With a backpack full of spoils, Zhang Hui stood on the balcony, filled with dreams of a bright future, ready to climb down the rope. However, his breath caught in his throat at the sight before him—the rope that should have been hanging outside the balcony was nowhere to be found! 0

“Damn it!” Zhang Hui couldn't help but curse aloud. Just as he entertained an unrealistic thought, trouble struck, leaving him feeling somewhat uneasy. He looked up at the rooftop, where the fierce wind tossed the rope back and forth, making it completely out of reach. “The heavens love to play tricks on those with ill intentions…” Zhang Hui muttered to himself, then steadied his thoughts. “Anyway, there’s no one home. I can’t go out through the window, but I can use the front door. Given that the homeowner left the windows open and money in an unlocked drawer, they probably don’t have a habit of locking the door when they leave.” 0

Zhang Hui stepped toward the front door, planning to retrieve the rope from the rooftop later for future use. But when he grasped the doorknob and pulled hard, the door wouldn’t budge—it was locked from the outside! 0

Now he was truly trapped inside. 0

Meanwhile, it was deep into the night, and Lin Li sat in front of her computer, frowning at the dense information on the screen. She chewed on her pen, scribbling and crossing out notes on paper until she finally set it down and pulled out her phone to dial a number. 0

“This is Mr. Cang. Press 1 to chat with me, press 2 to schedule a date…” A middle-aged man’s exaggerated and teasing voice came through the line. 0

“It’s me.” Lin Li interrupted him directly, her voice weary. “I need help with a password.” 0

“Xiao Li Li hasn’t called me in ages; now you call just when you need something? I’m so hurt. Alright, since you’re so pretty, I’ll help you out. Send me the password via email.” 0

Lin Li was already accustomed to his teasing tone and explained, “No need to send it; this one is particularly simple—just four letters: C, O, S, E.” 0

There was a moment of silence on the other end. “Come on, that’s way too short! The old rules apply—no intel means I can’t help you!” 0

Indeed, passwords were based on mutual understanding between sender and receiver; the decoder needed some knowledge of its content to decipher it. Lin Li admitted, “What I can reveal is that there’s new progress in the Yushan Villa case. More than half of the deceased have been identified by their families, while the remaining two unclaimed bodies have become key subjects of investigation. Additionally, it has been confirmed that others were present at the crime scene besides the deceased.” 0

The so-called Yushan Villa incident was a murder case that occurred a few days ago in a small villa rented out in Yushan, where none of the five people inside survived. As per protocol, police had sealed off most information; however, some individuals could quickly obtain the latest intel—Lin Li was one of them. 0

"Is there someone who killed and then fled in fear of punishment? It's not a no-survivors scenario; what a waste of a perfectly good backdrop at the Snowstorm Villa," the man on the other end of the phone lamented. 0

"That shouldn't be the case. As for the reasons, they are confidential. Right now, I'm responsible for one of the victims and have uncovered some interesting details that I can share," Lin Li said, focusing on her computer screen. She quietly read aloud some of the information she could disclose. "The victim is a female nurse from the Third Municipal Hospital, unmarried, has a boyfriend, and her hobby is solving mysteries." She paused for a moment. "Does that ring any bells?" 0

"A nurse who enjoys solving mysteries? Is it Shiri Leffmi from Nisio Isin's 'Zaregoto' series? She played detective twice," the man blurted out, mentioning his favorite character. 0

"Not her. Do you remember the complicated medical dispute that occurred at the Third Municipal Hospital over two months ago? During my investigation, I found out that this victim was directly involved in that incident, which makes me suspect that her murder is related to that medical dispute. She was beautiful, cheerful, and easygoing, which made her well-liked among her peers and elders; she hardly had any enemies. Aside from that medical accident, I can't think of any motive for her murder," Lin Li expressed her views with a hint of indignation; it was such a shame for such a wonderful girl to die so inexplicably. 0

"I don't believe that a killer who has taken five lives needs any reason to kill. Take Zerozaki Izei, for example," the man replied skeptically. 0

This city was filled with too many coincidences and possibilities; those who truly knew it wouldn't take any connected events as inevitable. Even if Xu Yanran was directly involved in the medical incident, it didn't necessarily mean there was a direct link to her death. 0
