Song Zhenbao quickly answered Pearl's question; she seemed not to be visiting but rather demonstrating.
"I plan to introduce some crocodiles into our Fish Pond, and later establish a crocodile breeding base at the Ecological Aquaculture Farm. Some of these crocodiles can be kept as pets for tourists, while others will end up on the dining table, generating income several times more than Pearl Fish. However, crocodiles are very dangerous animals, so after careful consideration, I still need Dad to come back and help."
"Breeding crocodiles?" Song Pearl's eyes were filled with astonishment and a hint of inquiry. "Have you done any research? Our Ecological Aquaculture Farm isn't very large, and crocodiles have a big appetite. The few fish in Nanhu Fish Pond probably won't be enough for them!"
"We can start with a small number of them, just for tourists to admire. When the wind blows and the water moves, a few crocodiles swimming around and occasionally opening their massive jaws will definitely be thrilling and exciting, appealing to modern people's adventurous curiosity."
Song Zhenbao was full of enthusiasm.
Song Pearl listened silently; she understood Song Zhenbao's intention. The Ecological Aquaculture Farm would undergo comprehensive reforms in the future. If they raised crocodiles, it was likely that geese, ducks, and fish would no longer be raised.
She found it strange that Song Zhenbao suddenly had such a strong interest in the Ecological Aquaculture Farm.
"I'll introduce a few wolves to the back mountain after the meetings. I've already instructed the security personnel to set up defenses around the area, but you still need to be cautious," Song Zhenbao continued.
"Raising wolves?" Song Pearl was stunned by Treasure's bold idea and immediately opposed it. "Do you think our Ecological Aquaculture Farm is a zoo? Or that we can treat wolves like dogs? Wolves are not easy to raise! The back mountain is too close to the villagers' residential area; it's too unsafe."
Song Zhenbao laughed. "The villagers of Song Family Village will soon move away; this piece of land has already been bought by the Qing Family. The residents are cooperating because they heard wolves are coming!"
Song Pearl straightened up. "How could I not know about these things?"
"You've been too busy with your research on special animal breeding to pay attention. Besides, you don't need to know these things; just execute them," Song Zhenbao said, lifting her chin and smiling like a proud red-crowned crane.
"Alright, are you two sisters here to discuss business? Let Pearl rest well," Liu Cuiying interrupted Song Zhenbao from continuing. "As for work matters, let's focus on happy things at home."
Tian Yue brought in the washed fruits into the bedroom and smiled at Liu Cuiying. "You really have two wonderful daughters; it's enviable. Pearl shouldn't sit too long; you've injured your head and need to lie down more."
Song Pearl smiled and lay back down on the bed. Song Zhenbao still had many things to say, but seeing her tired expression, he left with Tian Yue to sit in the living room for a while before departing.
The room fell silent as Song Pearl stared up at the ceiling. If some dangerous Wildlife were released into the Ecological Aquaculture Farm, it would mean that Wang Ziyan's Animal Husbandry project could not continue, and she would face unemployment.
Raising livestock and breeding wild animals were completely different matters. Song Zhenbao aimed to develop the back mountain into a hunting ground, relocating all of Song Family Village. How much of the current planting and breeding projects could still be maintained?
Thinking about this made her feel restless. This unease persisted until Qing Wenyu returned home from work in the evening.
“Is what Song Zhenbao said true?” Song Pearl asked.
“Yes, the Resort and the Ecological Aquaculture Farm belong to her; she has decision-making power.” Qing Wenyu loosened his tie and sat next to Song Pearl. “Shouldn't you change the dressing on that wound?”
“No need,” Song Pearl touched the bandage on her head. “It’s just a scrape; it’s fine without a dressing.”
Her mind was still on Song Zhenbao. “I hope you will terminate your cooperation with Song Zhenbao. Since you know it’s a trap, you shouldn’t work with her. But it seems you are still determined to go along with it. Do you have some feelings for her?”
“What feelings could I have for her?” Qing Wenyu chuckled lightly, gently patting her head. “If I had any thoughts, it would only be about using her funds.”
“A slave to money,” Song Pearl shot him a glare, disdainfully.
Qing Wenyu did not respond directly but smiled.
“Now that you know her intentions, there’s nothing to worry about. I told you this because I saw you were restless and didn’t want you to remain in the dark. But it seems you are still overthinking things.”
Song Pearl pressed her lips together; she didn’t know why she suddenly couldn’t tolerate Song Zhenbao’s actions. Was it because of the breeding proposal she suggested or her suspicions towards her?
Since Qing Wenyu didn’t understand, Song Pearl decided to find Wu Qiang. After breakfast the next day, she slipped out while Tian Yue wasn’t looking.
"Do you suspect that the car accident is related to Song Zhenbao?" Wu Qiang sat by the Fish Pond, holding his fishing rod, looking far from his usual relaxed self; instead, he wore a deep frown. "She brought Song Shiting and his wife to the Fish Pond for a tour, and even invited me to lunch with them. I didn't notice anything unusual. Could it be that she's getting impatient and planning something?"
"I only have my suspicions. Luckily, I'm still alive," Song Pearl said with a self-deprecating smile. "Where did Zhang Yunye run off to? I need to discuss something with him."
"Looking for me?" Just as Song Pearl finished speaking, Zhang Yunye's cheerful voice came from behind. She turned around to see him holding a transparent glass fish tank containing two brightly colored Red Fish, a mischievous smile on his handsome face.
"What’s going on?" he asked with a grin, cradling the large glass tank in his hands.
This person always had a playful demeanor; he hadn't changed at all over the years. There was never a hint of sorrow in his eyes.
"What are you doing with that?" Song Pearl was drawn in by the fish tank, temporarily forgetting her earlier question.
"This is the fish I just caught!" Zhang Yunye laughed as he lifted the tank. "Can you guess where I caught them?"
"Well, it definitely wasn't on the mountain," Song Pearl replied sarcastically.
"Very clever!" Zhang Yunye winked. "I caught them in the hot springs! While swimming in the hot spring area, I scooped these two fish out of the water. Could they be fake? Your hot springs seem to be artificial; are there really fish in there?"
"The hot spring water and the Fish Pond are connected," Song Pearl said, glancing at the two fish in the tank. "It's normal for fish to swim from the Fish Pond into the hot springs."
"I see!" Zhang Yunye nodded and walked to the edge of the pond with the fish tank. "So your hot spring service also sells fish tanks just to scam tourists! That's quite creative!"
"It will be even more creative in the future!" Song Pearl shot him a cool glance as he wobbled on the stones. "Who knows, maybe next time you go to the hot springs for a bath, a crocodile will pop out of the pool!"
"Really?" Zhang Yunye's eyes lit up. "Encountering a crocodile while bathing sounds fun!"
Song Pearl was left speechless by him. It seemed that Song Zhenbao was right; raising crocodiles in the Fish Pond could stimulate consumption and cater to people's adventurous curiosity—indeed, it was true.
But who will take responsibility for the risks involved?
"Let's not discuss this anymore." Wu Qiang put away his fishing rod, deciding not to continue fishing today, even though he hadn't caught a single fish. "Zhenzhu has important matters to attend to."
"Right!" Zhang Yunye held an empty fish tank, looking around before finally placing it on the ground beside him. "Is there anything you need help with?"
"When can you withdraw your funds and stop cooperating with Song Zhenbao?" Song Pearl asked Zhang Yunye but looked at Wu Qiang. "The actions have already been exposed; isn't it time to back off?"
"Withdraw funds?" Zhang Yunye frowned. "That's not possible right now. I signed a five-year contract with Song Zhenbao. The losses from breaching the contract would be too great. What's wrong? Has Song Zhenbao suddenly become a threat to you?"
He raised an eyebrow and stared at Song Pearl.
Isn't this what they wanted to see?
"I just don't want to watch her squander money recklessly," Song Pearl said, her gaze fixed on the geese swimming on the surface of the Fish Pond.
"Recklessly? Is she planning to raise crocodiles?" Zhang Yunye asked.
"Yes," Song Pearl nodded. "From now on, this will no longer be an Ecological Aquaculture Farm; it will become a Wildlife activity area, a large hunting ground."
"This girl is something else! She really has ambition!" Zhang Yunye exclaimed.
"I'm not here to listen to you praise her!" A sense of unrecognized sorrow welled up in Song Pearl's heart. Were she and Song Zhenbao destined to be entangled like this forever?
Did Song Zhenbao have to live under her nose and disgust her? They had already lost all connection, yet the person closest to her still brought her near, constantly influencing her emotions.
"I'll say this: you two should handle your issues with Song Zhenbao yourselves." Wu Qiang stood up, his deep gaze filled with affection. "Anything related to money isn't a big deal! Human hearts are the hardest to gauge. I'll say it again: if Qing Wenyu changes her mind, Zhang Yunye is your best option!"
Looking at Wu Qiang's expression and listening to his calm and unperturbed words, Song Pearl was unsure whether to be angry or to laugh; it seemed she had made a mistake by coming to find them.
Should she go check out Qing Wenyu's company? She hadn't entered the Hongqing Group's doors in many years. In just two short years, Qing Wenyu had transformed it into Qing Corporation. During this time, she, Song Pearl, had been an outsider, while the person fighting alongside him was Song Zhenbao.
If every successful man has a woman supporting him, then it was Song Zhenbao who supported him, not herself. Ironically, the one who provided Song Zhenbao with confidence and support was her own biological father.
When the receptionist saw Song Pearl storming in, she quickly stood up and asked her, "Excuse me, ma'am, who are you looking for?"
Song Pearl glanced at the fair-skinned girl who had stopped her; she must have just graduated. The girl looked young and delicate, clearly not recognizing her. However, there were not many in the Qing Family who knew her!
"I'm here to see your chairman about something."
"I'm sorry, but the chairman is on a business trip out of town and won't be back for a few days," the girl replied politely. "May I ask who you are?"
"Then what about Song General Manager?"
"Song General Manager is also on a business trip with the chairman. If you had come half an hour earlier, you might have caught them before they boarded the plane." (To be continued.)
