The tragic state of Li Muqing shocked everyone. The Competition Arena was enveloped in a deathly silence, broken only by his anguished cries echoing in the air. Meng Hao stood with the Heavenly Axe in hand, exuding an oppressive aura that made it hard to breathe. He knew that this single strike had thoroughly intimidated those so-called "genius disciples" who prided themselves on their superiority.
“Meng Hao!” Bai Yunzi's voice, filled with undeniable authority, shattered the silence. “Follow me to the Council Hall.”
Meng Hao sheathed his axe and took a deep breath to calm his racing heart. He understood that the real test was just beginning. He could feel countless gazes—some filled with awe, others with jealousy, and many with curiosity—focused on him, especially the bright eyes of Sun Ruoshui, which sparkled with unmistakable admiration and intrigue.
He followed Bai Yunzi through a long corridor, where the surrounding disciples parted to make way, their expressions complex as they watched him pass. Inside the Council Hall, the atmosphere was solemn and grave; several elders of the Kongtong Sect sat upright, each wearing different expressions.
“Meng Hao, do you know your crime?” an elderly elder with white hair spoke first, his voice booming with an intimidating presence.
Meng Hao showed no signs of fear; he straightened his back and met the elder's gaze directly. “What crime have I committed? It was a sparring match; blades are blind. Li Muqing struck first with treachery, and I merely defended myself.”
“Impudent!” another elder slammed his hand on the table and shouted angrily. “Li Muqing is one of our most favored disciples; how can you lightly brush aside such a serious injury?”
“Favored disciple?” Meng Hao scoffed, his tone laced with disdain. “Attacking from the shadows and ambushing from behind—this is what Kongtong Sect calls a ‘favored disciple’? If so, then your sect’s rules are nothing but empty words.”
His words struck hard, leaving the two elders momentarily speechless. Bai Yunzi stroked his beard, a glimmer of approval flashing in his eyes.
“Meng Hao, your strength is indeed impressive,” Bai Yunzi spoke slowly, his voice tinged with weariness. “But Li Muqing is still an inner disciple of Kongtong Sect; this matter… cannot be overlooked without giving an explanation to the other sects.”
Meng Hao felt a flicker of understanding; Bai Yunzi was offering him a way out. He clasped his hands together and said, “I am willing to accept whatever punishment the Sect Leader deems appropriate.”
At that moment, a commotion erupted outside the hall. Li Muqing was carried in; his face was pale and his chest sunken, clearly gravely injured. Upon seeing Meng Hao, a tide of hatred surged in his eyes as he struggled to rise but coughed up blood violently.
“Meng Hao! You have ruined my martial arts! I will not rest until I avenge this!” Li Muqing shouted hoarsely, his voice like that of a wounded beast.
Meng Hao frowned slightly; he knew that while Li Muqing’s injuries were severe, they were not beyond remedy. Clearly, this display was meant to garner sympathy and place him at a disadvantage.
“Enough!” Bai Yunzi barked sharply, cutting off Li Muqing’s cries. “Li Muqing, you have plotted against your fellow disciple and must be punished!”
His gaze swept over the elders present as he solemnly declared, “After deliberation among the elders, it has been decided that Li Muqing will be confined for one year and shall not step outside Kongtong Sect during this time!”
This punishment was evidently lenient given Li Muqing's severe injuries. Meng Hao understood this well but chose not to comment. He knew that arguing with these stubborn old men would only backfire.
“As for Meng Hao…” Bai Yunzi turned his gaze toward Meng Hao, a hint of depth in his eyes. “Your strength has been recognized by the sect. From today onward, you shall be an inner disciple of Kongtong Sect and will receive special training from now on.”
As soon as these words were spoken, a low murmur spread throughout the great hall. For a mere woodcutter who had just entered the sect, being recognized as an inner disciple was akin to soaring to great heights!
"Thank you, Sect Leader!" Meng Hao cupped his hands in gratitude, but he felt no joy in his heart. He understood that this was not only an attempt by the sect to draw him in but also a form of subtle restraint.
"Meng Hao, I have a question for you." An elder suddenly spoke, his sharp gaze fixed on him. "What is the origin of the axe you wield? How can it unleash such astonishing power?"
Meng Hao's heart tightened; he knew the main event had arrived. After a moment of contemplation, he replied calmly, "This axe was obtained by the disciple during a chance encounter in the mountains. As for its origins... I know very little."
"Know very little?" The elder snorted coldly, clearly unconvinced. "It seems to me you are hiding something! Such a Divine Weapon cannot be an ordinary item!"
Meng Hao sneered inwardly, aware that these individuals coveted the power of the Heavenly Axe. He feigned hesitation and said softly, "When I use this axe, I sometimes feel a strange force, as if... it can reverse time."
The moment those words left his mouth, the entire assembly hall erupted into chaos!
"What? Reverse time?!"
"How is that possible? The laws of time are realms only accessible to those in the Celestial Realm!"
Several elders stood up, their eyes filled with shock and greed. The ability to reverse time was something they could only dream of! If they could master such power, wouldn’t they be able to control life and death, even alter the past?
Bai Yunzi's expression also changed; he stared intently at Meng Hao, disbelief written all over his face.
"Meng Hao, are you sure you are not lying?" Bai Yunzi's voice trembled slightly; clearly, this news had a tremendous impact on him.
Meng Hao lowered his head and said, "The disciple would not dare to speak recklessly. It is merely an occasional sensation; how to utilize it requires further exploration."
By introducing the concept of "time reversal," he had cast a massive stone into the calm lake of their discussions, instantly stirring up waves upon waves. He knew that while this would attract more covetous eyes, it would also buy him more time and attention.
As chaos reigned in the hall, outside on a stretcher lay Li Muqing, his eyes glinting with malice. Beside him, several young disciples dressed in various sect uniforms whispered among themselves.
"Brother Li, this Meng Hao... is simply a prodigy! That axe actually has the ability to reverse time!" one disciple from the Xuan Heng Sect said quietly, greed evident in his eyes.
Li Muqing's lips curled into a cold smile. "Prodigy? He’s just lucky. That axe... will eventually be mine!"
He struggled to sit up, a hint of madness flashing in his eyes. "Brothers, I have a plan..."
A few disciples gathered around, and Li Muqing whispered a few words in their ears, causing shock to spread across their faces.
"This... this is too risky, isn't it?" one disciple hesitated.
"Fortune favors the bold!" Li Muqing replied coldly. "As long as we succeed, the Heavenly Axe and the future of the Kongtong Sect will be in our hands!"
His gaze pierced through the doors of the assembly hall, as if he could see Meng Hao's confident face, filled with resentment.
Inside the assembly hall, Meng Hao was negotiating with several elders, trying to obscure the ability to reverse time to avoid causing greater trouble. Just then, Bai Yunzi's expression suddenly changed.
"Not good!" Bai Yunzi exclaimed as he stood up abruptly, his eyes filled with shock and anger as he looked outside the hall. "Someone has infiltrated the forbidden area!"
"The forbidden area?!" Meng Hao's heart sank. He knew that the Kongtong Sect's forbidden area housed the Divine Weapons and important texts from generations past, heavily guarded.
"Master!" a disciple stumbled in, pale-faced and terrified. "The forbidden area... it's been breached! The intruders... they're heading straight for the Treasure Pavilion!"
Bai Yunzi dashed out, followed closely by several elders. Meng Hao felt a sense of foreboding; he knew this was no coincidence—it had to be Li Muqing's scheme!
Just as he was about to move, he sensed a gust of wind behind him. He turned sharply to see two masked figures in black, wielding poisoned daggers, viciously lunging at his vital points!
"How dare you!" Meng Hao roared, and in an instant, the Heavenly Axe appeared in his hand, its brilliance dazzling!
