Jiang Han sat in the carriage, surrounded by a large group of disciples from Manichaeism, all returning to Bright Summit. Each person wore a relaxed expression.
"Congratulations to the host for completing a special sign-in. You have earned a random lottery draw."
Jiang Han's eyebrows twitched as he exited his meditative state, opened his eyes, and murmured to himself, "This time I really hit the jackpot."
He said this because he had previously obtained the Dao Sword from Azure Peak and received a reward, acquiring the Dragon Elephant Prajna Paramita. He never expected to accidentally complete another special sign-in.
Although it wasn't the fusion opportunity for the Cultivation Method he had hoped for, he was still very pleased. After all, it was free; one couldn't ask for too much.
Before he could think further, a Light Screen appeared in his mind. The pointer on the Light Screen's wheel passed over countless phantoms before finally stopping on something strange at his command of 'stop.'
It appeared to be an irregularly shaped stone, about the size of a baby's fist, surrounded by a halo of Buddhist light, exuding an incredibly sacred aura. Just one glance gave a sense of tranquility and peace.
Before the system provided a specific explanation, Jiang Han had already guessed what it was.
"Congratulations to the host for drawing the Sarira of the eminent monk Shen Xiu from Buddhism."
A hint of surprise flashed in Jiang Han's eyes; he hadn't expected to receive this relic from such a significant figure in Buddhism.
Many might not know Shen Xiu by name, but most have likely heard of Sixth Patriarch Huineng. As a disciple of the former Five Patriarchs' Hong Ren, Shen Xiu was originally poised to inherit Buddhism's legacy. However, he was overshadowed by Huineng's extraordinary talent and ultimately lost out, living his life in Huineng's shadow.
In the past, the Five Patriarchs, particularly Hong Ren, had his disciples compose verses. Hong Ren wrote: "The body is the Bodhi tree, the heart is like a bright mirror stand; diligently wipe it at all times, lest dust should cling to it." However, the Sixth Patriarch Huineng stepped forward and composed his own verse: "Bodhi is not a tree, the bright mirror is not a stand; originally there is not a single thing, where could dust cling?"
According to various unofficial historical accounts circulating in the Zongwu World, it was based on these two verses that Hong Ren chose Huineng from six groups as the successor of Buddhism, abandoning his previous preference for Shen Xiu. Holding Shen Xiu's Sarira, Jiang Han could clearly feel the immense Buddhist power contained within it. This was certainly not a relic that could be produced by a monk from the Fusion Realm.
In other words, during his lifetime, Shen Xiu was at least a Martial Arts Deity of the Yang God realm, or even transcended that level, reaching a realm beyond ordinary imagination. Jiang Han had only recently broken through to the Fusion Realm; although he was progressing rapidly and his combat power was astonishing, he was truly at a loss when it came to understanding the Youngshen Realm and planning his future path. He didn't even know what the Youngshen Realm was, let alone how to cultivate to reach it.
At present, possessing such a Sarira of a High Monk in Buddhism allowed him to constantly feel the power of the Youngshen Realm and helped him avoid many detours. Furthermore, Sariras have always been cherished by martial artists practicing Buddhist Sect Cultivation Methods for their various miraculous uses. If he could slowly release the energy stored within the Sarira, recreating a Youngshen Realm would be somewhat challenging; however, recreating someone at the Fusion Realm would be quite easy.
Jiang Han contemplated that once he found his path in martial arts and if Baghdad Zen Master made significant contributions to Manichaeism, he would not hesitate to guide some of the energy from the Sarira for his use to assist him in breaking through to the Fusion Realm. For now, it was naturally impossible to reveal such a precious treasure to anyone.
Returning to the topic, according to Jiang Han, the Shaolin Temple has a dedicated Pagoda that enshrines the Sarira of high monks from various generations. These Sarira are not merely objects of worship; their powerful energy serves as the core of the protective formation surrounding the Shaolin Temple, safeguarding it from harm. Additionally, some martial artists from the Shaolin Temple can enhance their understanding of Buddhist teachings by contemplating these Sarira.
However, this is just a superficial understanding known to outsiders. Some individuals in the martial world speculate that certain secret and profound cultivation methods passed down within the Shaolin Temple may even require the use of Sarira for practice. Therefore, when the high monks of the Shaolin Temple realize their lifespan is nearing its end, they typically refrain from venturing out unless absolutely necessary. Instead, they choose to meditate within the temple, leaving behind their Sarira as a final contribution to the temple.
The Sarira that Jiang Han obtained from the system contains an astonishingly powerful Buddhist energy. He does not know what level of Sarira it corresponds to within the Shaolin Temple, as that is a closely guarded secret. As for whether there are any Buddhist sect cultivation methods hidden within the Divine Show Relic, it is likely due to the vast difference in realms between him and others that he currently cannot access that information. However, he is not at all frustrated by this.
Having the opportunity to experience power at the Youngshen Realm level, or even above in the Yangshen realm, brings him great joy. As for pursuing Buddhist teachings? Although he is somewhat envious, he does not overly chase after them. After all, as his cultivation grows stronger, he has subtly begun to find his own unique path in martial arts—one that encompasses all things in harmony and draws wisdom from various schools of thought!
