"Where did you get this talisman? We should all go and get one," Li Fuxiu joked, lightening the tense atmosphere. The group quickly left and drove back to the county town.
In the car, Jiang Shi reported what he had heard to Li Fuxiu. After pondering for a moment, Li Fuxiu said, "No matter what that dark spirit is, we must stop them tomorrow night."
"I'll start making arrangements and mobilize all the police forces in the county," Jiang Shi replied. Although there were only two of them, they were far more difficult to handle than an A-level wanted criminal. With twenty men wiped out tonight, it would take even more police strength to successfully subdue those two.
"We don't need too many officers. I'll bring someone in tomorrow. Since we know they are Martial Artists, we'll use Martial Artists to deal with them," Li Fuxiu said solemnly.
"Do we have Martial Artists among the police?" Jiang Shi asked curiously. Given his limited rank, he had encountered few secrets and knew little about martial arts.
"Of course we do, but the strength of those two tonight is clearly beyond what an ordinary Martial Artist can handle. Therefore, we need to invite someone stronger. Jiang Shi, matters concerning martial arts are confidential; please do not leak any information," Li Fuxiu cautioned.
"Understood. I'll have all the comrades involved in the operation sign a confidentiality agreement tomorrow," Jiang Shi said, his expression becoming serious as he suddenly felt like a frog at the bottom of a well in the vast world.
An hour later, Jiang Shi and his team returned to the county town while the two Martial Artists descended from Longyan Pond.
"Hey, where are they?" The two men exchanged strange glances upon realizing that Jiang Shi and his team were missing.
"Our incense should make ordinary people faint for at least six hours; how could they recover in just one hour? Could it be because of the rain?" The tall, thin man speculated.
"Forget it, Senior Brother. Let's go; there's no need to worry about these people," said the slightly plump man. Although he found it odd, he didn't think much of it since ordinary people—even if they were police—weren't worth their attention.
"Let's go."
The two black-clad figures vanished into the night as the drizzle continued to fall, leaving the world shrouded in desolation and chill.
Back in the county town, Jiang Shi and his team did not hold another meeting but returned home instead. Li Fuxiu and several others from the province went to stay at a guesthouse.
At Jiang Shi's home, Jiang Jiewen and her mother anxiously awaited his return. The arrival of officials from the provincial office indicated the seriousness of the case, and with such late-night operations, their family was naturally worried.
"Knock, knock, knock."
Jiang Jiewen hurried to open the door and sighed in relief upon seeing her father return.
"Dad, you're soaked! Change your clothes quickly; don't catch a cold," she said with concern.
"I'll take a shower first," Jiang Shi replied, his expression still heavy.
After showering, he found Jiang Jiewen had prepared hot tea in the living room. Sitting on the sofa, he took a sip and sincerely remarked, "It's good to be home."
Noticing her father's troubled demeanor, Jiang Jiewen exchanged glances with her mother. Her mother couldn't help but ask, "What's wrong? Is there no progress on the case?"
"We'll know by tomorrow night. But I can say this case is the most shocking one I've encountered in thirty years," Jiang Shi replied, his tone filled with fear, astonishment, and a hint of excitement—his emotions were quite complex.
