Wang Yi let out a sound of surprise and turned around, only to see a man standing before him, who was less than six feet tall, dressed in coarse clothing, with a gaunt face. He appeared to be in his thirties, and his two yellowish mouse-like whiskers gave him a lewd look when he smiled, making people want to avoid him.
Wang Yi was certain that this person was undoubtedly a local bully in Deer City. Since he had just arrived, it would be unwise to offend him. Moreover, given this man's appearance and his boldness in approaching Wang Yi in public, it was likely that he had some skills. Thus, Wang Yi smiled slightly and said, "I do not know you or your friends. May I ask what you want from me?"
"It seems my guess was correct; this is your first time in Deer City," the man with mouse-like whiskers said with a lewd smile. "My name is Liu Sandao. I grew up in Deer City and know everything about it. If you have any questions, feel free to ask; I guarantee I will satisfy you." As he spoke, the middle-aged man who called himself Liu Sandao rubbed his dry, twig-like hands together and added apologetically, "If you are generous, perhaps you could spare a little silver."
Wang Yi nodded and said, "I do indeed need something from you."
Liu Sandao was overjoyed at these words and eagerly asked, "What do you need, sir?"
"Do you know where the best weapon shop is around here?" Wang Yi asked.
"I do! Please follow me," Liu Sandao immediately replied, bowing and scraping as he led the way.
However, Wang Yi's expression soon darkened because Liu Sandao led him left and right until they arrived at a narrow alleyway. There was no one around; the cool wind blew through, raising dust and creating a desolate atmosphere with no sign of life.
"Is this your weapon shop?" Wang Yi sneered.
Hearing Wang Yi's cold voice made Liu Sandao shiver involuntarily. He retreated more than ten steps before stopping, opening his mouth and summoning his courage to say, "Hand over your silver immediately! Otherwise, you'll regret it." He even remembered to snort coldly.
However, Liu Sandao was disappointed to find no trace of panic on Wang Yi's face; instead, he seemed somewhat interested as he looked him up and down. Liu Sandao's heart tightened involuntarily as he was about to speak when he suddenly heard the young man say softly, "Is it just you?"
"Of course not," Liu Sandao felt a chill run down his spine. He was no fool in Deer City; he had keen insight and immediately guessed that the young man standing before him was not an ordinary person.
Wang Yi's calm demeanor caused Liu Sandao to become anxious. Cold sweat began to bead on his yellowish forehead when suddenly a loud shout came from around the corner of the alley.
"Brothers! Block this off! Don't let this big fish slip away!"
Before the voice faded, a group of people emerged from the corner of the alley. The leader was strong and burly, carrying a Cutter on his shoulder with an imposing presence. This man was clearly the head of the group following him were three Short-Sleeved Men, each wielding broad knives with cold expressions.
Wang Yi squinted his eyes and looked back. Four men holding broad knives blocked his way, grinning menacingly as they approached him.
"Boss," Liu Sandao immediately ran over to the Cutter man with a flattering expression, standing respectfully behind him.
The Cutter man spat on the ground, glanced at Wang Yi with a hint of anger, and said, "Liu Sandao, why is it just you this time?"
Liu Sandao's expression turned tense, and he said nervously, "Li the Boss, forgive me. There have been very few strangers coming to Deer City lately, so business has been poor. I hope you won't be angry."
"Hmph, that doesn't matter to me. You should go talk to my big brother!" Li the Boss sniffed and looked at Wang Yi with impatience. "Hand over your money and then get lost!"
"Don't worry, we only do robbery for money; we won't take your life," Li the Boss feigned kindness.
One of the Short-Sleeved Men saw Wang Yi smiling without a trace of fear and immediately threatened, "Kid, my boss is talking to you. Did you hear that? Hand over your money and you can leave; otherwise, next year on this day will be your memorial day." He licked his cracked lips and grinned menacingly.
"I think this kid is scared of us."
"Shut up! Don't scare our guest. Kid, I advise you to be honest; otherwise, you'll be the one suffering," Li the Boss said fairly.
Wang Yi smiled calmly and said, "What if I don't?"
"Kid, I see you're like a tiger not showing its power; you don't know how many eyes Horse King has. If you know what's good for you, hand over your money; otherwise, don't think you'll leave here today," Li the Boss said angrily. His two older brothers were from Tiger Gang; in Deer City, who wouldn't give them some face? Seeing Wang Yi dare to speak to him like that made Li the Boss feel murderous.
"Third Boss, stop wasting time with this kid; let's make a move," one of the Short-Sleeved Men pointed his broad knife at Wang Yi coldly.
"If you want silver, come take it yourself," Wang Yi said with a smile.
"Get him!" Li the Boss shouted angrily, and the Short-Sleeved Men immediately surged toward Wang Yi.
Almost simultaneously, four men behind Wang Yi also rushed in, surrounding him completely with no way out. It was indeed a dead end with no escape.
"Up."
Before the words fell, four broad swords came slicing towards Wang Yi, sharp and gleaming, indicating that Wang Yi had no chance of survival.
Suddenly, a loud laugh rang out. Wang Yi crouched down, sweeping his right leg outwards. With two loud thuds, he knocked two of the Short-Sleeved Men to the ground, their cries piercing and chilling, clearly indicating that their leg bones had been broken.
"Ah! My foot."
"My foot."
The remaining five Short-Sleeved Men were momentarily stunned; no one expected this seemingly frail youth to possess such martial prowess!
"Kill him."
A slightly taller man among the Short-Sleeved Men charged forward, swinging his sword towards Wang Yi's face.
Wang Yi felt a cold wind rush at him. He tilted his head, and the sharp sword grazed past him. Then, with a gentle hook of his right foot towards the man's lower body, the man stumbled as if he had tripped over a tether, falling to the ground and bleeding from his nose. Just as he tried to get up, he was trampled by four rushing Short-Sleeved Men, who screamed in agony. The scene was chaotic; seeing their comrade on the ground caused them to lose their balance.
Wang Yi chuckled lightly. With a push of his left foot, he leaped into the air and swept his right leg out. There were several loud thuds as all four men were kicked down, some clutching their arms, others their shoulders or legs in pain. Looking at the astonished Li the Boss, he smiled and asked, "Do you still want silver now?"
"Die!" Li the Boss felt his long-standing dignity challenged once more and furiously swung his broad sword towards Wang Yi.
In the corner, Liu Sandao was already too frightened to speak, frozen in place.
"Get down!" Wang Yi darted forward and swiftly extended his right hand.
In the next moment, Li the Boss's sword halted mid-air as if magnetized, beads of sweat forming on his forehead while his face turned crimson.
"You..." Li the Boss felt a chill run down his spine as he saw Wang Yi gently pinching the broad knife, staring into the cold eyes of the young man before him. He was so frightened that he fell silent, feeling a cold sweat break out on his back.
Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through his abdomen, causing his large hand that held the knife to loosen involuntarily. His body hunched over as he clutched his stomach and let out a miserable scream, his face turning a shade of liver color.
"Clap, clap."
Wang Yi clapped his hands and said, "Hand over the silver on you!" He then looked at the man lying on the ground and added, "And you too."
Li the Boss, lying on the cold ground, was stunned upon hearing this. After a lifetime of hunting birds, he had finally been pecked by one!
"Crack."
The sound of bones breaking echoed, followed by a piercing scream from the ground. Li the Boss desperately clutched his wrist that Wang Yi was stepping on, his face turning pale as he spoke in a muffled voice, "I... I'll hand it over immediately."
Wang Yi loosened his foot, and Li the Boss shakily stood up, shouting at the man lying on the ground, "Hurry up and take it out!"
"Give it, give it, give it."
Soon enough, Li the Boss and his eight subordinates pulled out all their silver and handed it over to Wang Yi.
"Is that everything?" Wang Yi asked with a smile.
"N-no more! Please spare us!" Li the Boss was terrified by Wang Yi's smiling face, feeling as if he were staring at a harmless lamb when in fact he was facing a big bad wolf—truly a devil.
"Great sir," Li the Boss trembled as he stood before Wang Yi with his subordinates.
"Alright, you can go now," Wang Yi waved his hand.
Li the Boss and the others were overjoyed and immediately ran out of the alley with all their might, disappearing in an instant.
"Hmph, did I tell you to leave?" Wang Yi said coldly, looking at Liu Sandao, who was running halfway.
With a thud, Liu Sandao turned around and knelt in front of Wang Yi, wailing, "My lord, please spare me. I had no choice!"
"No choice? Is this how you act when you have no choice? Hmph, if it were someone else, what would you do?" Wang Yi had never had a good impression of such people; his icy voice seemed to come from the depths of an abyss.
"My lord, we are just doing some business; we have never killed anyone. Besides, I was forced into this!" Liu Sandao lamented, as if he were the real victim.
"Hmph, still dare to argue." Wang Yi struck down with his palm, leaving Liu Sandao dizzy and disoriented.
"Woo." Liu Sandao sobbed, tears streaming down his face as he pleaded, "They forced me into this. If I don't do it, they won't treat my sister. My sister is only sixteen and suffers from a strange illness. If I don't do this, how can I save her? You have grown up in a wealthy family, living in luxury; how could you understand the suffering of common people like us? I hope my lord can spare me; I promise I will never deceive anyone again."
"Is what you say true?" Wang Yi frowned, recalling that in his past life he had also worked tirelessly from nine to five just to make a living. From Liu Sandao's expression, it seemed he was not lying, which stirred a sense of compassion within him.
"Every word is true; I wouldn't dare to lie. If my lord doesn't believe me, I am willing to take you there," Liu Sandao said quickly as he noticed Wang Yi's cold demeanor softening.
"Lead the way!" Wang Yi said after a moment of contemplation. "If you dare to offend again, I'll make sure your body and head are separated."
