Wang Ziyan did not expect this seemingly refined elder to be so impolite, asking her, a girl he just met, to help kill a chicken! Is this really Song Pearl's father? It seems he has a similar way of thinking as Song Pearl...
Although she thought this way, she still agreed readily.
“Uncle, could you please get a plate to catch the chicken's blood?”
“Sure. The knife is here.” Wu Qiang placed the knife on the well platform, “Catch it, this chicken is hard to kill!” he warned.
“It’s fine, its legs are tied!”
Wang Ziyan grabbed the chicken's wings and comb with one hand, while with the other hand she plucked some feathers from its neck and picked up the knife on the well platform. Actually, killing a chicken is quite simple as long as the knife is sharp enough.
However, just as the knife fell onto the chicken's neck, something strange happened. Instead of feeling soft tendons and organs, she felt something hard like bone.
She even heard a thud when the knife hit the chicken's neck.
Before Wang Ziyan could figure out what was going on, the chicken had already slipped out of her control and flapped its wings to run away.
When Wu Qiang came out holding the plate, he saw Wang Ziyan chasing after the rooster that was fleeing all over the Yard.
“Hey, Girl, didn’t you say you’ve killed chickens before?” Wu Qiang called out with amusement.
Wang Ziyan was furious; this person seemed young but acted like a madman!
How could she help him kill a chicken!
This is insane!
She angrily shook her hand, refusing to believe she couldn't catch a chicken with its legs tied!
The spotted rooster might have been overly frightened; although the Yard gate was not closed, it only circled around the wall, showing no awareness of escaping through the yard gate. However, due to its struggles, the rope on its feet had come loose.
A middle-aged fat man beside Jin Weicheng said, "This Fish Pond is built quite well. It looks completely natural, with no signs of artificial construction at all. It would be a pity if it were filled in like this!"
"Fish Pond is indeed nice," another person shook his head, "but there are few tourists here, which is a shame for such a good place. If it were moved into our city, it could definitely make a fortune... Isn't there a goose taking a bath?"
He suddenly asked.
There wasn't a single duck on the calm surface of the pond, let alone a goose.
Several people quietly fishing by the pond frowned when they heard these loud and reckless remarks, but no one paid them any attention.
Of course, Jin Mai's high-ranking officials looked down on talking to these unidentified people.
"Maybe they know we're coming to fill the lake and got scared away!" someone joked.
Jin Weicheng walked ahead, focusing his attention on that residence. He had already inquired about it during his last visit. Song Pearl's hometown was right here; she was sentimental and had kept this residence, often staying here alone before getting married.
After Wu Qiang went bankrupt and sold his house, he moved into this Yard.
A faint smile appeared on Jin Weicheng's lips. Song Pearl probably hadn't thought that after the Resort transferred to Jin Mai's name, Wu Qiang wouldn't be able to live here anymore.
As he reached the entrance of the Yard, he heard the sounds of chaos mixed with a woman's shrill scream. Curious, he peeked into the Yard and saw a slender and stylishly dressed beauty chasing after a colorful rooster.
Meanwhile, the former chairman of Jin Mai, Wu Qiang, stood at the bottom of the corridor with a plate in hand, smiling as if he were admiring a beautiful painting.
"This woman looks pretty good!" was Jin Weicheng's first thought.
"Who is she? Wu Qiang's maid? Even in such dire straits, he can still afford such a beautiful maid. He was so clean-cut during his tenure; I find it hard to believe!"
As he stood at the entrance, the rooster seemed to suddenly gain awareness and darted out from under his legs. Jin Weicheng felt a blur before the beauty bumped into him and followed after the rooster.
"Crazy!" He nearly got knocked out, but fortunately, the Secretary helped him steady himself. "They're all crazy!" He shot a glare at the Secretary. "What do you mean by supporting me? Am I that fragile?"
"Oh, it's all familiar faces! Come in, have a seat!" Wu Qiang's gaze landed on Jin Weicheng, and then he noticed a few people who had followed him in. He smiled warmly, greeting them enthusiastically while putting down the plate he was holding.
"…Chairman Wu…" The few people behind Jin Weicheng exchanged polite pleasantries. They were all seasoned players in the business world, adept at discussing schemes and conspiracies while maintaining a friendly demeanor.
"Retirement here is indeed a great place! With mountains behind and water in front, wild chickens and rabbits, plus beautiful companions, hahaha…"
"Where, where…"
Originally planning to visit her in-laws to see White Cat, Song Pearl received a call from Wu Qiang inviting her over for dinner. She intended to buy some vegetables and cooked food to bring along, but Wu Qiang assured her he had everything he needed; he just wanted her company.
"Isn't there still that big rooster you gave me? It’s perfect for trying something fresh tonight!" He added quickly before hanging up.
"When did I give you a rooster?" Song Pearl hung up the phone in confusion. "Did I ever give a rooster to my dad?"
"I don't know!"
"Then I'll invite Qing Wenyu to join us for dinner with Dad." She called Qing Wenyu, but he was busy tonight entertaining a mysterious big client and told her to go ahead without him.
Perfect timing!
Song Pearl extended her finger, the green object not yet transformed into a ring circling around it.
"Why aren't you coming up?" After waiting for a while without any movement from Yao, she retracted her finger and asked.
"Staying on your finger is too conspicuous. If I run into that stubborn… I’ve decided to find a safer place," Yao replied slowly, as if contemplating.
"Where are you going? Aren't you staying on this snake anymore?"
"Um."
"You are a spirit, right? You're not really a demon; you're just a spirit without a physical form?"
"I don't know what I am! I only know that I have a mission!" the spirit shouted.
"Your mission was to help me find Qing Wenyu and marry him, and that's already done!"
"But... the feelings between you two aren't right. My mission isn't complete yet."
"What feels wrong? What's not right?"
"I don't know!"
"I don't know..." Song Pearl smirked. "I've already tried; I can't control others' consciousness like before. Maybe the stubbornness is real, and those things that happened were him helping me..."
"Don't mention him... I can't stand him. It's either me or him!" the spirit angrily interrupted Song Pearl.
"Fine! I'm not going to see the cat anymore; I'm going to see my dad!" Song Pearl closed her laptop and walked out.
There was silence behind her. The spirit indeed did not follow.
Song Pearl turned back to glance at the desk, where the spirit lay like a green leaf blown down by the wind. She grabbed it in her hand and left the office.
"You wild girl!" came the muffled hum from the spirit in her palm.
When she arrived, Song Pearl did not expect that Wu Qiang would be there with so many people.
On her way there, she had seen several cars parked and didn't think much of it. Now, the Resort was in an open management state because she had been neglecting it, so it was normal for all kinds of cars to appear.
As soon as Song Pearl entered, Wu Qiang shouted, "Pearl! You're here! Just in time to arrange for these guests to have dinner!"
Song Pearl shot a glance at Wu Qiang with some complaints, not understanding what her father was up to. When she saw Jin Weicheng, she realized that it wasn't her father who invited them; they most likely came uninvited.
Just as she was pondering this, her gaze fell on the beautiful woman sitting next to Jin Weicheng. The woman was dressed in casual attire and looked somewhat disheveled, as if she had just finished a long run.
"Wang Ziyan!" Song Pearl exclaimed in surprise.
"Wang Ziyan!" Wang Ziyan noticed that Song Pearl recognized her immediately. Her face lit up with a sincere and excited smile as she stood up and ran over to her. She embraced Song Pearl and spun her around a few times.
Years after graduation, both of them had changed in some ways, but at that moment when their eyes met, they were reminded of the beautiful and naive days of their youth, even if they had occasionally been a bit self-righteous back then.
Eventually, the few people Jin Weicheng brought along, together with Wang Ziyan, were led by Wu Qiang and Song Pearl to the Resort hotel.
"Look at this place; it's so desolate!" Jin Weicheng lamented as he observed the sparse number of diners at the hotel.
Song Pearl ignored him.
Wang Ziyan, however, said in confusion, "I specifically checked before I came here. This Resort is quite nice; there are usually a steady stream of tourists. To enjoy the specialty dishes here, you need to make reservations in advance. Also, the villas are hard to book and seem quite expensive..."
"You really know quite a bit, but unfortunately," Jin Weicheng glanced sideways at Wang Ziyan. This woman looked good but had a duck-like voice; her speech was truly unpleasant. "That information is outdated... Where did you come from that your information is so off?"
Wang Ziyan's face turned red from Jin Weicheng's words. The place where she lived and worked was something people in this village looked up to; how could this arrogant man say such things?
He clearly looked like an uneducated rich second-generation.
Annoyed, she turned her head away and ignored Jin Weicheng.
"Pearl, you should arrange two tables; we aren't familiar with these people!" Wang Ziyan whispered to Song Pearl.
"Why don't we open another table?" Song Pearl said softly to her.
"Hey, hey, two beautiful ladies, what are you whispering about? This is a public place!" Jin Weicheng shouted unhappily. "I can hear you! I'm quite familiar with Song Pearl; we're like siblings!"
He looked generously at everyone at the table, displaying a smile that suggested he was both wise and virtuous.
Wang Ziyan frowned, glancing at Song Pearl and then at Jin Weicheng, finally noticing Wu Qiang sitting at the head of the table, whose expression was not very pleasant.
She vaguely sensed that the Song Pearl who mingled in the business world was different from before. She found it hard to read the people at this table and wisely chose not to say more.
However, her cheerful and humorous personality ensured that there was never a dull moment during the meal.
When it was time to leave, Jin Weicheng asked Song Pearl to sing for everyone while discussing business matters. Without a second thought, Song Pearl refused.
"Your Jin Mai's acquisition of Resort was discussed in the same county. If there's any business matter, you should negotiate with the county leaders. Whatever arrangements they make, I will execute them; we have nothing to discuss here."
"Pearl, considering you're the daughter of my aunt's husband, I'm just trying to help you!"
Jin Weicheng took a sip of water and said seriously, "You're currently lacking funds and can no longer ensure the normal operation of Resort. I've heard from your internal people that some are engaging in embezzlement, taking Wildlife from the Ecological Aquaculture Farm and selling it off... Our purpose for coming here is to assess the value of this area. As for building a luxurious Villa Area or continuing tourism development, I would like to hear your and Wu Bo's suggestions!"
