The last customer in the store sensed something was off and hurriedly said, "I'll come back next time," before leaving.
The well-mannered bespectacled Cousin rushed to Wang Xingxing's side, but Wang Xingxing didn't seem anxious at all. He put down his phone despite the unfriendly gazes from several people.
The leader, Curly Hair, said, "You've got quite the attitude, huh! Didn't you hear what we said?"
Wang Xingxing was of medium build, with dark skin and a strong physique. He stood up, crossed his arms, and looked at the group with a cocky expression. "Sponsorship? Are you guys trying to rob me? People pay protection money to ensure their business runs smoothly. What can you bunch of misfits do?"
"What can we do? We can smash!" the thugs grinned menacingly. "You can pay us a little to make friends; it's better than having your goods smashed to pieces!"
"Smash?" Wang Xingxing laughed. "If you want to smash my store, you'd better ask my boss if he agrees first."
"Your boss?" Curly Hair squinted and sized up the three people in the store again. "Who’s your boss? The Axe Gang or the Knife Society?"
"This is my boss!" Wang Xingxing pointed to Song Pearl, who was sitting nearby.
Curly Hair looked disdainfully at Song Pearl. Suddenly, a young man with long hair dyed yellow shouted from behind, "Isn't that the girl who ran away during the robbery?"
Curly Hair instinctively took a step back. It wasn't glorious to be beaten up during their first robbery and not even know who did it made it even more humiliating...
"Is she one of those two?" he asked, glancing around.
"I've run into her twice; I can't be mistaken," the Yellow-Haired Girl said as she backed away, nearly tripping over the threshold.
"Why are you retreating? Call for backup!" Curly Hair shouted over his shoulder.
"When did I become your boss?" Song Pearl stood up from her seat. If this had happened elsewhere, she would have run away long ago, but since Wang Xingxing had a shop here, there was no escaping—once a monk runs away, he can't escape the temple.
She wanted to smile and confuse these people into leaving, but after smiling all morning, her facial muscles were cramping, and seeing this scene made her a bit nervous, so she couldn't smile at all.
She didn't think that Wang Xingxing and his cousin could take on the four people who came in, especially since they were armed. If they angered them, the store's merchandise would definitely be damaged.
However, Wang Xingxing pushing her out was really unfair!
"Boss? Is this bean sprout really the boss?" The leader, Curly Hair, sneered and pulled out a stick from his waist, ready to smash the display model on the counter. Wang Xingxing suddenly grabbed a beer bottle from somewhere and rushed over to smash it down on the opponent's head. Curly Hair dodged to the side, swinging his stick at Wang Xingxing. The beer bottle shattered upon impact with the stick, and Wang Xingxing bent down to jab his opponent in the stomach.
One of the three behind Curly Hair went out to make a phone call, while the other two pulled out sticks and were about to strike when they were pushed back to the door by Wang Xingxing's strength.
Wang Xingxing's cousin ran to the front of the counter to protect the valuable merchandise. These people probably wouldn't really smash things, but robbery was a possibility, so he chose to shield it with his body.
After all, one person couldn't take on three. Wang Xingxing took a punch to the face, causing his cheek to swell up and blood to trickle from the corner of his mouth.
"Zhenzhu, hurry up and beat them! If you don't help soon, I'm going to get smashed!" Wang Xingxing shouted back.
Song Pearl saw the blood at the corner of Wang Xingxing's mouth and felt dizzy as images flashed through her mind; she quickly shook her head.
Curly Hair scoffed; this relationship was confusing! Just a moment ago he was calling him boss, and now he's calling him brother. This guy must be crazy!
"This Big Guy is actually asking a girl for help; how shameless!"
Curly Hair spat and grabbed Wang Xingxing by the neck. The one who had gone out to make a call rushed in and grabbed Cousin by his collar while the other two raised their sticks to strike, completely ignoring Song Pearl, who stood there trembling.
Just as one thug was about to bring down his club on Wang Xingxing, a gust of wind suddenly swept in, followed by several loud thuds as four people fell one after another. Three of them fell without resistance, their heads hitting the floor with a loud bang.
Curly Hair, who had been choking Wang Xingxing, hit his head on the marble counter before being pushed by Wang Xingxing's cousin and crashing onto the floor.
Having escaped from danger, Wang Xingxing clapped his hands and awkwardly sat down on a nearby stool. He pointed at the people lying on the ground and said arrogantly, "You're lucky! This floor is covered with linoleum; falling doesn't hurt. If it were marble tiles, you guys would be dead!"
"Cousin, they seem to have fainted!"
Wang Xingxing's cousin squatted on the ground and looked at a few people.
"It's fine, they'll get up in a bit. If we don't teach them a lesson, they won't leave us alone next time!"
Wang Xingxing, still feeling uncomfortable from having his throat grabbed earlier, took a breath and wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth before looking at Song Pearl. He saw that she was still sitting in her original position, looking scared and confused.
"Pearl, are you okay? Thank goodness you were here today!"
"Did I actually fight?" Song Pearl's body trembled slightly, her mind blank. She raised her eyes to look at Wang Xingxing and after a while asked, "How could this happen, Wang Xingxing? How did you know I could take them on?"
"We grew up together and went to school together; this isn't the first time we've fought. Of course I know," Wang Xingxing replied with an easy smile.
"This isn't the first fight? Have we ever fought someone together?"
"It's not that we fought someone together; it's that others bullied us, and you fought back..." Wang Xingxing said.
"How come I don't remember? Maybe it was just a coincidence?" Song Pearl looked at her own hands.
"No," Wang Xingxing shook his head. "We fought a total of three times during school. When you were studying in the Provincial Capital, I even asked you to help me fight once. You never missed!"
"How is that possible?" Song Pearl's face turned pale. "I would trip while running and don't have much strength; how could I defeat them?"
"I don't know," Wang Xingxing continued to shake his head with a smile. "Why think so much about it? As long as we're not bullied, that's good enough, heh heh!"
"But why can't I remember these things?" Song Pearl tried hard to recall her past, speculating that perhaps those things Wang Xingxing mentioned were done by the original Song Pearl, that demon.
"I'm sorry, Pearl," Wang Xingxing said awkwardly. "I've been through this with you, but you don't believe me; you have amnesia."
"I'm impossible?" Song Pearl said somewhat flustered. "I don't have amnesia. Although my memory isn't great and I often mistake people, I don't have amnesia. I remember the people I know and the things that happened in the past..."
"I didn't think so either at first, but later when I was working in the Provincial Capital, I realized that you might have intermittent amnesia, or maybe selective amnesia, or some other type of amnesia. In any case, your memory isn't the same as that of normal people..."
Wang Xingxing looked at the four people lying on the ground as if chatting with them. "The reason you always struggled in school wasn't because you were stupid, but because you forgot things too quickly. You couldn't even answer questions that the teacher had just asked."
"Not being able to remember is because I'm not smart," Song Pearl retorted. "It doesn't mean I have amnesia."
"Then think about a major event that happened at school when we just started seventh grade. If you can remember it, then it means you don't have amnesia." Wang Xingxing looked into Song Pearl's eyes, which were filled with panic like black pearls.
"Seventh grade?" Song Pearl avoided Wang Xingxing's gaze and tried hard to recall. "What happened in seventh grade?"
She thought for a while, but aside from some knowledge from textbooks, she couldn't remember anything.
"Don't think about it; you won't be able to remember," Wang Xingxing interrupted her thoughts. "You don't need to worry; no one else knows you have amnesia except me."
