Even Jiang Jiewen's mother furrowed her brows, clearly unimpressed by Jiang Chen, the "heartless man."
"I think we can ask Jiang Chen for help. He's really capable and can definitely handle those two Martial Artists," Jiang Jiewen declared with determination, as if she had made a significant decision.
After speaking, she quickly glanced at her parents' expressions. They were naturally shocked, filled with deep skepticism, and even a hint of helplessness directed towards her.
"Jiang Jiewen, you are usually a rational person. Why do you lose your common sense when it comes to Jiang Chen? I honestly don't see any strength or background in him. To be frank, I used a bit of privilege to investigate Jiang Chen's family background. His mother's family is somewhat respectable in Qingcheng, but his mother passed away right after he was born, and then his father died as well. I've heard that his grandfather's family doesn't get along with his father, so they don't treat Jiang Chen well either."
"Jiang Jiewen, your father has some things he doesn’t want to make clear. I hope you find someone truly outstanding in every aspect—at least in education, appearance, demeanor, and temperament—someone closer to your level. To be honest, I haven't seen a single merit in that kid Jiang Chen," Jiang Shi said seriously, his tone earnest and filled with a father's deep expectations.
"Dad, how can you casually investigate Jiang Chen's family background?" Jiang Jiewen protested unhappily.
"Isn't it for your sake?"
"Dad, do you think your daughter is that superficial? I don't care about Jiang Chen's family background; what matters to me is who he is as a person. I liked him back in Junior High when he was doing well academically and was an excellent individual. He just went to Nangang for high school and became a bit obscure. In fact, he’s very capable; the more I get to know him now, the more I realize how exceptional he is. He’s also a Martial Artist," Jiang Jiewen argued loudly.
"What did you just say? The last part?" Jiang Shi asked, his eyes wide with disbelief.
"I said he’s also a Martial Artist and quite skilled. The underground forces in Qingcheng—Brother Bao and Lu Zhengjian—are currently in awe of Jiang Chen because of his abilities; even the leaders of the underground forces know about him." Tonight, Jiang Jiewen decided to lay it all out; her parents needed to understand more about Jiang Chen so they wouldn’t nag her endlessly in the future.
However, she knew that her "empty words" would hardly convince her parents. But that didn’t matter; perhaps tomorrow night would change her father's mind.
"Jiang Jiewen, being a Martial Artist isn’t just about knowing some martial arts or fighting techniques," Jiang Shi stated.
"Dad, I know! A friend of mine sent me a video of Jiang Chen; he's really impressive—definitely stronger than those two Martial Artists you mentioned earlier," Jiang Jiewen insisted confidently.
"You really trust him unconditionally. But even if he is a Martial Artist, this matter has already been taken care of by Li Fu Xiu; we don’t need an outsider like him anymore. It’s getting late; let’s go to bed," Jiang Shi replied dismissively. His tone and attitude revealed that he still didn’t think much of Jiang Chen.
As for what his daughter said—a person blinded by love rarely speaks with credibility—Jiang Shi even considered taking her to see a psychologist.
Jiang Jiewen understood her father's thoughts but didn’t feel anxious about explaining further. After exchanging goodnights, she returned to her room and closed the door securely. She sent a message to Jiang Chen to explain the situation.
