In the center of the underground tomb, there was an altar upon which lay an ancient, weathered suit of armor. The armor was covered in rust and dark red residue, seemingly remnants of blood. Surrounding the altar, within a twenty-meter radius, various weapons were thrust into the ground—Knight's Swords, heavy iron axes, long spears, and great blades—though most of these weapons had decayed over time.
Dawson stood solemnly before the altar, kneeling to bow his head before rising to look back at Qin Xiaoya and Jiang Chen. Noticing their calm demeanor, Dawson couldn't help but say, "Miss Qin, aren't you curious why there are so many tombs here? And why these broken weapons are worthy of being near the resting place of the Undead Knight?"
"Not at all," Qin Xiaoya replied with a faint smile. "These tombs must belong to the subordinates of this Undead Knight."
"You are mistaken. The owners of these tombs are all those who died at the hands of the Undead Knight. Their souls cannot find peace and are enslaved by him for generations. These broken weapons were what they used in life. You should now understand how terrifying the Undead Knight truly is," Dawson said with a sinister grin.
"The Undead Knight certainly has a peculiar hobby—killing so many people and then burying them around his own tomb," Qin Xiaoya remarked, finding it amusing rather than frightening.
"You truly do not know the gravity of your situation. Soon enough, there will be a place for you here as well. To be buried alongside the Undead Knight is an honor," Dawson said ominously, feeling frustrated that he could do nothing against Qin Xiaoya. In such a grim environment, she remained unfazed and even cheerful; her mental fortitude was astonishing.
Qin Xiaoya smiled but ignored him, lightly leaping onto the altar.
"Get down! The altar of the Undead Knight is not something you can trample on!" Dawson shouted anxiously. The Undead Knight rested just beneath this altar; offerings were only placed there by members of the Kaimanwei Family during sacrifices. The altar served as the Undead Knight's dining table, and for Qin Xiaoya to jump on it was a grave disrespect that warranted severe punishment.
Qin Xiaoya paid him no mind and approached the suit of armor belonging to the Undead Knight. To be honest, its material was rather poor compared to the suit Dawson had worn earlier, and it was far too worn out—the metal plates were already rotting away.
Gathering her spiritual energy in her hand, she formed a spiritual cyclone and struck the armor without hesitation. It shattered into pieces.
Dawson stood dumbfounded, his eyes nearly popping out.
"Oh no! This has nothing to do with me! Please forgive me!" Dawson knelt in terror, repeatedly bowing in apology. He had never expected Qin Xiaoya to be so direct; she didn't even need him to summon her. How dare she break the sacred armor of the Undead Knight? This armor was a vessel for him; once it was damaged, the Undead Knight would surely be enraged.
Qin Xiaoya appeared unfazed as she looked at the scattered fragments of armor with a relaxed expression. Her intention was to provoke the Undead Knight into rising from his grave.
Suddenly, a thunderous roar echoed from below, shaking the entire underground tomb as if it were swaying. The altar beneath Qin Xiaoya trembled violently.
She quickly leaped back to Jiang Chen's side.
Dawson knelt on the ground, his face paling in fear at this sight. If the Undead Knight became furious, he might not survive either; all because of that damned woman Qin Xiaoya who had directly shattered his armor.
The altar cracked due to the violent tremors, revealing dark soil beneath it. A coffin suddenly shot up from within and stood upright on the ground.
Western coffins differ greatly from Huaxia coffins; they resembled rectangular wooden boxes adorned with ancient carvings and symbols.
Once the coffin emerged, the ground's shaking ceased, leaving only it standing ominously as dark red Sha Qi seeped through its cracks, creating an oppressive atmosphere filled with dread.
Dawson was truly terrified, repeatedly calling out to the Undead Knight, begging for forgiveness. After living for so many years, he had never encountered such a situation. The Undead Knight had been resting underground for centuries, and now, the coffin had flown open. One could only imagine how furious the Undead Knight must be at this moment.
“Gurgle, gurgle...” A strange sound emerged from within the coffin, as if someone was struggling to breathe and swallow.
Upon hearing this sound, Dawson was rendered speechless. In the silent Underground Palace, only the eerie noise from the coffin remained, scratching at his heart like a claw.
Of course, this sound only troubled Dawson; Qin Xiaoya and Jiang Chen merely watched as if it were a performance.
“Bang!”
Suddenly, the coffin lid was forcefully pushed open, and dark mist surged out like a flood. As the mist gradually dispersed, the scene inside the coffin was revealed.
Curiously peering in, Qin Xiaoya saw that the coffin was filled with a thick black liquid that resembled foul sewage. A skeleton lay submerged in this black liquid.
Dawson was so frightened that he crawled on the ground, trembling uncontrollably. Yet his curiosity compelled him to sneak a glance. The Undead Knight had rested here for hundreds of years, and Dawson had never seen its appearance before. With an opportunity at hand, how could he suppress his curiosity?
“So this is the Undead Knight?” Qin Xiaoya spoke up, breaking the silence.
Dawson was too scared to respond.
The skeleton seemed to be sleeping in the black water. Upon hearing Qin Xiaoya's voice, it stirred slightly and then emerged from the thick liquid. The lighting in this place was dim, and it wasn't until the skeleton fully stepped out of the coffin that its appearance became clear.
Perhaps it shouldn't be called a skeleton anymore; it was covered in thick black liquid that looked like rotting flesh.
The skeleton's eyes were not hollow but contained two clumps of dark, fleshy matter inside them, resembling half-rotted eyeballs. Notably, its heart area still throbbed; it was essentially a completely decayed corpse—similar to the Wet Corpse from Huaxia legends but even more disgusting and terrifying.
“How repulsive,” Qin Xiaoya said with a frown, feeling nauseated.
“You'll encounter even more disgusting things in the future; it's good to get used to it now. Come on, Qin Xiaoya,” Jiang Chen said with a smile.
Although Qin Xiaoya internally rejected the idea, she could only nod slightly. At worst, she would keep her distance; if she got any of that black liquid on her, she would probably be unable to eat for days.
