessly.
Thus, except for An Xiaotian, everyone else arrived at the meeting room waiting for Mayor Tan to brief them on the latest information. Along the way, they encountered an elderly man who came every day looking for his son; he cried out "Xiao Shi where have you gone?" and was escorted away from the Mayor's office area by security personnel. Jiao An asked Mayor Tan if those missing in this incident had the surname Shi. Mayor Tan nodded and indicated that the police were baffled by that video; there were too few clues left behind and they didn't dare seek public help due to how disturbing the video appeared.
"Here's what happened," Mayor Tan explained after everyone sat down. "A man named Shi Jinwen has been missing for an entire week now without any leads; it's become even more mysterious—some even believe it's not human involvement. General Jiang, all the geographical information and local legends you requested are included in the intelligence brief I've prepared; feel free to take a look."
Meanwhile, outside there were crisp sounds of armor scraping against stairs as An Xiaotian dragged his armor down step by step from the rooftop.
"I've never hated this armor so much..." An Xiaotian grumbled while pulling along this treasured piece that had accompanied him through thick and thin, bending down cautiously while keeping an eye on the hallway to ensure no one noticed him as he continued moving slowly forward.
"Where's Brother Xiaotian?" Lu Sha asked distractedly while glancing around instead of focusing on the report.
"He'll be here soon," General Jiang replied. "I know what he's up to; let him be."
"Chasing girls?" Lu Sha mused seriously but confusedly. "But he has a girlfriend."
Jiao An quickly shushed her: "Can you stop being so adorably silly?"
Liu Xuan was seriously flipping through documents prepared by the Mayor when he suddenly posed a question: "How long have those bodies been buried?"
"This cemetery has only recently been established; if we count from its first day of use, the longest buried might be only two years at most, but it can no longer accommodate more deceased," Mayor Tan answered.
Liu Xuan put down the documents after listening and began to ponder. Nars activated his personality, resting his hand on his chin as he added, "You forgot to mention, Mr. Mayor. The climate in U City is relatively dry, so within two years, a body may not completely decompose into a skeleton. This means the perpetrator desires these barely intact corpses."
"I'm sorry, I thought it wasn't important," Mayor Tan explained, surprised to see Liu Xuan's left eye turn a moonlight color. Next to him, Secretary lowered her head—70% of this document was written by her.
Liu Xuan's eyes gradually filled with gentle white moonlight. Nars raised his head and said to everyone, "I have a hypothesis, but you need to be mentally prepared."
"Go ahead, Mr. Nars," General Jiang said.
"This isn't grave robbing; the bodies can't just rise from the ground on their own. They must be driven by energy; they are vessels of energy without souls or consciousness. Their personalities and affiliations are entirely determined by their creator," Nars explained. "In our history among the Kumler People, there was once a riot—one who absorbed negative energy from the second layer of Yulou, a member of the Demon Domain People, came to the colonies outside of internal Human territory and used his power to make dead bodies stand again. He didn't dig up corpses from graves; he targeted the fallen on the battlefield. The energy he possessed had absolute control over the laws of our dimension, allowing him to alter most natural laws single-handedly. Those under his command were extremely violent, with no skills other than slaughtering. This entire Soulless Army was used as weapons for his crimes—he violated the fundamental laws of the Star Alliance, which respect the deceased. Later, he turned his sights on our shared home of Kumul, which is the moon, leading to the only time in our two races' history that we united to confront this riot."
"What were their methods of attack? Biting?" Lu Sha asked, her question reminding everyone of something; Secretary had already covered her mouth with her hand.
"They would, but that's not their only method of attack," Nars stated seriously. "I'll speak frankly."
"Oh my god, it can't be..." Jiao An recalled terrifying scenes from movies.
"Are there really zombies?!" Secretary broke down, leaning against the glass wall and nearly collapsing as her legs gave way. Seeing this, Mayor Tan hurriedly stepped forward to support her.
"What are zombies?" Nars asked with some confusion; he was unaware of how Earthlings defined such creatures. However, no one present wanted to answer him; it seemed they were all reluctant to mention "zombie", especially now that they learned such things truly existed in the world.
"Thanks to Mr. Mayor's documents, I now have a rough outline of this case," Nars said as he looked at General Jiang. "The incident occurred over a week ago; I need to go investigate the scene immediately and inform Xiaotian. We need to set off right away."
Suddenly, there was a knock at the door outside. Secretary jumped up and hid behind Mayor Tan. An Xiaotian, sweating profusely, stood at the door and asked, "Can I come in?"
General Jiang exchanged glances with Nars. "Xiaotian, thank you for your help; you can prepare for takeoff now. The beginning of this mission is crucial, and you are that beginning."
An Xiaotian's body rose and fell with each breath as his eyes scanned everyone's faces starting from Nars, finally letting out a long sigh: "Should I go put on my armor?"
"Yes."
"Better obey than disrespect our knowledgeable strategist," An Xiaotian replied sarcastically before turning back to drag the Fierce Eagle Armor onto the rooftop.
In the mountains and forests of U City, following the river, Miao Chengmin led a group of zombies closer to the city's edge. In the distance along the roadside was a cemetery; according to instructions from Time-Space Realm King Sogfiel, this would be where their last batch of compatriots would report in. The Spirit Corps could slowly grow flesh on their own, so when choosing a location, the king did not consider how long it would take for bodies to decompose.
Miao Chengmin tapped his own sun point, causing a light map to unfold before him. He carefully adjusted it and turned sideways for everyone to gather around and look.
"Do you see?" Miao Chengmin pointed toward the faintly visible road in the north. "That’s where we’re headed—the cemetery is just ahead! Hold on! Once we welcome them, we can find ourselves a home!"
"I hope so," George said as he leaned against a tree trunk. "I don't want to walk anymore."
George shifted his gaze from the dirt beneath his feet to the distance and suddenly squinted as if he had discovered something. Tilting his head slightly toward the nearby Zombie Horde, he confirmed that no compatriots were watching him before quietly stepping forward for a closer look. He saw a shadow deep within the forest that had strange droplets growing on it; however, it did not notice him as it left areas with better visibility in the woods under George's watchful eye.
"We're almost there!" Miao Chengmin called out ahead.
Curiosity drove George to take a few steps closer to the forest, but upon hearing Miao Chengmin's call, he snapped back to reality and hurried back into the moving group.
From a bird's-eye view, if the forest wasn't too dense, the movement of over four hundred zombies was strikingly obvious. A large mass of them moved slowly through the woods, resembling a giant worm, gradually surrounding the cemetery near the road as if it were swallowing something.
"Let's take a break, everyone. Just don't wander too far! I'll go greet them," Miao Chengmin said.
"Hey, Brother Chengmin..." a zombie called out to him, "something seems off here."
Miao Chengmin turned around, and the scene before him left him utterly stunned.
All the tombstones were scattered on the ground, broken and shattered as if crushed by something. The burial pits had all been dug up, with not a single one left untouched. The dense footprints sent chills down his spine; it seemed something significant had occurred here. Miao Chengmin stepped carefully on these prints, glancing around as a shiver ran down his back. The zombies surrounding the cemetery watched him intently, as if fearing that some monster might suddenly appear and take him away.
"What happened..." Miao Chengmin recalled that female demon, her arrogant face, and the creature carrying his brother Tu Jiaomin's corpse. At that moment, he was completely dumbfounded. Under the gaze of his companions, he walked step by step to the center of the graveyard and suddenly shouted at the sky:
"Without Chaos Crystals, how did she manage to do this?!"
