"Yeah..." Then Lan Baobao didn't know what else she could say.
Before Lan Baobao could finish, Gu Feng asked, "What exactly happened between you and Ye Zixun? You don't have to hide it from me; you know that." Gu Feng still wanted to understand clearly.
Lan Baobao had no words and didn't know where to start.
"I'm just a bit sad. You'd rather get drunk than call me. I could have been there for you," Gu Feng said, his eyes flashing with a hint of darkness and disappointment, making Lan Baobao feel quite guilty. Gu Feng had always been like this, standing in a place where Lan Baobao could see him whenever she turned around.
"Gu Feng, I thought this was something no one could solve. It's just my fault for having such a good tolerance for alcohol that I can't even forget when I'm drunk," Lan Baobao lowered her head and started fiddling with her fingers. Then, unintentionally, she remembered the child in her womb.
"Lan Baobao, whether it can be solved or not, you shouldn't hide it from me. No matter what, I don't want you to bear this alone," Gu Feng looked at Lan Baobao with eyes full of affection. Perhaps in this lifetime, Gu Feng's love for Lan Baobao would never diminish. Even if he couldn't have her, his love would always remain.
"All the love over these years has probably been consumed by you, Lan Baobao. I probably won't feel this way about another girl; you are my greatest calamity in this life." When Gu Feng said this, his voice even carried a hint of tears, but he couldn't say, "Lan Baobao, please love me."
"Do you remember what I told you about my marriage with Ye Zixun?" In the end, Lan Baobao decided to tell Gu Feng, just as he had hoped; perhaps having one more person to share the burden would lessen the pain. Moreover, the things she had discovered recently were making her feel increasingly unfamiliar.
Gu Feng listened quietly. "So?" He couldn't tolerate how Ye Zixun treated Lan Baobao.
"A contractual marriage," Lan Baobao said slowly and clearly.
Then Lan Baobao recounted everything that had happened.
Gu Feng couldn't even believe Lan Baobao's words; the mother of his best friend's two children was actually in a contractual marriage with Ye Zixun. Had they been acting all these years?
"So, you still want me to take you back to Ye Zixun?" It was as if Lan Baobao had handed over the decision of her life to Gu Feng. She didn't want to go back, especially after experiencing such things; she wanted to stay with Gu Feng even more. Reflecting on all these years, she wondered if she had been living in her own fantasy all along—perhaps she and Ye Zixun had merely been playing the roles of executors of a contractual marriage.
Gu Feng remained silent for a long time; this truly was something that wasn't within their ability to resolve.
"Gu Feng, what should I do? I've already lost..." Had she lost her love? Lan Baobao felt stuck. Regarding Ye Zixun, she no longer felt any romantic feelings.
“Lan Baobao, everything will be fine.” Gu Feng didn’t know much else, but in this matter, Gu Feng couldn’t offer Lan Baobao any advice or comfort. This was something that couldn’t be resolved on her own; perhaps it could be resolved, and Gu Feng thought of another way.
“Gu Feng, you once told me that everything would be fine, but it hasn’t been good, you know? Instead, everything has gotten worse. I don’t know how to solve this.” Lan Baobao lowered her head, her expression filled with sadness.
“Don’t be discouraged, Lan Baobao. Since God brought you to meet this person and blessed your marriage, you are destined to be together.” Gu Feng couldn’t believe she was defending Ye Zixun.
“So, I can’t escape this?” Lan Baobao asked sadly. This was a calamity from which there was no escape.
“No, you will definitely be happy. Don’t always focus on the pessimistic side of this situation.” Gu Feng even doubted whether this statement had any persuasive power. But what else could possibly be convincing at this moment?
“Pessimistic side? Gu Feng, do you really think there’s a positive side to this?” Lan Baobao replied sarcastically. She looked at her belly; there was still a child inside.
“You just haven’t seen how worried Ye Zixun is about you.” Gu Feng truly felt Ye Zixun’s love for Lan Baobao. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be so anxious. “You know, he has been looking for you.” But that didn’t mean that Ye Zixun’s love for Lan Baobao didn’t have some contractual elements involved.
“So what? Gu Feng, you’ve also looked for me. He is my husband, and you are my friend. He doesn’t understand me like you do. I really regret making that decision back then.” Lan Baobao shook her head. Years ago, if she hadn’t met Ye Zixun, would everything be different now?
That night, Lan Baobao slept somewhat peacefully. However, her dreams were filled with scenes of Gu Feng and Ye Zixun. If this continued, it was likely that Lan Baobao herself wouldn’t even know who her heart truly belonged to.
“Lan Baobao, are you awake?” Gu Feng had actually gotten up quite early. In fact, Gu Feng always had a habit of waking up early.
“Your shoulder…” Lan Baobao looked at the breakfast prepared on the table and was somewhat surprised. Gu Feng was indeed a good homemaker.
“It’s nothing; I just used my right hand out of habit.” Gu Feng, being left-handed, said, “Come wash up and eat.” Gu Feng looked genuinely gentle.
Milk, cookies, sliced fruit… simple yet nutritious, filled with Gu Feng’s love. Suddenly, Lan Baobao felt very happy.
This reminded her that actually, Ye Zixun would also make breakfast for her. Despite all the arguments they had, why did her heart still linger on this man? Lan Baobao couldn’t figure it out. Why could Ye Zixun treat her so well yet also be so cold-blooded? She really wanted to know if these were two sides of the same person…
"Why are you sitting here in a daze?" Gu Feng was indeed slower at grooming himself with one hand, but he still looked neat. He had always been like this; Gu Feng was no longer the delinquent from years ago. Now, he was mature and polite, someone all the girls would like.
"Oh, it's nothing..." Lan Baobao said as she picked up a cookie and brought it to her mouth. She had no idea how to tell Gu Feng about what she had just been thinking.
"Look at you, lost in thought. You can't even focus on breakfast?" Gu Feng smiled at Lan Baobao, knowing she was preoccupied with something. The person who understood her best was none other than Gu Feng.
"By the way, we still have to go to the Ye Family today," Lan Baobao intentionally changed the subject. In truth, she really didn't want to go back.
"I know. Lan Baobao, hurry up and eat. I still like seeing you smile," Gu Feng replied, smiling back at her, looking truly handsome.
"How about we go out for a stroll later and return home a bit later? I really haven't gone out in a long time," Lan Baobao genuinely wanted to escape from all the trivial matters.
"Sure, as long as you're willing, anything is fine. It's just that I..." Before Gu Feng could finish, Lan Baobao already knew what he was going to say. It must be about Ye Zixun; after all, Gu Feng had promised Ye Zixun that he would take her home yesterday.
Feelings are ultimately not something that can be forced. Those who truly love each other often end up hiding away.
"I'll clean up." Seeing Gu Feng about to tidy the table, Lan Baobao quickly took the cup from his hand.
"You can? Look at your life in the Ye Family," Gu Feng looked at Lan Baobao with some skepticism.
"Hey, you think too highly of me! If I couldn't even do this, what else could I do? Besides, I'm still questioning whether you can do it," Lan Baobao retorted. Even though she had been pampered in the Ye Family and hadn't lifted a finger, she had seen enough to know how things worked. After all, she wasn't some delicate princess before this.
Gu Feng couldn't argue with Lan Baobao and had no choice but to sit aside, watching her with some concern. After all, Lan Baobao was pregnant now, and he didn't want her to overexert herself.
"Ah..." Just as Gu Feng sat down, he saw the cup he had just drunk milk from shatter into pieces. Lan Baobao stood there in shock, staring at the cup that had slipped from her hand as if sensing something ominous. It was indeed an ominous feeling; she clearly felt very uneasy.
"Are you okay?" Gu Feng laughed as he stood up to help clean up. "Hey, don't move!" He became anxious when he saw Lan Baobao crouching down to pick up the shards of glass, fearing she might cut herself. To Gu Feng, this was nothing serious at all.
"Gu Feng, isn't this ominous?" Lan Baobao stopped speaking and then looked up at Gu Feng. Lan Baobao suddenly felt flustered.
"It's fine, it's nothing." Gu Feng noticed the unease in Lan Baobao's eyes, "Come on, let it be, let's go out." Gu Feng slowly helped Lan Baobao up with one hand. "May you have peace and prosperity." For some reason, this phrase sounded surprisingly funny coming from Gu Feng. There was still some unease in Lan Baobao's eyes, but it wasn't overwhelming.
"I haven't been here in a long time. Luckily, your home is located in the city center, which is very convenient." The entire luxury shopping street had completely dispelled Lan Baobao's earlier anxiety.
Seeing that Lan Baobao seemed to relax a bit, Gu Feng also breathed a sigh of relief. "Yeah, I specifically waited for you to come shopping." Gu Feng joked. He knew that Lan Baobao didn't often come to places like this.
"You know, research shows that women's moods improve when they spend money." Gu Feng smiled at Lan Baobao.
"What kind of reasoning is that? But it's true that I haven't shopped in a long time; I've been so busy lately." Lan Baobao recalled those matters.
"Right? You probably don't even know what the trending new products are this season anymore. I know you've been busy." Gu Feng was certainly aware of the trends, especially since he was such a laid-back person.
It's strange; whenever she was with Gu Feng, Lan Baobao always felt at ease.
"Let's go check that out!" In the huge mall, Gu Feng pulled Lan Baobao towards the Fan Sizhe perfume counter.
"You know I don't really like using perfume." Lan Baobao frowned. Even though she had used True Me Perfume yesterday, her mood today was completely different.
Gu Feng smiled slightly, "Many times, you don't realize that what you think you don't like might actually suit you perfectly." She couldn't tell if Gu Feng was referring to the perfume or to herself. It was just like love.
