"He's really a clueless guy. Miss Yang is extremely weak right now; it's a miracle she can even sit up. If she wants to go shopping, she'll need at least a month to recover," Master Hong scoffed, suddenly finding Jiang Chen somewhat endearing in his foolishness.
However, this remark stirred excitement in Yang Yuxin's parents.
"Uncle Yang, you all should step outside for a bit. The young master prefers not to have so many people watching while he helps," Qin Xiaoya suggested.
"How long will it take?" Yang Yuxin's father asked.
"About fifteen minutes," Jiang Chen replied.
"Alright then, young man, if you can restore my daughter to her normal self in fifteen minutes, I will agree to any request you have," Yang Yuxin's father declared.
Jiang Chen smiled but remained silent.
"Qin Xiaoya, is this really reliable?" Yang Yuxin's mother, having stopped crying, asked nervously.
"Auntie, don't worry. In fifteen minutes, I'll give you a healthy and lively daughter," Qin Xiaoya assured confidently.
Although Yang Yuxin's parents were still somewhat anxious, they ultimately agreed. They didn't trust Jiang Chen; they trusted Qin Xiaoya. Even if it didn't work out, it would only take fifteen minutes. Besides, Qin Xiaoya had kindly brought someone to help; they had to let him try.
Master Hong's expression darkened as he looked on with disdain. He certainly didn't believe Jiang Chen had any real ability and dismissed it as mere child's play.
"You think you can save Miss Yang? I won't stop you, but she's extremely weak right now; you'd better be careful." After warning Jiang Chen, Master Hong turned his gaze to Qin Xiaoya's father.
"President Yang, allowing this young man to try is understandable, but if anything happens to your daughter, don't say I didn't warn you."
"Yang Yuxin will be fine; you don't need to worry," Qin Xiaoya retorted directly.
"That's even better. Hmph." Master Hong snorted and then turned to leave the room for the living room.
One by one, the others exited the bedroom until finally, Qin Xiaoya closed the door behind them.
"Honey, do you think this young man that Qin Xiaoya brought really can save Yang Yuxin?" Yang Yuxin's mother asked anxiously as she wrung her hands together.
"He won't harm Yang Yuxin. Let him give it a try; what harm could it do?" Yang Yuxin's father said thoughtfully, a glimmer of hope appearing in his eyes.
Although Jiang Chen's earlier claims seemed exaggerated, if the young man truly had skills, a little embellishment wouldn't matter as long as it could alleviate their daughter's suffering.
In the bedroom, Jiang Chen approached the bed and looked at Yang Yuxin.
A few years ago at that entertainment industry party, Yang Yuxin was stunningly beautiful and graceful. Now, however, she was gaunt and haggard, devoid of her former charm.
Yang Yuxin was also looking at Jiang Chen, feeling he looked somewhat familiar but unable to place him. After all, they had only met briefly a few years ago when she thought Jiang Chen was Qin Xiaoya's boyfriend. But Qin Xiaoya had clarified that he wasn't and never explained their relationship. Over time, Yang Yuxin had forgotten about it altogether.
"Have I met your friend before, Qin Xiaoya?" Yang Yuxin said weakly.
"More than two years ago, your family brought you back from the United States for a blind date, and you met at a party," Qin Xiaoya replied.
"Oh, I remember now. Qin Xiaoya, at that party, you really showed your prowess and even injured someone," Yang Yuxin recalled, her face flushing from the sudden rush of memories.
"Let's not talk about that now. Once you're better, we can chat slowly," Qin Xiaoya quickly reassured her.
Although Yang Yuxin was filled with questions, she was too weak to speak and could only lie quietly.
While others could only see Yang Yuxin's frailty, Jiang Chen could perceive her inner turmoil. The way she had become was not due to illness but rather the influence of a malevolent spirit. This spirit clung to her, tormenting her in dreams, weakening her before siphoning off her Blood Qi.
A normal person's Blood Qi was something this minor malevolence dared not directly absorb. In this world, many vengeful spirits existed, but few people were harmed by them because human Blood Qi—also known as internal fire—was strong enough to repel even small evil spirits. Especially in modern cities with millions of people, the collective vitality was like a blazing furnace; no spirit would dare approach such a source of heat.
Only when a person was weak could they easily fall prey to an evil spirit's invasion.
Jiang Chen reached out and grasped above Yang Yuxin's head as if seizing something by the throat. Before it could cry out, a flash of fire erupted, and black smoke billowed as the entity was incinerated.
The minor malevolence plaguing Yang Yuxin was a type of nightmare demon. To Jiang Chen, it seemed trivial, but for an ordinary person on Earth, it was no easy foe.
Not wanting to press Yang Yuxin about how she had attracted this minor malevolence, Jiang Chen took out a Lingqi Pill and instructed Qin Xiaoya to give it to Yang Yuxin. He then infused her body with Spiritual Energy and a small amount of life force to help her recover quickly.
Yang Yuxin's complexion visibly improved at an astonishing rate. If Master Hong and his companions had been watching, they would have been utterly amazed; such mystical techniques were only seen in mythological dramas.
